Favourable meta vs experience with the champion

A few weeks ago, a player banned my pick intention because "it's weak in this meta". This got me thinking: even if that was true, why did you take away my pick anyway?

It might not be meta, but it's a pick that I know and that I am confident with. By banning it you are forcing me to play a champion I'm not as confident with. And these backup picks might too be weak in this meta; I might be forced to first time a champion in order to have a meta pick.

Are you sure that it's better? Is playing for the first time a champion who is strong in this meta better than playing a champion that I know well but is weak in this meta?

Playing with a champion you know will always be better. I'd rather hav someone pick a champ that they've played for 300 games than hav someone grab the new hotness and feed because they dont know what the champion does.

It depends on what that pick is, some nonmeta picks can be viable due to the skill of the user, but alot of the time a non meta pick will be at the mercy of the skill level of the people who pick meta champions against them.

But in this thread I'm not comparing different enemies: I'm talking about my own pick.

Let's say the enemy happens to be a one-trick-main of a champion who is meta: is it better that I pick my best champion (who is not currently meta) or that I first time a meta champion?

I may not even know what I'm going to be up against because I'm first pick: is it better that I pick my best champion (who is not currently meta) or that I first time a meta champion?

If you don't know what you are playing against then sure pick whatever you are comfortable with.
