To all your aspiring Lee Sin mains trying to climb the ladder.

Rant warning. This is a rant from a salty butthurt player. There's so much salt in this post that it's going to choke an elephant. So much butthurt in this post that guys in the prison would feel guilty. So, just a word of warning. Butthurt and salt ahead.

You've been warned.

Look I get it. Lee Sin deals tons of damage. He really does. Between his Q having execution damage and his ultimate and all this other moves giving him all these cool buffs and shields and all that junk. And he's pretty fun when you know how to use him right.

But I'm going to give you folks trying to farm him out in the ladder some advice.

It doesn't matter if you're going 14/0. It doesn't matter if you can 100-0 pretty much anyone mid game. If the enemy team does not surrender and the game goes into late game and you built full damage glass cannon Youmu's, Warrior, Black Cleaver, Maw, Ravenous Hydra? You're going to lose. Hard. And do you know why you're going to lose?

Late game is the great equalizer. When everyone is full build, your KDA goes right out the window. Any lead you had is pretty much reset. And what you built during the early and mid will determine how your late game plays out. So while you can probably kill one squishy target, they can probably kill you before you pull it off. Meaning that if you land that Q on the ADC and ult him towards your team, you're most likely going to die in a single second.... or die before your kick lands.

Just look on pro builds. The most common builds have Dead Man's Plate, Merc Treads and Maw. Most of the builds are very bruiser heavy. They get in, soak up damage whilst dishing out just enough to get a pick and then get out to their teammates. And you can't do that whilst going full damage.

So it's really really annoying when we're fighting during late game and our Lee Sin is getting their teeth kicked in with every single fight, because they think they can grab a pick... then will continue to blame their teammates for their failed plays and wondering why no one is backing them up.... Because they died before their teammates could freaking reach them. Ugh....

Rant over. I'm ready for the downvotes.

To be fair, your post is informative and, even though you called it a rant, I don't think you insulted anyone - unlike a lot of people in game. I don't see why you'd get downvoted.

I down vote anyone who says "I know I'll get downvoted but..."

Well I will follow this logic, and see that you said that specific line in your own comment.

I only do that to people who describe a topic that is understandable by the majority of the community, but yet still say that for some reason. :^)

I'm a Lee main is S3 and i build usually full tank. This post is very generalized and kinda full of assumptions. Just cause some of us are like that doesn't mean all of us are :(

AD Lee is still the optimal way to play him outside of high elo. Tank Lee simply doesn't carry the same way AD Lee does and if you're low elo, you probably need to carry rather than be just a kick-bot.

Granted, you shouldn't be playing Lee in low elo regardless. There are far easier champs that stand a far better chance of carrying down there. Khazix, for example.

It's more like this, if you are a good lee sin player, than late game shoulden't happen, you should be forcing objectives and shot calling so the game is over by 25/35.

Lee Sin mains need to realize that you are on a clock, a race against time, and once that clock hits 35, consider yourself useless, unless you know how to do the god tier pick plays.

Bonus rant:

I hate how lee can keep:

  • good base damage
  • good ratios
  • exacution damage
  • lifesteal AND spellvamp
  • shield
  • dashes
  • super short CD hard-CC ultimate

And on top of that getting buffs for no fucking reason.

But champions who have lil playerbase (like Swain/Karthus) are getting nerfs for no apparent reason.

Ah that sweet Lee-bias since 2012 <3

Lee Sin isn't OP man. His trash late game more than makes up for his strong early game, which is very dependent on hitting a thin skillshot. The buff he got recently was not gamebreaking, it was more to keep him healthier in the jungle. Lee got many nerfs since his release.

just looking at champion.gg, the build at high elo seems to be item 1408 item 1001 item 3071 item 3742 item 3156 item 3026

seems like a mostly damage oriented build with some mixed defenses. I.E. not a build to "deal just enough damage" but rather, to deal as much damage as possible and "to be just tanky enough to survive for your escapes to come up again".

TheHappyReaperz2 votes

The only real damage items there are Skirmishers and Maw. GA, Deadman's and BC are all bruiser/tank items.

TwinkiePro2 votes

Black cleaver gives 50 AD, plus the 60+60 from the other 2 AD items. ad the 20 and 10 cdr and you get around 276 ad at 18 without runes.

Yeah, sure, BC gives hp, and is definitely a bruiser item, but you can't not call it a damage item when it can easily compete with maw.

I am sorry you make it sound like this build does no damage. [zombie-brand-facepalm]

+9001 for the truth. This from a 100k mastery 7 Lee that even sees this happen in my own games. Just gotta learn to funnel kills rather than take them...

Divewing2 votes

Another tip from someone who farms lees so easily; stop trying so hard. Seriously. I have scored so many kills because Lee players just CANNOT resist trying to show off, mostly from them taking Qs I let them land on me while I am under tower

Plasm Wraith2 votes

And aspiring Lee players, it's R into flash behind the enemy. You can do the reverse but it's much more smooth to kick into flash.

NvestmentPlanker2 votes

As a Lee Sin main I never build full damage because of your reasoning but also because when late game does come around, I focus more on using my ultimate for peeling my carries and less on playmaking unless I see the perfect opportunity for a pick. My build is usually AD jg item and then Black Cleaver with the rest of my build being tank items. If they have high AP burst and I see myself getting targeted I will throw a Maw in there for a last item. Is full damage Lee Sin fun? You bet your ass is considering his dumbass scaling on his ultimate where you can get over 1300 damage on a point and click knockback that has a 36 second CD at lvl 16 with max CDR. It isn't viable though. His damage is so reliant on landing Q whether it be before or after R it isn't even funny. So if you build all that damage just to miss a crucial Q then it's all for nothing. You build bruiser/tank for any other reason you build bruiser or tank on a champion. To reduce risk and allow a wider gap for error without being punished.

That is actually good to know. Now all of my posts are going to be spammed with those lol.

The thing is that even if lee bought tank items he is still hideously trash.

TwinkiePro1 votes

Depends almost entirely on the player, although tank lee is actually bad simply because he needs AD items to do damage. Other wise, you are literally banking on getting good kicks off and contribute little else to the team.

As Lee, I have had very few games where I have played badly. Generally, I get a Solid lead and power out the game through brute force, and on occasion i go even and play protect the carry.

Lee is not a bad champ, it just takes a player who knows what they are doing at LEAST 50% of the time. Usually you get someone who ranks around 20%.

Yeah. Possibly the most picked champion ever in competitive play is trash. Hit that one right on the head.

Wow you're bad

MagikarpIsBoss2 votes

Please explain why someone is bad before just saying that they are bad. It is probably the reason why you have -9 lmao.

Neonchan1 votes

Perhaps you should figure out why the enemy team is reaching 6 items when they are crushed by your jungler early/mid game. This shouldn't happen and definetly shouldn't happen frequently.

Just win the game instead of durdling around

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

lee sucks late game. unless. you go tank and make picks. always go for warrior. and maw at most. but then go tank. in low elo. doesn't matter.

Tl;DR

Just don't
