Stupid idea of the day: a new tank MR item.

Let me vomit out ideas because I'm lazy as hell.

  1. An MR/HP item that reflects part of the damage back to the spell caster if they are within a relatively large range (so Xerath and Karthus won't be affected by this as hard, and it does not affect traps)

  2. An MR/HP item that grants a cleanse effect, probably built out of QSS.

  3. A flat MR item with CDR that grants a size bonus based on your max HP. (RIP the map when Cho and Zac build this)

  4. A flat HP item that reduces targeted ability damage by 10%.

  5. An MR/HP (yes, I f*cking love MR/HP kill me) item that has an active that cleanses debuffs like Vel'koz passive, Cass poison, and Diana Q.

This is probably going to get downvoted, anyway. I'm going to go look for stupid crap to turn into memes now.

I can give feedback on the first two ideas. I don't know what to make of the others.

  1. This is just my personal opinion, but I don't think an MR Thornmail should exist. Not only because there should be a difference between physical and magic damage, the way they act, scale, deal damage, their strengths and weaknesses, etc. but also because of the way spells work. Most Mages have AoE damage. They don't really target a single enemy deliberately. Marksmen and Light Fighters do. So Thornmail is like a "If you want to get through me you'll have to pay the price" type of item while your suggestion would be a "I happened to be in the area, sorry" type of item. I guess that could work well with a Warden identity. Not all Wardens can block spells like Braum can. With this item they could at least dish out a little payback. But then you'd have to make sure it works best on Wardens only and you'd have to balance it for all spell types, and the damage would have to be less than Thornmail's for various reasons which means it would be less effective, too. It might just end up being a sort of MR-Sunfire. And Warden's are supposed to protect, not avenge. So it doesn't fit 100%. I just think it would be more trouble than it's worth.

  2. Cleanse effects are usually used offensively or for disengaging, both things that Tanks don't require as much (because MR/HP is a primarily Tank-oriented stat combination). However Juggernauts might like it, so it could be geared towards them?

This item was primarily meant to keep single target DPS mages like Cass in check.

Maybe. But I would see tanks using it all the time then.

I'm not sure giving Tanks the damage to deal with them on their own is the right way to do that.

Random idea I just had when thinking about Cassiopeia's E, but a good way to hurt Mages without actually hurting them is to damage their Mana instead. What if Tanks had a MR Thornmail that did that? An item like that would probably be even more trouble than it's worth, though, so it would have to be something simple. Maybe something like "Upon being hit by a magic spell, freezes the attacker's Mana Regeneration for 6 seconds"? That wouldn't require all the balancing effort concerning Mana-damage and different spell types. However, it would hurt Supports more than Mages. Mages don't have a lot of Mana Regen to begin with. Maybe something like "Upon being hit by a non-DoT magic spell, increases the attacker's next Mana Cost within 2 seconds by 40%"? I don't know.

  1. Tanks don't need more damage to kill mages

  2. How about 50% tenacity for 5 seconds or something? Seems more useful than a cleanse to me.

  3. Cool

  4. Sounds pretty nice

  5. Gonna be kinda hard to characterize those debuffs... so... do you mean everything not CC?

Stupid idea of the day

This sounds like a cheap knock off of my "Dumb Idea" threads...

Item number 4 sounds fun.

I didn't intend to do a knock off of anything. I'm just acknowledging from the get go that it's a stupid idea.
