Let's talk Malzahar

Considering how easy it is to land AoE skillshots in the current tank/lockdown meta, Malz has a ridiculously long silence on his q coupled with tank killing power through w/r and high base damages on all his abilities. Since Malzahar's core identity does not revolve around his silence but his % hp void sapping power through w/r, I don't think the 3 second AoE silence is necessary on his q anymore and it is hard if not impossible to respond to it, especially in combo with a Sejuani ult or something similar. Thoughts?

Yes I think the silence is a bit unnecessary. He already has a suppress with more than 100% AP scaling and %health damage. Also, when an AP champ can build AD and still be viable, you know you have a problem. It doesn't matter if malzahar is fed or not. He has some of the best CC in the game that is useful no matter how fed (or not) he is.

The defensive mastery changes were an indirect nerf to his silence. That 10% tenacity with only 9 points in defense means he can't silence Zed for the entire duration of his ult anymore. If Riot removed his silence, he might get a "compensation buff". I can't imagine what that would be, but i get the feeling it won't be damage based on his already massive bases and ratios.

Malz is in a decent spot. There's nothing wrong with him. What's wrong with his silence? It's not like he is an assassin.
