Attention mid laners: STOP BUYING ATHENES

Just had a Xerath who insisted on buying Athenes "for the mana regen", completely ignoring the fact that Xerath has no heals or shield to speak of making the item totally worthless. It gives a pitiful amount of AP, and Abyssal Scepter outshines it in terms of MR.

Athenes is a support item now; STOP BUYING IT ON MID LANERS. Hell, even Lulu/Karma mid have better things to buy than Athenes. What's the point of going Lulu mid if you're not going to build damage? Might as well go support Lulu.

If you want mana, Morellos or Tear are FAR better choices on just about every single AP mid laner. Read the patch notes once in a while so you don't get into game and look like a fool. Unless you're coming off of a 1 year break, you have no excuse to still be buying Athenes on mid laners.

it's decent on certain midlaners - ones that can use it - if you get behind early. It's cheap, provides regen, and helps you transition in to a support role

What's the point of going Lulu mid if you're not going to build damage? Might as well go support Lulu.

Because Lulu support is bad version of Janna.

Honestly, Athene's is not a rush item but will do the job as a 3rd/4th item. I'm personally having some success running RoA/Athene's on my smurf.

40ap MR mana AND hp regen cooldown reductions

bitch plz I'll buy a heal if you need that passive to be worth it so bad. Manaless champs build triforce so don't act like this is just common sense. Slap some math on it.

When you are going to prioritize just becoming a second support of the team, then otherwise it's not the best buy.

Picking Lulu mid is basically telling your team that there will be a second support so someone else has to do the damage dealing part. If you're picking her for the damage I have bad news for you.

So, with those two points, buying Athene's on Lulu mid is not an at all bad idea.
