I recently made a new account, my friend had just started playing league and i didn't want to match him up with higher levels so i figured i'd play games with him on a low level account and hold back a bit. One thing that we've both enjoyed playing recently is ARAM. Not only do you not have to worry about things such as getting countered in lane or objectives, but the mode itself has a much more casual atmosphere. With all the toxicity on the main map and the whole rune problem where players are disadvantaged from the get go, ARAM seems like a great casual alternative.

Another thing that makes ARAM(and dominion) appeal to more casual players is that the games are much shorter.

I find it the same way. The only thing that ruins it is when the enemy team is super wombo combo and everyone on your team is melee

SR could be a nice place as well. It's just that players turned into single-minded jerks who only want to win. It's like making love with your only goal being your own climax. They don't understand that victory is just a reward for the better player, while the real fun hides within the gameplay. They treat this game as a bitch, instead of just chilling and having fun with fellow players.

I personally prefer SR to ARAM, because I like the complexity and because I like to use my knowledge. But hey, everyone's up for something different.

Competitive how? Are you close to Challenger? Look, I get the whole people are competitive and like to win, but honestly, is it really going to make a difference in your everyday life? At the end of the day, your KDA/MMR/LP/ect isn't going to matter. "I wasted my time," is not a valid excuse when you're not close to be a professional gamer. You have fun, or not.

And, of course he wants to win, but he doesn't want to be a completely toxic player and flame anyone who doesn't have the same mindset.

You don't have fun in mobas in general. The genre feels like it isn't too well built for those sorts of shenanigans. I love DotA2 more than League personally but even then unless the game is close you're not having fun unless you like stomping, and the losing team of a stomp isn't ever going to have fun (unless it's chat, but then you realize the game has become a glorified chatroom while you lose rather than a fun game).

You dont have fun when its a onesided stomp, the only times i feel like its fun is when both teams are equally involved and engaged, and matches like those are as rare as finding a yeti irl.

Not as horrible as fucking annie, when you see that snowball annie in the enemy team its insta gg, especially when they also have a tf. (and 99% of all aram players have a tf every single game in the enemy team, i guarantee it. im so fucking sick of playing vs tf.) Oh and what the fuck is up with a nautilus in the enemy team every game.

I mean you can.... doesn't mean that anything will come of it. I hate that people both want people to be more friendly and less toxic while also saying "report for emote spamming." Is there no more playful trashtalking? What happened to a game where people could laugh at each other without fear of getting chat restricted? "GGEZ" is now bannable, soon the winning team saying "gg" first is going to be bannable. People just want a reason to report someone when they lose, and that's not acceptable behavior.

I have no problem with "playful trash talk". I'm not saying to report anyone who uses /taunt after a kill.
Having a macro that spams /laugh or /taunt or /joke nonstop for the entire match is not "playful trash talk", it's abusing game mechanics to be a jerk.
Being a bad winner has always been against the Summoner's Code. I don't think I ever saw a Tribunal case where someone was punished solely for "ggez" or "bg" or other parting shots like that, but it definitely reflects badly on that player if their behavior is borderline to begin with.

didnt know that, thanks. i even started reporting people who spam their laugh in onesided games because regardless of it being an inbuilt mechanic its meant to insult, and no i dont have thin skin.. just try to keep your cool after 5 onesided matches and people feel like they need to rub another one in.

ARAM and Dominion are both have a much more friendly atmosphere. Both are usually short enough that bad games are over quickly. And mistakes are less punishing. ARAM can always be turned around because if you're losing, you're dying more. Meaning your buying more. Use that to ace the team and make a good push to get back into the game. Everything in Dominion is recoverable unless you're facing a team that's flat out beating you(like a fed Yi or something). But you still have to manage to get it back.

SR is far more stressful on many levels. And S4 really killed it off for me. I know it's gotten better, and the tank meta was very enjoyable as a whole. But S4 still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. And I like playing the mages that were there for most of it.

Shame Dominion doesn't get more love. A lot of the toxic people who are toxic because of SR could go to Dominion and have a quieter time. But since Riot doesn't really support it, it'll never go anywhere.

Hell, Riot could change their chat bans into "Dominion only" bans. Get them off SR and watch their stress level fall. Assuming they do something about the bots.

THIS. Im only toxic myself (what the heck does that even mean anyway) after streaks of toxic people. I have like every other person my breaking point when people continually harass me while throwing themselves hard in consecutive games, there is just a moment when you start to feel hopeless and inadequate no matter how well you play. also why i refuse to play ranked but even still am put off to start a normal sr, i wish i could play dominion but that mode has goddamn 15 minute minimum qeues, often up to an hour for me. So no go. Im forced to play aram pretty much, and even there the people these days are toxic. Back when it was so much better before the 'rerolls and trades' when it was ACTUALLY random and comps could get real weird and suprising. Now its just another "get all the op champs with maximum harass and atleast one champ to make every and all attempts to initiate void" makes me sick.

Another thing that I've found makes it appeal to newer players is that it helps them learn to dodge a lot of different skill shots and learn somewhat how to play against a variety of champs without playing bots or SR

There is a strat to ARAM.. but most people play it just to relax anyway..

Step #1 look at your comp and figure what it is. Step #2 look at the enemy comp and figure what it is. Step #3 play to your strengths

and what is surprising .. this game mode is primarily about siege'ing turrets and yet.. when you play summons rift.. people seem to not do what they would do on the bridge.

I can understand that feeling, but one of the big attractions of ARAM to me is that I don't always get my favorite champions. Every now and then I get forced to play a free champion. I like the challenge of figuring out how to be effective with that champion on the fly, and it is a great way to expand my champion pool. The randomness is not for everyone, but there are some people who really like the novelty it offers in terms of champion familiarity and match-to-match strategy differences.

I'm currently someone who likes ARAM a lot, but I have a few problems with it. One are people who actually have their account for aram purposes only kinda makes it less fun, you can pretty much say you'll be guaranteed to be against like varus, kog, soraka, kat, anyone who's super strong for aram.

Another is I feel like the champs chosen isn't really random. I have nearly all the champions, and out of those champions, I normally only get 20 of them picked instantly or rerolled

I play it because every time I play a champion in any particular role, I get counterpicked. In Blind Pick and Team Builder, no less. Plus for me it's a lot of fun to get a super tank and just bull rush at people. Like that Mundo quadra I got once.

To be honest, lately i stopped playing normal and ranked games all together. The toxicity and overall elitist attitude of a big proportion of players is nt plesant. In aram i find myself being in many, MANY games where the atmosphear is more friendly.

The random factor create sometimes really scary or hilarious situations. And also, people don't blame as much for failure, as they all know that in a 5v5 narrow lane with a random picked champion is not much to blame.

An other thing that i love Aram for is the rate you farm IP. There are some many actually, good people who pay those 1 time RP skins, and give in addition regardless of win or lose 100 more IP. With matches being from 15-25 minutes the IP farm is far more efficient.

Not only new players though, tons of my friends and I play together to relax after ranked. You don't have to worry about tanks or warding, it's much more relaxing
