Why would a Cait ever ult at close range?

Let's ignore the fact that this ultimate is not, in fact, global. Let's ignore the fact that this only damages one person, period. Let's ignore the fact you can body-block it (this includes 4000 health tanks wearing Warmogs who would laugh at you for trying) Let's ignore the fact that you'd probably need somewhere near 300 bonus AD to one-shot anyone end-game. Let's ignore the fact that Braum Yasuo and item 3157 can cause you to blow it on nothing (in the case of the former two, even if you target someone else.) Let's ignore the fact that champions like Pantheon Shaco Ekko Kindred Zed Fiora can completely negate it mid-projectile (usually ulting to do so, but still)

This ability needs to be gutted... because you can one-shot a carry, who realistically never build any kind of defense at all, who should have a tank or at least a support around them at all times, especially with you in the game.

This ultimate actually has a pretty decent amount of counterplay OP, despite the fact you (usually) can't blow a mobility spell to escape.

you seem to be assuming 3 things incorrectly, so im gonna inform you on what im saying here

  1. im not comparing her ult to jinx's. Im just using jinx's ult as an example of the change in damage
  2. I was saying that she shouldnt be able to use it in very close situations. so caring about its max range is irrelevant.
  3. jinx ult is a projectile as well.

Well, let's think about a few things then:

  1. You should not compare anything to anything else unless they have very similar or the exact same mechanics, and even then only within the context of their entire kit.
  2. Why the fuck would a Caitlyn ever ult in close range, save if she was trying to finish someone off and her net was on cooldown? She could auto attack and do more damage in the majority of cases where this mechanic would come into play.
  3. She's shooting a bullet that's at least equivalent to a .50 caliber, if not higher (going off of her '90 Caliber Net') this is the kind of gun you shoot at tanks and kill people inside them.
  4. If anything, her bullet would probably have fall-off damage based around how much you move around. Bullets exist that can change direction mid-flight, but they are prohibitively expensive to field and are actually less effective than normal bullets.
  5. Jinx's Ultimate is an AoE Execute with Global Range meant to either pick off opponents who would normally have gotten away, apply global pressure if you are extremely good at predicting your opponent's movements, or decisively end team-fights. Caitlyn's Ultimate is either there to apply pressure or finish off a running target. While both of them can be used for similar effects, one of them can be dodged but applies to everyone in the explosion, and one of them is a single-targetted effect meant to hit a priority target.

You want a Marksman's ultimate, which actually has a ton of counterplay in it compared to other abilities some Marksman employ, to get nerfed in an area you probably aren't going to use it and, in real life, would actually be even more effective due to less outside forces counteracting the bullet's inertia (though obviously more ridiculous to try and pull off on a moving target considering any decent marksman of our age knows the Head is a risky target but everything in the chest is vital) because you one-shot a carry who historically never builds defensively anyway.

If you feel guilty, maybe you should try a different Champion.

If anything Caitlyn needs a buff... she's a reasonable answer to certain short range ADCs but otherwise there's not anything special to her... Her damage is a chunk lower than most ADCs throughout the game it seems.

Definitely does not need a buff. She is actually really good right now. I've gotten to the point where I have one shot carries because of E + Headshot Crits. Her laning phase is actually pretty strong too with her zone control and high AA range she can easily AA the ADC a few times and poke them out of lane with Q as well.

why? cait isn't very good right now only a pick for the matchup rather than a pick that's always good

if anything her ult should be buffed.

Cait ult is crap

How so?

A rocket picks up speed as it travels (hits harder after a while). A bullet loses speed as it travels( hits harder at the beginning) so a change like you suggest would be completely counter intuitive.

No, unlike JInx's ult, you have plenty of time to get behind someone to avoid it.
