EDG vs Fnatic handling is ridiculous and a shame to esport.

Riot try to make it look like esport is something serious to the world but can't even handle the situation properly.

  • Didn't make both team pick the exact same champions
  • Didn't put back the game state it was prior to the bug

If something goes wrong in a any sport match, they don't reset the score board and redo the whole game. They fix the issue somehow and the game restart at the same state it was prior to said issue.

Good job Riot on this, really disappointed.

kinda smells like someone was voting for EDG to move on to semi finals xD

First, how do you plan on fixing a real sport if it has a glitch? They don't get glitches. You cannot cast Q in real life and then not ever again. The bug was game breaking. The point of the restart was it was early in the game and effective strategies.

Also, you try creating rules for the world's fastest growing sport in the world." It is not easy. They cannot make everyone happy.

"Back to a prior point about real life situations If a scoreboard or something glitches in a real life game, they don't forcefully make both teams restart. if the bug is drastic enough to make one team UNABLE to win with fair gameplay, the match is entirely canceled. If it was something as a minor issue like a referee forgot his flag in football they would stop the game for a second and get that ref his flag. In esports, its they pause it so SMALL issues (graphic bugs) can be fixed.

You remember what happens when games don't get reset after bugs? Game 5 of SKT vs FNC at MSI? Changed the entire game and made SKT win after a good early game from FNC?

And looking non-serious to the world? Really? Just having the glitch is worse than the situation around it. If somebody from ESPN was watching, do you think that they would pass off the glitch as "just something that happens," and then get pissed at how the game was reset? No, they would find Riot unprofessional in having something so game-breaking in something that they're trying to make a full sport.

I kind of agree. I mean, I just missed it, but I heard EDG was up 1 kill and 3 dragons when they ended the game. So EDG lost a mild advantage. At the same time though, 1 kill and 3 dragons is what, 1k gold lead? Pro teams can easily come back from a 1k deficit. Fnatic also would've won the series even if that game didn't restart.

Listen to the whole story. The casters said they would pick new champions because "strategies and gameplay" has already been shown, so if it was the exact same champions, both teams would know what the other wanted to do. Also, in other sports, all things can be fixed one way or another. Its technology, sometimes there are unfixable things.

But League of Legends isn't a sport, it's an e-sport, it's different. Unlike a sports match where the only factors are the players, their conditions and the spectators, League of Legends has many factors. For example, jungle spawn timers, baron and dragon timers, minion waves, items, etc. Besides, issues in regular sports can be fixed by looking at the replay and judging a conclusion based on what the referees see. Issues in League of Legends (commonly bugs) usually cannot be fixed at that specific moment in time.

Although, I do agree that in this situation, something else could've been done. Since the bug was that Reignover couldn't cast Q on Gragas until he died, I think Riot should've told every single player in both teams except Reignover to stay still while Reignover gets executed by a tower and then returned to his original position and they could resume the game from there. But. there's still the problem of minion waves, the minion waves won't stop, they'll just push down towers.

In the case of a restart, they usually have an agreement between the two teams to do so.

Disagree with both your points.

You are also wrong about what happens if this happens in any other sport match. In many sports, they just redo the game the next day if it is halted due to unavoidable circumstances. Given that this problem was caused due to in-game bug rather than an external interruption, it is still a software. No software is perfect. Riot themselves admitted that it's a one-in-a-million very-rare bug.

Riot cannot make them pick the same champions because the problem was caused by 1 of the champions of the previous game. Reignover picking that champ again means it was a player choice rather than Riot's choice

Too bad you knew this beforehand as it was outlined as one of thier procedures in the rules of worlds post they made.

Holy crap.

It's a bug that rarely happens. Edg was losing hence why they banned morde next game. Trinkets had a bug last week, I guess we should disable it also? The game itself crashed, should we just disable the game? Hell there is a bug with turrets, should we disable that too?

There was a risk that Gragas bug could happen again, but it hasn't happen in over 5 months and it always got fixed in game. This is the only time they had to restart the game. Get over it FNC destroyed even if they gave the win to edg

They were losing anyway even with a bugged Gragas.
