The Real Problem with Matchmaking

When you're on a winstreak (5+), your MMR rises to up to 1-2 divisions higher than you. When you're on losing streak (5+), your MMR rises to up to 1-2 divisions lower than you.

If you get 5 wins, why boost your mmr from silver 2 to gold 5? that in turn matches you with people from anywhere from silver 1 to gold 3 or even gold 2.

that's an entire 5 tiers higher than you, and almost always far higher in skill than is even comparable. more knowledge of macro, better micro, etc.

meanwhile during a loss streak, you can get your mmr from silver 2 to silver 4. that in turn matches you with people from anywhere from silver 2 to bronze 2.

once again, the skill level is incomparable, except now you're the higher skilled one.

of course, nobody knows what their actual mmr is. op.gg can only give estimates. but the rise and fall of mmr in response to repeated wins is way too violent to be practical. the only people who can make use of this system as it currently is are people in high diamond or above.
