Any tips for a new syndra player.

I have always wanted to learn syndra, I think she looks absolutely amazing in game, and every time I play against a syndra, she usually destroys my the mid lane and snowballs the game. Her skillcap is a bit insane, and I need some advice on how to properly play her. Any tips?

ALSO, side note. Which skin do you guys think is the best skin for her?Syndra

Even tho i am Bronze 5 for Life, I feel since this patch I been doing better on my Syndra.

I went AP/armor/magic resit runes. Shield/flash summoner spells. I went 12/18/0 Masteries with Thunderlords Decree, when you learn her combos its OP. I first build Frost Queens knife for ghosts, good to catch up or to flee, Full Speed Boots and enchant, she strugles with movement. Then I build Ludens Echo. After that it depends on who your fighting and team comp etc. Go all out AP for dmg. I rarely buy any defensive items because I think it holds her back.

Gameplay, just normal laning cs etc, wait for enemy to give you an opening to attack. Some enemys you need to draw out their defensive cds then go all in, or burst down once, hold back, then go in for kill with 2nd burst with ULT. Try to always use ULT with 5balls and when they are about 30% HP. Quite often they can be left with 1 or 2 hits from death and its annoying as hell.

She is extremely Squishy so try to hang in background of groups and pick your kills. Go for other squishy/low hp targets. ADC's especially.

I might be wrong on soemthings as I am only Bronze but I hope this helps a Little. I am sure some pros out there can give better advice. goodluck

Wait for her snowdown skin! When I played her LVL 3 is try for kill. Q them, wait, Q them, grab first ball, land on them, Q them, use push skill and stun them, Q them.

I would recommend watching Kaceytron's stream. She plays Syndra mid almost exclusively, so I'm sure you'll be able to learn a lot from her gameplay.

Learning to play syndra can teach you a lot about how to harass in lane appropriately. Your Q has some pretty wicked range (at lvl 1 the nerfed damage makes it a bit of a mana sink for the payoff though). Whenever you see the enemy mid going about to stop to auto attack a creep for CS, go ahead and whack em with a Q. If you're far enough away from minions, throw an auto attack in there too, then back off. For a lot of champions you should be able to do this from outside their range of retaliation. If they try to move in to do damage to you, W-W with the sphere to slow them, E to stun, Q again if it's up, and back off. Hard to lose trades that way. Anyway, the low CD high range Q gives you tons of practice in lane about harassing the opponent at the correct time. For added difficulty and greater rewards, try to time the harass so that you don't miss any CS of your own.

tip #1 don't use your abilities to harass unless you can get 60 + ap in the first 10 minutes of the game(in game purchuses with maxed out ap runes) you can then auto attack a melee minion to 25% hp grab it and drop it on the ranged group every wave for an instant 4 farm with almost no work whatsoever it practically mandatory to do this to harass to net you the dorans ring mana regen per unit slain to even stay viable as a mid laner.

tip #2 you can increase your ult damage by using her abilities to keep spheres on the field for up to 7 on max cooldown.

tip #3 Early game, auto attack the enemy laner, your a ranged champ, just throw one everytime they try to farm.

tip #4 rush item 3165 or item 3174 its your main source of multiple all ins in your laning phase as well as CDR getting both gives you 100% mana regen

tip #5 Have ult and your lane opponent is not there, wander bot lane and ult the opposing adc 90% of the time will net you a kill advantage

tip #6 dont walk into a fight unarmed, drop a Q and pick it up with your w before you even walk into a fight, you can use them prior to and have those two abilities off cooldown much sooner than if you wait until your already there, take advantage of those skill shots.Syndra is god, she can win against any lane opponent if you do it right, turst , i am the god syndra player.

The most important thing for Syndra is to learn how to lead your abilities. Aim ahead of your enemy so it lands on them, instead of behind them.

Next, learn how your ult works, and how your abilities interact with each other:

  • Your Q has a static duration before it fizzles away. W will reset the timer in a ball, and E makes it last until the end of the slide effect.

  • To land a 6 ball ult, drop a Q, and as you drop your next one, pick up your first ball and throw it. Before they fizzle, E them both, drop another ball and R immediately.

  • 5 ball ults are easier. Just W your first ball as it fizzles, drop another, and ult.

Finally, don't be afraid to build a tear into AA. It works really well if you want to play hard.

