Isn't the reason why people Run aftershock on some mages is the amount of damage in the game?

If you compare Lissandra damages output to other mages, you'll notice that her damage output is very low to other mages, the fact that she has a suicidal playstyle require her to go in and ditch out her whole combo while trying to rotate as much Qs into it.

Another thing to notice, alot of the mages that runs aftershocks are short to mid range mages, requiring to be fighting classes like Bruisers, Fighters, Tanks.

On top of their low base hp and armor and mr, aftershock is an ideal runes for them vs high damages champions that require all in.

What are the solutions I propose:

Nerf aftershock on ranged,

buff the champions that require aftershocks,

Bring back their base damage in par with other mages, buff their base hp and base armor and Mr.

They are Short-Mid ranges battlemages, they need some sort of increase in base defense.

People would rather complain about how Lissandra can lock you down near effortlessly for ganks, or how Neeko [blah...], or how Fiddlesticks [blah...]...

You look at who these whiners play and it's often times one of Zed Lucian Talon XinZhao Leblanc, or some other obnoxiously aggressive early-mid game pick, because they're afraid that the rune invalidates their trades. They got the better end of the stick, because the meta invalidates the near entirety of the previously mentioned Neeko Lissandra Fiddlesticks unless they abuse Aftershock.

This is a worldwide game. More than 20 people play it. Calling for nerfs to a rune that makes you have to use your brain cells instead of face rolling for free lane phases is one of the reasons Rioters don't come to the common individual for insight or advice.

This is the most unthoughtful and biased comment I've seen in a long time.

Apparently, a rune being broken is justified because "you have to use your brain cells" and you think that champions you don't like "face roll for free laning phases". This literally is not an argument.

If the rune was soo broken, why the fuck aren't tank viable? Are you that dumb and unthoughful? Look at the champions that use to run aftershocks, under 49% winrate. This is what I'm talking about the part of the community who never use their brains and give biased comments on people that have thoughtful facts. Don't confuse your opinion with others who use their actually facts and game knowledge.

because tanks don't benefit from the keystone as much. They get like 50% increased armor while mages get like 120% increased armor for the duration.

Plus the keystone is anti-burst, but tanks play in a more combo-DPS lane.

lastly, tank design in league is shit. Most tanks are unhealthy when viable.

FelixFurry1 votes

All of this is exceptionally true. A broken rune doesn't mean it's abusable on every champion, it also means the rune has such a high user disparity that there are champions that rely on it to be relevant (Lissandra, Galio, maybe some supports), some that can take it but don't benefit greatly from the keystone (referencing the point above, tanks need DPS resistant runes, not burst resistant runes, and that rune also needs to impact their tankiness since tank stats lose value the more you build), and the rest of the champ pool that can never take it, ever.

Yeah, Lissandra Galio and supports should be able to take AS as a viable path, but when it's dominant and becomes the only rune they can go to maximize their playstyles, that is unhealthy.

LTK KoRo1 votes

also tbh there's no good rune for ap dps/battlemage playstyle. Both comet and aery are bad at it, phase rush fits only some of the champs (cassio, ryze). Lets imagine that some of us are playing Lissandra right now, and aftershock is disabled. Is there any rune which feels good on her? i don't think so

FelixFurry1 votes

Electrocute, Comet, Aery, GA, and DH all work just fine. They all fit different playstyles, Aftershock is just abusable.

LTK KoRo1 votes

they work "fine", but they feel terrible to use and they usually don't give you what you need

FelixFurry1 votes

You...literally just answered your own question. Aftershock's broken qualities isn't that it is abusable on everybody, just users that can maximize the anti-burst properties to dish out their own burst that usually should be risky, and now it isn't. That disparity between users proves that isn't properly balanced.

Also, constructive communication leads to better conversation.

because this runes basically allows everyone to have tanks-level of tankiness.

and yeah, it is obnoxious.

No. People would fucking run it because it gives you basically 90% damage reduction.

ModAcademy Kayn7 votes

Actually true. People don't switch to Aftershock on Lissandra just to counterpick other champions, it's just so much better with Liss being a short range mage than more damage. It allows her to make trades outside of just trying to poke with Q, while keeping her safer midst while.

People use to run Electrocute on Lissandra, but overtime her base damage and build path doesn't offer her much more damage. People rather go ROA or Protobelt instead of going for Ludens echo.

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

Exactly, Lissandra values being alive in a fight longer than bursting someone. She's actually really bad at bursting than others, given how close she needs to be to do it, most the time she's ulting folk for others to kick their shin. Because of that, especially late game in teamfights, those extra resistances do a lot for her.

That's on a 45sec cooldown, while other runes that are much burstier are on a much lower cooldown. and don't exagerate with the 90% damage reduction, its around 50%.

Still pick ban

They need to make aftershock defenses scale with the champion own resistances, instead of being a flat value. That would make it useless for mages, and more useful for tanks.

Riot did mention in the pre season, that the runes reforged update would favor player diversity in builds, technically you can still go Electrocute lissandra, or Aery or Comet on her. It's just that one of the keystones runes offer soo much more defensive capabilities than the others.

what diversity? your only choose which "damage more" keystone your champ abuse the best and fill rest with more or less decorative runes that become obsolete after 10 minutes into a game

Is aftershock the best in damages? No its not, its the best one when it comes to resistance, does electrocute offer resistance? Does Aery offers resistance? Does Comet offer resistance? Can mages runes lethal tempo? Can mages runs conqueror and makes the most use of its passive? No

FelixFurry1 votes

Not the point. Aftershocks benefit is that short-ranged mages can take the rune and live longer in fights than they would have otherwise, allowing for them to dish out more damage. Lissandra for example before had E->W->Q->R->Q and would have to Zhonya's before getting destroyed in a teamfight. Now you can skip Zhonya's and just dish out a full combo and have enough health after to spam Q after she blows R.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pq2a7EJo4lc Can mage run conqueror? There is no diversity because riot refuse to give diversity. That was before conqueror was nerfed btw.

Wait, are you saying mages are occasionally viable again? We must nerf this immediately!!!

It's boards bias as usual. They want to pretend that the game is dying and it's X's fault. It's totally mages fault that the game is shit, but if it's not mages it's ADCs, if it's not ADCs it's range champions in general, etc. etc. The last place they want to look is at their own small list of characters.

Yea and if I remember correctly the best seasons was season 3 where mages were dominant and every champions had ludicrous ratios while itemization were weak.

i would rather get rid of aftershock and bring back courage of the colossus, since it scaled off max health squishies couldn't abuse it as easily, and its effectiveness was based on number of enemy champions around so it wasn't as oppressive in a 1v1 setting.

They take it because it literally means that everytime it is up you win that trade by default. The rune giving flat amounts of bonus instead of increasing based on your armor or magic resist is a terrible design AKA the reason why Lissandra is very capable of using it. Also, for some reason, it does damage scaling off your AD/AP/HP wich makes also no sense. The best direction to change this rune is to literally remove the damage portion (it's a defensive rune, there's no need to literally do damage) and make the bonus Armor and MR scale off bonus Armor and bonus Magic Resist, this way tanks would benefit more of taking this rune, and it would be a big nerf to not intended picks.
