The honor system didn't work very well and was essentially abandoned. When they first released it everyone basically honored everyone that they didn't report. Tons of people got ribbons. Then as the novelty wore of people stopped giving honor. Most people, except for the most positive(even some of them), lost their ribbons just because no one was honoring anymore. Since it uses a similar, if not the same, weight system that reports use. It left a situation where only a few people honor but because not enough people are doing it for those people to actually get a ribbon. So the people left who actually give honor have theirs worth very little. Almost everyone I see that has a ribbon says something like "honor for all" in post game which leds to getting honors from people who don't normally do it so their honor weight is high.

They have talked about revamping honor with the upcoming tribunal update. So people will be voting on positive players(honor) as well as negative cases(reports). I'm curious to see what they do with it though.

They are very hard to obtain and very easy to lose. I lost my green band because I replied back to someone with a bad attitude. I didn't flame, didn't use any slang, offensive words, just pointed out what he did was wrong. Same thing happened to a friend, too.

Unless it's reworked, I think it's safe to say Honor was a failed initiative, from the perspective of whether or not it accomplished its design goals. Legitimately positive players have a very hard time obtaining Crests, it's insanely easy to abuse, and it has a ton of clarity problems in how it's calculated/maintained.

SociopathFriend9/30/2015, 5:49:51 AM3 votes

I had one for a bit and then lost it too- I was pretty bummed about that because I try really hard to be a good team-player and I lost my ribbon purely because people stopped caring enough to reward it. My play style and attitude didn't change- people just stopped caring about the honor.

Gileneas9/29/2015, 3:09:41 PM2 votes

They were a good idea at first, but then Riot made them almost impossible to get because the more honors an account gave out to players, the less those honors actually helped.

Additionally I'm fairly certain that if you've ever been given any kind of punishment by Riot, the system makes you ineligible. Could be how it was but not anymore, or I could be flat wrong.

SH Azykan9/29/2015, 8:06:22 PM2 votes

on LAN it is super easy to get them (rocking the "Helpful" one on my account there) The only one I managed on NA was honorable opponent...It just seems like people in NA dont spend the time to honor people, they just want to instantly get to whatever is next (be it a game or logging out or whatever)

KoKoboto9/29/2015, 9:29:01 PM1 votes

Yeah and once you get higher ELO people don't really honour anymore, they just chill and move onto next game win or loss

Alleo9/29/2015, 10:23:37 PM1 votes

TFW you don't even know how much of any you need before getting a band.

FostXTV9/29/2015, 10:45:25 PM1 votes

I owned Mentor ribbon after getting 5 helpful honors. I had to go to Summer Vacation for 3 weeks and I was unable to connect and play so Riot just took it for no reason. When I sent them a message they said "Earn it again.". Like wth Rito I worked hard for it..

Absolute0Chaos9/29/2015, 11:30:15 PM1 votes

I always remind people to honour at the end of the game.

I have 2 ribbons, or got 2, as it only shows the rarest one.

gubigubi9/30/2015, 12:02:48 AM1 votes

Yeah they need to reduce how hard it is to get them again. It's pretty much impossible to get them at all. At one point or another I had each one at one point but I think I never had helpful. Now i never get them ever because higher level and higher rank people do not give them out as much.

UPfreely9/30/2015, 2:33:44 AM1 votes

when i first started playing i had all 3 bands. they quickly die off if you don't get the honors regularly.

DynamiteGazelle9/30/2015, 3:10:07 AM1 votes

Before I hit level 30 I had had 3 out of the 4 honor bands at one point or another, but then I took a break from the game for a while and they were gone when I came back.

When I was pre-30 I saw sooooo many people with honor bands. They must be given to pre-30s more easily.

Xietnin9/30/2015, 5:27:22 AM1 votes

At this point, the best way to farm the bands is to have everyone in the group you play with honor you every game. I played with a group that Teamwork honored themselves after every game. Needless to say, every time I play with them, I think their collective favorite color is green because of their diligence in sustaining their Teamwork ribbons.

I wonder if the stats are different from one region to another and it would be neat if a red could post some data about it there. I play on EUW (but only read NA board, EUW board is so dead...) and receive honor on a regular basis (between 1 and 2 Teamwork per game). It seems like I gain less honor when we're utterly crushed by the ennemies compared to a standard win from our side, but I still happen to get some (usually, I assume, from my support, since I tend to play a lot of adc). This might be totally different on NA.

Also, I wonder if the efforts to promote positivity in LoL carry on the player to other games ? Like, are Smite's player who play LoL on a regular basis less likely to flame than Smite's "core" players ?

Borbland9/30/2015, 8:39:36 AM1 votes

Yeah, had two, one stayed like a month, shortly after the implemantation of honor, the other dispeared in days.

Laughing Fish9/30/2015, 2:38:07 PM1 votes

I have a Green ribbon. Just play Gentlemen Cho'Gath, talk like a gentlemen all game long, and you will get it in no time. http://media.giphy.com/media/O0qcxJrLC1wIw/giphy.gif

I've been awarded all 4 banners in season 3, even got teamwork twice, but right now I don't have a banner. It's quite odd too and at this point I've given up on ever getting one back.

TDJ Vicarl9/29/2015, 2:38:38 PM1 votes

why would it matter as long as your not toxic?

T RexHasTinyArms9/30/2015, 8:02:42 PM1 votes

The issue is really only that it is top % on the server rather than in particular ques (ie if you receive honor in ranked it counts as ranked honor and top % of players in terms of ranked honor get a badge rather than top % of server). This results in the majority of honor badges being on players who primarily play things like bots games bc there is a decent amount of honor when people are being friendly and almost never reports in bots games. Honestly if it was a system where the players who were top 10% of honor in particular game modes/ques it would be way easier to get in general bc you wouldn't be restricted to particular types of games and have to have stupid high honor numbers. At least I think that's still how it works. Maybe they changed it away from server wide comparison, but I don't think they have.

Daedalus8719/29/2015, 2:47:26 PM1 votes

I use to have one.

Having some spare digital toilet paper was nice, even if I only had to use it once.

Blade of Justic9/29/2015, 4:50:53 PM1 votes

I used to bounce between "Helpful" and "Teamwork" before it got changed.

Now, I just hope I don't get "Honorable Opponent".

People only seem to give those out if they absolutely demolish your team.

Maximum Morde9/29/2015, 7:49:31 PM1 votes

It was obvious to me from the outset that this would happen. Anyone who knows about human behavior and/or survey methodology would have expected this. Let's say human behavior is ranked 0-10 from bad to good. Since people tend to respond to negative stimuli stronger than positive, you would expect anyone who felt your behavior was 4 or lower to be pretty likely to report you. Meanwhile, to get the same positive response and get honored, you'd need them to feel your behavior was like a 9 or 10 for it to be as noticeable as even the slightly below average behavior of a 4.

Being as Lyte and his team are not stupid, I have to assume this was by design. Or maybe they were all High and didn't think about it.

I once had the golden honor band. Then my internet was wonkey for about a week or two and I was reported afk before I could reconnect. I was subsequently banned for a short period of time. I cried inside. Then I embraced the toxic and now... I dgaf (I'm actually still crying inside).
