My thoughts on new champ select.
So, I've been seeing ALOT of complaints about new champ select. And I am honestly surprised. I thought I would give my own thoughts on it, though I feel I might be in the minority.
So, let me start off by saying this. I am a full on casual player. I rarely ever play ranked. Tb used to be most, if not all, of my league time on some days. Tb was my favorite part about the game, I had so much fun with it! That being said, after trying out new champ select. Surprisingly, I don't think I'll miss it. People complain that they can't get the role or champ they want 100% of the time like in tb, and thats true. But I see this as an advantage, allow me to tell some backstory about myself as a player.
Back in 2014, all I played was bot lane. I would only ever play adc or support, and tb helped me do that. (This was before I EVER played draft pick, so I was never one of those instalock trolls.) At some point I bought the champions bundle in the shop, which gave me alot of champs I didn't need or want. Eventually, I decided to expand. Not just for those champs, but incase I ever wanted to play ranked, I would learn the other roles beforehand. I learned to jungle, and now I can say that is my fav role to play. I went a long time in 2015 without ever playing top or mid, as I felt I wasn't ready for a solo lane. But eventually I tried it, and now bot lane, which used to be all of what I would play, are my least favorite roles.
I now encourage anybody who only plays specific roles to try them all out until your used to them. Doing so has made me have alot more fun with this game than I ever had before. If it can be like that for tb, this goes double now that tb is gone. Play more roles and eventually, you will have more fun!
Now onto the last story I have to tell.
First off, let me say this. I freaking love veigar! He's my go to pick in the mid lane. That being said, back in tb days, I would pick Veig and end up against an ad mid laner. Which kinda screws me over. XP But now, I can see the enemy teams picks. So I can still play mid when I want, but I can now actually pick veigar when he works. Now I don't have to worry about being screwed over in a lane matchup by not being able to see what I was facing.
Okay I lied, I have one more story. This one was last friday.
I was going to pick Veigar, and I was last pick, so that will help me out. But someone on the enemy team happens to pick Veigar instead, and I think to myself "crap I don't have an ad mid champ, what do I do?". But then, it hit me. Back when I bought the champions bundle on christmas of 2014, it came with kassadin. I'v had kassadin all this time but I never used him. I figured since Kass's riftstep (I refuse to call it a walk anymore) is a blink, I can hop over veigar's walls. And since I was playing against someone who's bursty, I got barrier instead of ignite. And guess what. I freaking love kassadin now! And the barrier allowed me to stomp in lane, saving me way more than once. If not for new champ select, I would have never gotten into kassadin. I had no reason or want to try him in tb, but this gave me the chance and I'm glad I took it! Plus, back in tb. I would never pick barrier or cleanse because I could end up against a laner or comp where that wouldn't be useful. Now I can pick summs and champs situationally (Like cleanse against mlaz, ww, ect. Or barrier aginst bursty champs.) and still get the role I want, most of the time!
New champ select is absolutely amazing to me. And this is coming from a guy who played tb religiously. I thought I would miss it dearly, but after trying NCS, I don't miss it at all.
All those people who hate it cuz they only play certain roles.
Play and get used to every role, and you'll have more fun with this game. Period. That comes from experience.
And for others. Everybody has opinions. So I shan't judge them whether they like or hate NCS.
But I'd love to hear your thoughts, mr or mrs whoever is reading this right now.
Thanks for taking the time to read this wall of text. Best of luck on the rift! Sincerely~A player and Riot games fanboy
