Runes in their current form are toxic

Ok so this has been brought up many times before but i believe it's time to bring it up yet again. Runes give players an in-game advantage and allow players to slightly adjust the way they enter a game, maybe taking more ap instead of magic resist mid or taking movespeed quints over AD when jungling. The problem with this system lies in a few things different things

  1. new players can't afford new runes, and will have less than their higher level opponents normally, they are also trying to buy new champions to try out making it difficult to get runes/new champions at the same time.
  2. runes can be bought with rp, essentially making levels 1-30 pay to win if you're willing to drop a few bucks edit: (i was wrong about this thing right here btw, idk why i thought you could buy runes with rp)
  3. rune pages set players back even further in their ip budget and 2 just isn't enough for serious play. 4.the lower tier runes are useless, and getting a random higher tier rune by dropping a number of them isn't worth, you're essentially losing ip/rp by investing in lower tier runes.

So how can we fix this? It's obvious (to me anyway) that the rune system needs a rework to help newer players get into the game and help lvl 30 plus players expand their runes/rune pages. I'm strapped for time now but i'll edit my plans in later, until then, post away your own ideas.

As an alternatively, how about we just remove them, and rebalance the game and Mastery system around its removal?

Yes, people will bitch about it, but people bitch about everything and fixing a broken system is more important than keeping everyone's feelings from being hurt. Sometimes you have to rebreak a bone so that it sets right. It's becoming increasingly obvious that this is one of those times.

I feel like the price needs to be lowered. 3 quints that are 2050 (i think that's the most expensive quint price) is enough for a 6.3k champ.

Its hard to say one I hav seen some rune pages that should no work but they do and others that fail.

Ive only ever used two rune pages and they work fine for everything. Secondly new players will be placed against other new players that don't have runes either.

So to me the system is fine.

smurf accounts make that exception, and people who buy ip boosts can have more runes and therefore an unfair advantage, but even then they early runes they buy end up useless

1 you cannot buy runes with RP you can buy IP boosts but you cannot directly buy runes with RP also riot uses their RP system to make money this is not just a video game it is a business 2 runes will not MAKE OR BREAK a game especially at low elo/normal games even in high elo if you pick the wrong rune page it isnt the end of the world typically if you just save up your RP from level 1-30 you will have enough IP and free RP from leveling to obtain a few champions as well as enough runes to have a flat AD/MR/ARM page and a flat AP/MR/ARM page which will take you pretty far

The only thing i agree with is starting with 2 rune pages i think you should start with 3 so you can have an AP an AD and a support page

this game is so far from pay to win there is no advantage in game wise i will admit tho the leveling system from 1-30 is kinda meh but really at this point there are not many NEW players anymore only people trying to create smurfs so it really isn't that big of a deal

i think level 3 runes should be the only runes that's about it

my main issue with runes is that they make newer players have an even worse introduction to the game than they already have (what with smurfs and such running around)

You sir are a newbie and likely a casual no offence meant. Play for a year and it wont be an issue anymore.

sorry but while i am casual i've been playing since season 2. I don't have an issue with runes but they are still toxic imo