I don't particularly like any of her skins, other than Snow Day. They're all too revealing for my tastes, or just look ugly. Was going to buy Justicar until I saw Snow Day.

Good question. I bought Atlantean Syndra but hate it. Her base skin is so %%%%ing good.... they have yet to create a skin that is as good... I might buy the Snow Syndra though.

In terms of advice; I am not a Syndra player, I want to be one though... from my experience, Syndra's laning is one of the worst in the game. Your best bet is to survive laning until mid game and then try for skirmishes and/or team fights. You will lose mid 100% of the time unless your opponent is pure garbage.

However, your presence in skirmishes and team fights mid/late game will be nearly unparalleled, you just need to make it there without feeding or being severely underfarmed... remember, in lane you are worse than every other mid (Ex: Yasuo, Zed, Lux, Ekko, Talon, Ahri, Diana, Lissandra, Riven, etc.)... but once you get rolling, you can shred pretty hard. Survive early, that is my best advice as a Diamond player.

(Early game Syndra; Horrible mana costs, horrible range, horrible defensive stats, no escape mechanism, low MS, bad wave-clear, you are easily ganked, etc.)

Niyumi2 votes

So... not entirely accurate. Syndra's laning is whatever you want it to be. If you skip building a tear or other mana item, yeah, laning will be tough on you. But if you have the mana to do so, you can kill your lane opponent over and over from level 2 and on (Yasuo, LB, Kass, Zed, Diana... you can beat anyone). I've been 9/0 by mid-game lots of times, and roamed to other lanes and snowballed them (yet still lost), so Syndra isn't just a late game monster -- she just has a really high skill cap to perform well.

And Syndra has near-instant waveclear, along the lines of GP. Get a melee minion to half health or so, throw it into all the caster minions and drop a Q so that they land at the same time... boom. 100g. Eventually, you can clear everything but the cannon minion with that combo.

Syndra is much better/stronger when the opponents you face are primarily bronzies and silvers. At higher brackets, you will get shredded by harder harass, your skill-shots will be more difficult to land and enemy jungler will more aggressively camp since Syndra is immobile and has a very weak defensive mechanism. Not saying you're 100% wrong, just saying you are wrong in Plat+.

The best success I've had with Syndra has been rushing item 3285 since it boosts her waveclear and helps her avoid ganks/all-ins. But again, I am not a Syndra main.... this is simply my observation in Diamond from playing her rarely.

She wins 53% of her games in Plat+ pre-25 minutes, despite only having a 48% win rate overall.

Being highly ranked is not more important than actually knowing the champion, especially when that champion is as difficult as Syndra. I'm pretty certain the person you're saying can only win lane as Syndra because his opponents are awful is just better at her than you are.

You fail. Attempting to substantiate a point with the incredibly flawed win rate argument only demonstrates that you have nothing of substance to present.

You say this as the person whose argument earlier was "You're Silver". Regardless of the actual percentage, she has always won more games early on than she has at the later points of the game. That is not something that someone with a poor early game does.

If you can explain why Syndra wins way more games before 25 minutes than she does when games end at any point after that then I'm happy to argue it, but you're only convincing yourself of your knowledge when you can't argue beyond "lol you mentioned win rates" and "lol i'm plat".

You being Silver is valid to say , in that you don't even understand basic game mechanics (Silver/Bronze = Wild flailing around) Using the win rate argument that has been debunked time and time again only demonstrates my point that you have nothing to present.

The thing is, I don't think you know how and in what situations the win rate argument has been debunked. You just see someone you disagree with using the term and think "Yay, I don't need to think of an argument anymore", without ever putting any thought into it. Between "You said win rate, you lose" and "I am a higher rank than you", all of your posts are simply you looking for an excuse to avoid ever explaining your stances. I find it baffling that a Diamond would look at people posting "win rate means nothing" in a certain context and construe it to mean that win rate never means anything, ever. Why not take the time to wonder in what contexts win rate isn't conclusive, why it isn't conclusive in those contexts and whether or not those reasons apply to others? Because "Win rate doesn't always indicate a champion's strength" is a world away from "Win rate by game length does not indicate a champion's power curve".

I don't play ranked, by the way. I just saw you say it to someone else... who, unlike you, plays Syndra. And frankly given that she's an infamously difficult champion, I'd take the word of a Silver Syndra main over a Plat+ person who hardly plays her any day.

