Why Are Farsight Wards Untargetable?

Vekkna··1 votes·1,303 views

Why can't they be targeted by teleport or by champs that ward-hop?

Ward-hoppers were just straight-up nerfed. Farsight trinket is the only way for a laner to get decent vision coverage, and for some reason it's the only ward that can't be targeted by allies. Why?

EDIT: removed saltiness about Lee Sin to keep posts on topic.

because you could throw a ward on their red from your lane. Then teleport to it. Not that this interaction is innately flawed, but it has no counter play.

and its not just on red buff, its anywhere...I was just giving an example.

That problem could be solved by making the ward destructible during TP channel. All the same, I don't see how that has less counterplay than ultis on TF, Rek, Panth, etc. when the cooldown is 3-4x longer.

they actually pay for it by not having any other ult. Imagine for a moment, ziggs places a ward in your jungle from mid lane, he then goes b, and so does the top laner. They both tp to the ward that he didn't even have to leave lane for and suddenly you have a garen AND ziggs jumping on you from nowhere when you had no idea that the ward was even placed.

other wards have to be manually placed so if you are paying attention you know when they get placed and where they are.

I agree, that would suck. But when you're talking about actual counterplay you get the same amount of counterplay from a Panth falling on you at red, Shen porting to you from top, and Ziggs/GP dropping an ulti on the red buff. And they can do it 3-4 times as frequently as a champ can use teleport.

I don't think it's inherently unfair that TP can't be used on them, I just don't think counterplay is the reason for it when there are other circumstances that achieve the same result with less counterplay that are already in the game.

the thing is those champions are picked specifically for that. They are lacking in other parts of their kit because of it. Could you imagine a vi, who just respawned tping in behind you just to unload her kit into you. This is especially true when you had no idea there was a ward that far up behind you.

TP is also picked specifically for that, the 3.5 second channel is globally visible, and it's on a 5 minute cooldown. Placement of the farsight ward has a massive visual effect and is a visible ward. The same thing can happen with a stealth ward, but you're less likely to discover and kill a stealth ward. And if a jungler is taking TP, they're not taking flash.

It seems like a lot of trade-offs that end up pretty fair. Sounds a lot more fair than somebody popping out of stealth and blowing you up with no warning whatsoever. 3.5 seconds is an extremely long time to react to a counter-jungle in this game. In fact, it wouldn't take much longer than that to simply walk to the enemy red from mid lane, and you're likely to get longer and more reliable notice from a teleport.

I'm not saying that I like or dislike the idea of the interaction. I just know that there are scenarios that this can be easily abused. can those scenarios be balanced? sure, but they my not have the clarity they want.

I could see teleport being an issue...wardhopping tho, I don't have an issue with.

I concur a little. Ward hopping in standard queue wouldn't be a problem. But in pre-arranged queue's it could be a huge deal.

Kat; I need help, someone ward dragon. Jinx: sure thing... *plop... Kat: did you miss any farm? Jinx: nope...

Ah didn't think about it that way. Maybe if you can ward hop to your own farsight wards but not those places by allies?

I could see that being a decent interaction, but then the question becomes which are yours and which aren't...when you know you placed one in dragon pit and there is one there is it yours or did someone else place it...no way to know without trying to jump to it, and how sad it would be to find out it wasn't yours.

I'm not arguing against it. I just can see the loopholes and problems with clarity that would come of it.

Make it color the ward differently for those that are your own? I actually think it's a good move to make them untargetable, but it would be easy to identify which are your wards

this has been proposed regardless of which type of ward it is. People want their wards to be different from their allies, be it from a sight stone, a trailblazer or whatever.

The flipside of that is my experience in solo queue:

Kat: We have no vision, top and jg upgrade to blues Everyone Else: crickets

So Kat picks up blue to get vision in our jungle and then has no access to the champ's only survival mechanic.

I don't think that item was made JUST for Lee Sin...

I mean, I'm sure there's Lee SIn players out there who used to build Stalker's Blade, and can't anymore.

Vekkna1 votes

If it wasn't made just for Lee Sin, it was made without any respect for the fact that it disproportionately benefits Lee compared to every other champ in the game.

they were simply trying to replace the counterjungling one with something useful.

It was made because everyone who saw Poachers Knife said "that's useless, it'd be better if it was a mini sightstone instead."
