Pretty much that. Mages want to be able to stack craptons of AP and armor like they think it would be fair to remove the weakness they were designed with.

Naw, just to survive longer than a spell rotation in a duel while your burst does only about 60% of an ADC's health (not that you are fighting one but it's how much you do comparatively).
