People give Riot a lot of shit. I think they've done a lot of good but could do WAY better

People give Riot a lot of shit. I give Riot a TON of shit. But they have massively improved the game since its release.

The only problem is that a lot of the issues we have had for years in terms of balance, inconsistency, and bugs linger for entire SEASONS before they bother fixing it. Readability issues. Ability consistency. Why can Ryze snare me after I flash? Why do I still die from an auto when I flash? Sure it's fun as trynd to crit someone as they flash and they die but it feels HORRIBLE for the other person and it's simply due to the mechanics league runs on.

The client is complete and utter horse shit, unoptimized, primitive garbage. Luckily they've been working on the new client (which finally hit Alpha) but does anyone remember Wintermint? Literally a better client than the Alpha client and it was available for a short time, several years ago. Riot took it down, citing "security" reasons. Nothing ever came of the so called employment of its' developer.

Then you have the efficiency at which they do things. They are a MASSIVE company yet take fucking AGES to do ANYTHING. It's CRAZY how inefficient they are. It would be a nightmare to work there, despite how fun it sounds, because of the alleged disorganization.

Riot can do a few things in order to make League great again.

  • Dedicate teams to fixing certain bugs/readability issues EVERY patch. Yeah, there's a few bug fixes in most patches but for the most part, they disorganized, at the bottom, and are to undo something the previous patch broke. There's huge compilations of bugs from every champion and role in the game all over the place. Like Reddit, for example.

  • Dedicated team to do sfx readability/consistency overhaul. This would be like the skin rebalancing, but instead redrawing/adjusting the SFX of spells to better match their hitbox. There's zero reason that if I'm sitting well outside of Illaoi's Q box that I should still be hit. It's inconsistent and misleading as fuck. Same thing with Ekko Q. That hitbox is ridiculous. Oh, and the truck that Morgana throws? Let's be honest, that shit needs to be slimmed down or actually make it look as plump as it actually is. You know she thicc. I know she's thicc. Show it off. Nidalee Q is a good example of what this would accomplish. It was adjusted numerous times and it now fits the hitbox almost perfectly. If you look like you dodged it, you did.

  • Minion block. I don't know what else to say. Nothing is more frustrating, inconsistent, and tilting as minion block in league for melee champions. It impacts csing, trading, lane control, damn near everything for melee champs and it's unpredictable.

Better/totally not completely shit tutorial. Pretty much self explanatory.

  • Inefficiency you guys just take too damn long to do anything. Yeah, it's not easy to do everything as fast as the players want, and you're often right when it comes to letting the dust settle before buffing/nerfing due to recent changes. And that's okay. I'm of the personal opinion that Ryze is super underrated right now. He's strong early and mid but afaik weak late. And you haven't jumped the gun by buffing him massively. Good on you. The problem is where we have the above issues and you've done pretty much nothing about most of them. Great, you're working on the new client. Or, you could have let us keep wintermint so we wouldn't have had to deal with this abomination of adobe air for 6 years.

Point is, you guys have the employees to do everything you need to do. Your E-sports goals aren't going to be met if you can't

Positive things

Balance. Yeah yeah everyone's currently eyeballing me while hovering the downvote button. But the diversity of champions in league has never been greater. I've played since season 1. Diversity has never been greater, plain in simple. For the majority of league's existence, you had 2-3 dominant champions in every single role. You had like Karthus, Ori, Syndra, in jg you had a meta where it was J4, Lee, Kha'zix (maybe Vi.) Etc. In league, even solo queue, you can pretty much play any champion that can reasonably fit your role. Top lane you can play tanks like Sion or Malphite, even assassins (though I wouldn't personally recommend it) or scaling top laners. Literally anyone can jungle, unlike the beginning of last season where you probably would get very close to being executed if you weren't udyr or warwick.

You have a few outliers, namely champions that simply do too much too well (utility-dps-adcs, tanky-bursty-fulltanks, bruiser items on non bruisers, etc) and there's always going to be champions that are a little too strong due to champion balancing, but overall you've done a good job in ensuring diversity. Yeah, nerf GP. I love 'em to death but he fucking needs it.

Progress again I give you guys a lot of shit because you take FOREVER to do fucking ANYTHING. BUT AT LEAST now you're actually making progress. You remade summoner's rift like twice, kinda crippled the other modes but eh who plays them anyway. You're fixing the new player experience by seeding smurfs quicker, made runes cheaper, and will deliver some kind of rune-rework once the new client comes out. You introduced hextech crafting, which is a huge thumbs up in my opinion and should replace any lost income from the rune rework. Give everyone 20 pages please. Seriously.

TL;DR Rito has improved the game a ton and deserves credit for that, but now it should work towards polishing issues remaining from years ago, gradually, every single patch.

so basically you're saying... riot has done some good... but we give them tons of shit, because they absolutely deserve to be given tons of shit?

am i understanding this correctly? how is this any different from what's been said on here a million times over?

He's saying they get a lot of shit because while they did a good job, they can do so much better. Whereas if you just look at all the shit they get, you wouldn't think they do a good job.

soooooooooooooooo basically, riot has done 'some' good shit, but they did a lot 'more' bad shit, and get shit on for it because they deserve it?...

isnt that exactly what i said, and what i said others have said, when i said it? lol

...I had a reply that made sense in my head. But your confidence made me forget what it was and now I can't remember why I posted what I did in the first place. Dammit, sleep deprivation...

