Has Riot said anything about the idea that more players are placing lower this year?

I've noticed that alot of my friends and other people (from the masses of threads) have placed lower this season than i've ever seen and I've been playing since season 1. I'd rather not speculate on what are the probable causes for this. Has riot made any response to the community on this topic?

Its the same as last year. I just think people like to pretend that every year is the worse yet. Plus half the boards are people complaining about going from like b1-b5.

Because most people are Bronze/Silver. I also think most people don't realize how low their MMR is lol. I haven't played ranked since the beginning of last season, so I expect to land super low this season just due to MMR decay.