Champion.gg's "win rate by game length" graph is largely consistent and exactly what you'd expect for the known power curve of almost every champion. Late game champions gradually increase more in win rate as the game goes on, and the opposite is true for early game champions. Every champion whose design is "snowball the early game and win before it gets to late" wins more early than they do late on Champion.gg, so Syndra having similar stats makes me pretty confident that she fits into the early game group. She drops from 25 mins (post-Q max, which is her biggest spike), then continuously drops until 40+, when her maxed R and W finally come online. It is a completely logical curve that makes perfect sense if you know Syndra's power spikes. Ignore this post because it features the word "win rate" all you want, but I care less about you reading it than others reading it given that this thread is here to give tips to a new Syndra player. And the person who has nothing to present is... the person who's done nothing in this thread except say "Syndra is bad early, btw I hardly play her" and then tell people their contradictions are invalid because they said X thing.

Bronzies like you don't understand basic statistics; It has been demonstrated time and again that high pick rate tends to deflate win rate. Low pick rate tends to inflate win rate. There are edges cases of course and there are blatantly overpowered characters (Ex: Post rework Gangplank) which skew the numbers, but generally speaking, win rates in the cases I mentioned are not demonstrative in the way you are using them.

Basically, your argument is trash. You should be embarrassed for presenting it.

I agree that the interaction between pick rate and win rate can lead to win rate being an unreliable statistic, in a lot of cases not worth being considered. "High pick rate = low win rate & vice versa" is one of the most blatantly obvious stat interactions there are in this game.

Now that we've established that pick rate can distort win rate (and that is apparently the only reason that win rate is a terrible statistic to argue with), please tell me how the popularity of a champion affects the point of the game at which it performs best at. If you can think of something other than "Lol well if the champion is unpopular people (in Plat+) might feed horribly to them before they figure out what they do", I'll concede that my argument is trash.

But you won't.

Syndra is bad, she is grossly underpowered... the only reason her win rate is higher than average is because of her low pick rate. It's not complicated.

Justicar Syndra is the only good skin. My cheesy muramana build: First back tear. Take blue or kill people who have it as often as possible, so you can spam spheres and stack it. Your first complete item is item 3285. This gives you a mini-power spike that compensates for your second item.

This is because your second item is item 3042. If you doubt me, test it just once. It beefs up the strength of your ultimate to an obscene degree. With a six sphere ultimate, Muramana adds somewhere in the vicinity of 300-350 AP worth of damage. When they make an AP item that grants 350 AP, you can buy that instead. Don't forget to turn it on before you ult. Note: Do not upgrade tear into item 3004 until you are _very _ close to being fully stacked, because Manamune alone is useless.

General tips (in case you don't like the cheese build): -Don't bother harassing with your spheres until level 4. They don't do any damage, and you'll run out of mana. -Once you have at least a item 1058, autoattack a melee minion twice, then toss it into the casters and cast dark sphere. If you're bad at csing, you'll still usually have dark sphere up again to clear the last two melee minions for an easy 6 cs a wave and an oppressive push. -Kite. Stay in the backline. Don't go for ults on carries if it's not safe. Do not count on your E to save you. You deal obscene damage from obscene range, but the only way you can escape a bad fight is by walking away. -Don't build a fucking item 3174 .

WalkingInACircle1 votes

What I found about her is that while her ultimate is scary what she needs to be effective is getting continuous damage output from her basic spells (which are all notably AoE). Her ultimate is more of a finisher and has her shortest range. Positioning is very important on any immobile squishy and its not worth walking bluntly forward to ult someone. Moreover, her ultimate's damage effectively scales with CDR so the stat is essential on her.

I also don't think you should over think Syndra. While her abilities have some interesting interplay, spamming Q and dumping your R on people is her bread and butter. Her E does not need to land its stun to be an effective defensive move either.

I think Snowdown will be her best skin.

Penguin Eclipse1 votes

Don't look at the arrows. It's a "helpful" feature that slows you down. You can't play her effectively by looking at them because it wastes too much time. It's best to not get in the habit of depending on them.

Don't focus on getting high sphere count ults. It takes your attention off your surroundings. Eventually it will be second nature to you and you will know if you have enough on the ground to finish them off.

oh one thing from the post yesterday, Syndra is probably the best at running away while dealing damage since you can continuously drop your spells during an escape
