I love the risk Riot took with the Dark Star gamemode
its a very refreshing mode and I love it! I hope Riot will continue to keep doing things like this.

How is this a risk?
People can only play as Thresh instead of hundreds of other champs, 3v3, a heavily small map, etc.
They took a risk by not doing something "safe" like... all random Summoner's Rift or 1v1 on Howling Abyss.
exactly! They could face accusations of favoring thresh, having it be a huge fail, etc.

Noat at all.
I'm a rather whiny and salty person when my favorite characters don't get the lightspot, but this mode is really fun and entertaining, plus it would work only with thresh so I see no problem in about favoritism (if you can call it that).
all random summoners rift was dumb and pointless.
That's not a risk though, that was the absolute least risky option they could have taken, its the safest gamemode ever because everything comes down to how well people play since there are no items and only one champion there's no way for there to be an imbalance in the game mode between what one person builds or plays and another does.
It's risky because they created something that took resources, is very limited and strays far away from the actual concept of the game, only for it to be a temporary game mode that could be a hit or miss. Not because it's entirely skill dependent (how could this possibly be the reason the game mode is a risk?)
It isn't a risk because there's only two ways for people to complain about it, either they don't like the gameplay itself or they aren't good at it, unlike other game modes where people can get addled by X champ being super strong there or an item being op.
they don't like the gameplay itself
Thats the risk bud
That's a risk with any new gameplay mode though, its not specific to this one.
You're right
Agreed. Although now I'm afraid if I buy Thresh and play him, I'll be disappointed in playing him in a regular game.
Won't be. Landing that oh so PERFECT hook for your competent ADC is super satisfying.
Now I want a Malphite mode where you have to knock them out of the ring like Smash Bros, and ult/flash are on 10 second cooldowns.
Yeah it was a refreshing change of pace. Very mario party -esque. I hope they do more abstract game modes like this in the future.
I would gladly get more mediocre gamemodes like ARSR if it means we get more gamemodes like Dark Star. This is so much fun!
I don't think it was risky at all... downvoted
You kids have no idea what risk is do you
Loving it so far.
Also because I have 0 experience in playing Thresh.
I would rather have Assassin mode be some kind of bullet hell dodging simulator, rather than a 5v5 bloodbath. Like, out of Ekko, Kat, Kassadin, and Zed, try to win a foot race while constantly being bombarded with CC skillshots
I'm finding the mode less than pleasant.
Gameplay goes like this: Oh look, I used my E, but the enemy's took priority. Oh look, I hooked them, but they still were able to hook me, despite the tag-back being in effect to stop this. Oh look, an enemy used Q mid-air, meanwhile my mid-air Q's look like they don't even fire, because the skill froze. Oh look, my enemies got the 7 scuttler kills I just swiped into the star because their E was applied even though the scuttler was falling into the star itself. (3-5 pixels away from the star.)
Oh look an unresponsive and buggy game mode if you're on a even mildly bad connection or computer. Moreso because I'm going through Time Warner and hasn't been giving good pings since Spectrum bought them out. (This is relevant because Riot made a contract that gave LoL users a more reliable connection if they're going through Time Warner, but doesn't seem to have stuck well through the buy-out. I don't know enough of the legal end to really accuse of contract neglect, but 'eh.)
I guess I'm just cranky because of some bad games, but some of this should have been vetted.
Perhaps the most unimaginative game mode of them all.
On the scale of Nemesis Draft (the worst) to URF (the best), I'd place it just above Nemesis Draft, just below Doom Bots. So, really, almost the worst game ever.
Seriously? I love that gamemode. It's really quick, 6 - 10 minutes and really fun. And not to forget, it's the most balanced gamemode that will ever exist.
Pros...
Quick: Sure Balanced: Yes
Cons...
Creative: Not especially.
Replayability: Low.
League of Legends Related: Hardly.
This gamemode could have been a flash game... it's almost something that could have been introduced as a mode you play while you wait in a queue, not a featured game mode for TWO WEEKENDS in a row.