I think the point is that they're trying to acknowledge that Riot has done good things. They are working to improve things and sometimes you'd think that goes unnoticed by players.

Me personally, I sh*t on Riot in a place of love. "I love you, Riot. That's why I gotta be harsh on you." Though that love and faith Riot had once earned from me is starting to fray a bit.

Riot is widely known for their disorganization. I know people who applied to work at their company and they've testified that during the interview,, the rioter employers came late which is very unprofessional of any developed company. On top of that, we know from riot's poor decisions regarding public relation responses and lack of transparency on the release of solo queue this entire season. Their poorly made responses explaining why sandbox mode can't happen or solo queue ladder couldnt co-exist with the dynamic queue ladder show that they don't check thoroughly through their responses to check the logic of it. Remember how Riot decided last year that they were going to move the server to chicago which screwed up the pings of their west coast/pacific islander players? They could've made two NA servers, making everyone happy but they refused and tried to justify it with " we dont want to split up the community". Even lately with the release of the skt skins, anyone could clearly see that the kallista and azir skins were below par with the rest of the new skt skins. Apparently these two skins were added late so the skin developers had less time to work on them. You would think that a company that spends as much time trying to "balance" the game would at least invest more time into making good skins. Do monkeys work at riot?

Graphics and art is a department separate from the balance department from what I've heard. But with so many departments with dozens or hundreds of employees assigned to each one, Riot has become a fractured mess.

Why does an auto still hit you after you've flashed away? Because visual effects are misleading. They are misleading because Riot is incapable of collaborating effectively to respond to and resolve existing issues in an efficient manner. And Riot has admitted it openly.

But like so many other mistakes Riot has admitted, they've yet to work on it. Case in point, their public apology for having reworked Fiora in a way that severely upset a vast number of their players. No action was taken to correct the mistakes, however. In the end it amounted to 'Sorry, but not sorry. This is Fiora now; so, deal with it.'

They just issue one meaningless excuse after another despite an enormous backlash from the community against their decisions and actions. They've a long history of lying, making and breaking promises, and always insisting on having their way no matter how many people it upsets.

Like I said in a previous thread. We shouldn't congratulate Riot because 'it could be worse', especially on balance. If something is bad but not terrible, it's still bad and not worthy of commendation.

I also want to step by to say that Russians also had their client named Ru-Lol for quite some time, years probably, until Riot Games finally did their russian server and voiceover.

I'm just sitting over here hardly ever playing because Riot still hasn't even put my favorite map back in the rotating queue.

This season has been the worst one yet, that isn't even a question. Has Riot added some neat stuff to the game over the years? Totally. But that doesn't excuse their top-down 'you're going to play the game the way WE want you to' attitude. There's no reason why custom games shouldn't be wide open for maps and modes. DotA has been doing it for ages.

People go on and on about balance. But then you take a moment to step outside the box and use common sense. And then you realize with 131 champions and more still coming, 2-3 entirely different levels of play (low ELO(, high ELO), professional), that much variety and different mechanics, that it's not as easy as it seems. Also, a game like this should never be perfectly balanced anyways. That's even worse for game design. It's better to intentionally have certain shifting changes in metas/imbalances.

Let me correct you in one little area.

Riot has done a ton in order to make the game better after they released 50 champs in 100 weeks. It is still not as good as it was before there was a new champ every other week.

Matchmaking is still fucking garbage, 2-3+ seasons later. Why am I on a loss streak, always, cause of some cuck(s) in another lane going 0-5? Even if I go 0-5, I end up carrying or equalizing my score at least.

I want to agree on Riot has done some good but I still feel like they screw over their own community sometimes, if not all the time. Balance is one of those issues. Yes I know you said they do a good job at it, which in some cases yes I do agree, but a majority of the time I can't agree to that. I just feel like they gut or buff too many champions for reasons that has to do with the LCS or just for no reason at all. For example, Rek'Sai one of my favorite junglers for a long time is basically repeatedly getting gutted due to how strong she is in the LCS. Sivir I feel is just becoming gutted as well with this patch and the next if the changes on the PBE stay. Meanwhile, Riven gets a pretty hefty buff to her ult even though shes sitting at a reasonable position in win rate and all because Riot says shes "struggling against other top laners." But to all of this, I feel this is just the same thing everytime the LCS rolls around: Some popular picks get a little buff, others get gutted to the ground to make room for others.

As to the things they could improve on, I heavily have to agree. Even though they make progress they are way too slow about it. Also having a team that specifically works on bug fixes and SFX overhalls I think is a great idea. Other things I feel could be added though is a team that specifically focuses on lore and story for people, like myself, who enjoy reading that kind of stuff. Yes I know they do come out with the occasional story like Burning Tides, but the last two stories Bird and the Branch and Bloodlines just didn't interest me that much because I really didn't want to read about those characters. I'd just would like more stories that told about champions that I'm really interested in lore-wise. Course this is IMO, but I'd really appreciate if they could do this.

For the part about an auto going and killing you as you flash, it's because the auto animation went through, but there is a slight period of time where the animation hasn't fully "reached you". Similar to a ranged auto, if you flash away while the auto is mid-air, it will still hit you.
