People missed old poppy's playstyle of backline assassination/badassery/generally not giving a fuck while strolling around oneshotting people when ahead enough.

Their complaints are valid, they didn't play any games with her BECAUSE SHE WAS INTENTIONALLY KEPT UNVIABLE.

Riot stated that if Poppy ever became popular she'd be getting nerfed to the ground as well, she was kept back from becoming popular by them on purpose.

I for one would gladly take my scarlet hammer poppy for a stroll if she wasn't dumpster tier unless ridiculously ahead.

Old poppy wasn't a healthy champion. She was full of very toxic mechanics such as her passive and ult. Her passive mostly because riot has gone on a spree of removing abilitys/passives that just do stuff in the backround, her passive is completely dependent on the champions she faces not the skill of her or her opponent. The passive can literately be useless untill she is at 2% hp against some champions and be incredibly overpowered against others that do most of their damage in short burst with 1-2 spells. You can pick mundo against her and never do full damage with your q and be much more of a burden to your team then you are helping by the simple fact that you will lose lane, she will get a lot of cs, and she can ult you for the PERFECT target. No counter play what so ever. They were unfun mechanics that most champions can not play around at all. Her ult and passive had to go that is a simple fact.

how people could like a champ who could go glass cannon with a spell that could take 50/75% of everyone's hp while having an immunity+cc immune to 4 people +being even more tanky because of passive?

She looked like the mutant child of a hobbit and a dwarf, and had a playstile like a rabbid hobo on PCP.

tbh I decided to play her when her rework was announced and got multiple Quadra kills across multiple games with multiple, highly contrasting builds. I don't know why she's being changed so much. Usually Riot keeps champion kits fairly in tact unless they're a low mobility champion like pre-rework Sion that had a lot of tools but no way to effectively use them. Current Poppy has a MS Increase on W AND a Dash on E.

Poppy probably needed a new Passive and Ultimate. Q Auto, E Charge and to a lesser degree W were iconic parts of Poppy's kit, as was the tunnel-vision element of Poppy's Ultimate.

When her rework goes to live, Riot may as well change her name to 'Generic Juggernaut #3'.

All I expected from this rework was a new model with cleaner animations & interactions, new Passive, new Ultimate and then tweaks to Q (keep it an AA reset), W (keep it a Rageblade-type ability that stacks up in combat) and E (keep it a dash with a stun on terrain). Maybe change what those abilities do, but keep their function the same.
