Are hybrid pen runes ever good?

BearExperiment··1 votes·5,197 views

Are they worth taking on any champions? I think I used to use them on Corki and it was ok. Same with life steal, those useful anymore?

Just re doing my rune pages and trying to include anything that could be useful, even if very situational.

they're ok on champs who deal mixed damage. but mainly they're for the early game mid laners who want to get solo kills. and they believe they're doing just as much damage with their autos anyway, so they may as well go for both types of pen so its harder for the enemy to counter build. (or counter rune)

also picked up by mixed damage jungle dealers like rammus, or shyv, it helps them out. i cant think of any others but im sure there are some.

Akali Theyre pretty good on many champs tho.

Hybrid pen reds are pretty ok on Fizz, Akali, and Nidalee, but they all benefit more from spell pen these days. It sounds pretty ok on Corki, but you'd be giving up flat AD reds, so last hitting early might be hard (unless you're used to playing AP Corki like me). You could make an argument for Hybrid Pen reds on some junglers. They work just fine on Gragas, so I'm sure they'll work for a bunch of other AP junglers too. Just remember to bring Attack Speed quints.

As for Lifesteal quints, they're only good if you're running 2+, preferably 3. They got nerfed a while ago, if you recall. They're still the staple quints on Yasuo, and you can use them for anybody with a Yasuo-type laning pattern if you want more sustain. They're pretty good on Fiora, especially mid. Off the top of my head, I'd say lifesteal quints would be good on Yasuo, Fiora, maybe Zed, and mayyyyyyybe Trynd (if your Q isn't doing enough work for you).

I like life steal on aatrox, and hybrid pen could work on kayle jax or eve

Maybe like, Kayle. Or Akali. Not many champions actually utilize them effectively.

Sona uses them pretty well since she AAs a lot due to her Q and passive.

Hybrid pen reds can be good on AP supports who do a lot of auto attack poke in the early laning phase, as this will help you win a lot of early trades bot lane, while still giving a large portion of the magic pen reds for later in the game. e.g. Annie, Morgana, Lulu, etc...

They are the most overall efficient runes. Work well on a handful of midlaners and most ap junglers. Champs with shorter animation windows on their autoattacks like Syndra can take advantage of them in early laning.

Hybrid pen marks are quite effective on-hit attack speed type champions, particularly ones without AD ratios. Use attack speed quints with these and maybe take both flat ad and ap offense masteries for early game power

Fizz item 3078 Teemo

Maybe a few caster full tanks like these hybrid pen marks too

Shen Sion DrMundo

And maybe on some powerful early game mage types. It's really not necessary to rune hybrid pen over full magic pen though. Your AA harass will only do so much and it does pull creep aggro which is a tradeoff limiting how much you can actually AA

Karma Annie Syndra

On some "hybrid" champions that have magic abilities who have ad ratios though you're probably better off with flat AD marks and AP quints.

Evelynn Corki Giving up AD marks hurts your laning too much.

if you are just starting and/or low on cash and you use both AD and AP champions, they are the runes you want

Professor Ward1 votes

they work well on a few champs hybrid pen marks> mag pen marks if youre going to be auto attacking somewhat effectively

I know it can be good for people like Sejuani Elise since all their abilities are magic damage but they also tend to auto attack a lot.
