@Riot [[Champion Updates]] "WHY DO WE HAVE UPDATES?"

Wukong Airways·8/29/2018, 3:18:59 PM·12 votes·6,473 views

This is the question that Riot themselves asked and answered on their website https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/202294884-Champion-Update-Schedule

and if you dont wanna bother checking the answer, here:- WHY DO WE HAVE UPDATES? A champion update is a graphical or kit (play style) update that occurs after a champion's initial release. Over the past year, our teams have been working on updating champions whose visuals or gameplay don't fit with the current state of the game. Our goal is to level up any outdated visuals or gameplay to make them feel fresh while still retaining what makes them unique as a champion.

Ok, now you must be wondering why the fuck I'm telling you this when most people probably know it.

Reav3 (NA) Gameplay Producer - 2 days ago The thing about Wukong is that we used to only be able to get survey and data from players in Riot regions, and in NA/EU he is highly requested for a update. This made us put him high on our update list. A couple years ago though we started getting data from China as well. In China he is extremely popular and not anywhere close to highly requested for a update as most players there love his kit. This made us re-think his priority on our list as we have to think about all our players globally when we prioritize updates. While our NA/EU players would be happy with a Wukong update, it comes at a very high risk of just upsetting and confusing many players in China who wouldn't understand why we are updating a Champion like Wukong who they view as a great Champion.

As you can see, most Wukong playerbase are getting fucked over because Riot's using the "chinese player base" excuse so he won't get a rework.

Now I wonder why they arent applying what they mentioned in the Champions updates site and why WUKONG is an exception and they're respecting the chinese players opinion only to keep a champion outdated af and "incompetent Or broken" with no inbetween.

What about Aatrox mains? Many aatrox mains quitted him after the rework because they didn't like him but we can't get a fucking rework because chinese players like him?

But for real, I'm grateful for Wukong's recent buff [8% A.S level 1] , now my fast-clear combined with my sustain and tankiness is unbeatable, wukong has been completely changed into a Diver with this buff, we no longer need a passive anymore.

confirming he won't get any updates

That statement is completely made up. Reav3 actually answered to concerns similar to yours, so instead of lying about what he said, why not use his actual words?

I didn't say "China specifically does not want him changed, so we aren't" I said we have to weigh in all these factors when we decide on who should get a update. We still want to update Wukong at some point, there are just currently higher value Champions to update.

I think it is unfair to not think about all our players in all our regions. Should we devalue Chinese players just because our company isn't in China? That actually seems pretty unfair to me. We still updated Xin even though he was in the same situation as Wukong, but Xins gameplay vas FAR more outdated then Wukongs.

I don't see anything wrong with lowering Wukong's VGU priority because a large part of the playerbase enjoys him in his current state.

I know how you feel. You have one of your favorite champions you play all the time, constantly being ignored for obvious work he or she deserves. Developers like Meddler and Reav3s will always have an excuse to never work on what actually needs work on, but a reason to go out of their way to work on content and updates for champions like Ezreal, Lux, Ahri, Jinx, Ryze, new champions, and much more.

Karma

She is a popular choice in China. It took this brain-dead Development team 5 years to finally work on her kit that they knowingly ruined with her relaunch. After failed attempts at numbers buffing her, creating specific itemization that should could abuse, and single handily coming up with every excuse in the book to never work on Karma, this Development team is finally working on Karma. The problem is they are not even working on her massive art problems that they created along with the gameplay identity they never actually improved with her relaunch.

MonkeyKing

The same can be said about Wukong. Wukong is in almost the same state as Karma is and it probably will be many years before this Development team even cares to look at him. Wukong has been buffed and nerfed the past few years, being forced into a role he probably shouldn't be in, can abuse specific itemization that makes him stronger than he actually is, and is popular within a range of players that can be used as an excuse to never tackle his kit and art problems.

The Developers are aware of all these problems. The Developers want you to be patient, understanding, cut them some slack, and go out of your way to show them support for their bias work ethic.

Ryze - He has received 4 VGU/massive reworks and is slated for another one. Lux - Consistently gets kit changes and even had her art worked on. Ahri - Same boat as Lux. Jinx - Has received constant kit changes. Ezreal - Prioritized for a mini VGU simply because he is more popular than the others.

We can sit here and go into specifics but the fact of the matter it took this Development team 5 years to even glance at Karma and it is not even going to dent the massive problems that they created. This Development team is aware of Wukong's kit and art problems. The fact of the matter is he is getting the Karma treatment.

Like DerMangojoghurt already said, his statement isn't that they will never update Wukong. But there are many factors deciding which champion will get the next update and the fact that a pretty big playerbase still enjoys this champion makes his update less due for now.

They still want to update him, this just means that it decreased his priority. Which is fine, there are alot of champions with higher priority than him anyway and I think many people will agree to that.

Reav3 just clarified himself in terms of Wukong's update

It seems like he was only referring to Wukong in terms of a VGU, not a gameplay update. Which I can agree with as there are many more pressing matters in terms of a VGU to deal with. Mordekaiser Pantheon DrMundo to name a few. As for the Ez update it seems like that is something they are testing out. Pretty much a smaller scale, mostly visual update to a champ and if THAT goes well, we could see a Wukong VGU in those terms as they think that would be more suited for him.

just because wukong isn't getting any updates now doesn't mean he won't get any later down the road. it could be something like Warwick where the champion essentially got a modern version of his previous kit. Hell you can even look at Nunu now, pretty much the same champion except... well you know... with a modern kit.

hhaavviikk8/29/2018, 4:57:16 PM2 votes

why does popularity even matter? popularity shouldn't decide who gets reworked, a champion having an unhealthy or outdated kit should decide a rework, like tryndamere, when's that rng machine getting reworked...

Pika Fox8/29/2018, 5:04:52 PM2 votes

They didnt say "wukong isnt going to get reworked". Just that his position in the queue has changed (and likely what they need to do to make him well recieved).
