Is AP Tahm better than tank?

I mean, he does 70% AP ratio + 80-220 base damage just on his Q which is on a short-ass 6 second cooldown, less with CDR which would be pretty easy to get with Spirit Visage which would be good for his E, his W hits with a whopping 300 base damage + 60% AP AOE damage when he spits out a minion, and 20-32% + 2% per 100 AP(not sure if it sticks to 2% or if you can just build 50 for 1%, but that's what the wiki said so eh).

But, as a tank he does tons of base damages anyway, plus you could build like, a RoA or a Staff-thingy-I-forget-the-name-of(slows people with spells, 400 health, 100 AP), or heck, even a Liandry's Torment with his W and Q for major poke damage. Then there's extra things like Righteous Glory or Locket of the Iron Solari for supportive items.

No, he don't have any damage beside Q and tossing a minion. He will get blownup easily if he build AP, and won't be able to eat people with his W. You are better with a real AP.

His E is one of the most absolutely ridiculous abilities in the game, it makes him immune to both poke and burst, and it scales directly with your HP

Not immune but resistant. Tahm Kench is really good vs poke compositions because of the regen factor, and has probably around 150% health effectiveness due to E's active effect. However it is still a shield that has to be activated. He can drop his Gray Hp for damage mitigation, but it doesn't make him immune to it. That said, Tahm Kench's Teamfight presence is nonexistant if he can't tank. He's more like an assassin in that he wants to flank opponents and use positioning to get the most out of his kit. He can neutralize a target temporarily but both have drawbacks.

He will however be ungodly in compositions featuring TF and Kalista.

Tahm Kench is better off a tank support. His kit in itself is based around having the face of the mountain, down to the ratio of 3 support items and 3 self items.
