What if the sighstone was an object

An Urban Beetle (or other monster) flies arround in base every x minutes. One ally champion can capture it to recieve the "The True Eye"(or whatever name). The true eye is an trinket that will stack above your existing trinket similar to the Eye of the Herald. The True Eye will last for 3 minutes or until all charges are used.

So what is this True Eye thingy? Well:

#The True Eye - Trinket

  • Trinket last until 3 minutes or when all charges are used.
  • UNIQUE – WARDING: Consumes a charge to place a Stealth Ward at the target location (600 range), which reveals the surrounding area for 150 seconds. Holds 3 charges.
  • UNIQUE: Gains 10 movementspeed while out of combat

Yes it's the sightstone reworked into an object. This system allows for the following things:

The sightstone is now a team buff. Any of your teammates can obtain it by collecting the objective. However only one is avaiable add the same time (offcourse). Who get's the sighstone will become a strategy rather than the support it's duty. You will lose the ability to activate your trinket for the duration you have this buff after all.

Let's say you give the first one to your ally LeeSin to controle the early game. The 2th & 3th takes the support . The 4th one you give to your fed Jax that wants to splitpush and can use the vision to create pressure on the map. etc...

All of a sudden item 2049 item 2045 item 2303 item 2302 item 2301 are no longer required to be in the game. item 3098 item 3097 item 3096 now upgrade into items that provides vision on their unique way but with still a lot of combat power build into them. The best example for this would be item 3092 and I would suggest to introduce similar items like this:

  • T2 + Bambi's Cinder = Eternal Fire/Eternal Torch : Unique Active that let the Immolate Passive extends brushes & allows to damage wards that are inside of it or are revealed and burn champions for few seconds for x seconds. The ultimate tool to controle vision
  • T2 + Aegis of Legion = Divine Harp : Reveals targetted area, all enemies inside the area will recieve 5% more damage from allies

The items will have Trinket Cooldown or Item Cooldown reduction stats as well to futher boost their power. To compensate supports are no longer able to build starting (item 1056 item 1054 item 1055) or stack items (item 1082, item 1083) to prevent any abuse for sololaners that might be thinking to abuse this.

I like it

Generally, just something to shake up the vision game beyond warding and clearing would be useful. Plants and oracles are good, but something even more interesting and tied to support (via sightstone or support items)

It wouldn't change much to how the vision is placed. The sighstone will be still available. However now the job can be rotated arround teammates. We still have trinkets for personal vision and vision controle. We should look it like this:

  • Basic Trinket: Personal Vision Controle (like warding tri-brush, warding against an invade, warding against rotations from your counterpart)
  • Sightstone Trinket: Team Vision Controle (deep warding, defensive warding, placing vision resource into fed members, warding objectives)

It just seems like more a burden on a jungler than making sure teammates use proper vision, plus I bet it would be a buff to lee if he can gap close to the objective vision.

It's no different than back when jungle bought item 2049. Lee was always able todo that.

I also get the reponse that it will be difficult to controle vision in solo Q. It will be a big adjustment. For solo Q sake they should just give it to the support. It's like giving blue buff over to the midlaner or giving red to the adc. But honnestly I don't think this will be a problem:

  • In lower brackets the vision controle is a lot less powerfull. It doesn't really hurt the support that much anymore if that teemo is claiming the buff for himself. The support would just rush his vision item and still controle enouge vision to make plays (stat wise he will be a lot stronger). In higher bracket players will known what they are doing so they will give the buff to their support or jungler in most of the situations. In both cases it won't change a lot for the support. He still has a better trinket and more room for controle wards.

I chuckled about Bambi's Cinder.

Honestly, I have no problem with gold items upgrading to sightstones. They still provide stats and their missions rewards, I never felt that these are a nuisance.

Bambi's Cinder is actually not that bad on tank supports. In it's pre-reworked (not the pre-nerfed state) it was build very often on champions like Leona. It provided some waveclear what was great in combination with item 3302 and siege items like item 3512. Back in the old days it was also the only (not counting the useless item 3056) HP/AR item available for supports. Another common strategy that was used is to pull turret agro in a solo Q environment. And it was actually a valid strategy in competive to reliable dive with item 3151 users on the team.

So no, I don't think Bambi's Cinder would be that far-fetched. The original plan was to use item 3801 but Bambi's seems to forfill the job just fine.

They are not, it's more regarding the playstyle every style of supports need to be playing. Let's take invading into enemy territory as an example (areas that are under enemy controle). Useally the champion with:

  • The most tank stats (reduce the chance to get burst down, target that takes the longest time to kill)
  • The lowest damage output (the impact for losing him)
  • Lowest bounty (how much can the enemy collect from him)
  • The most mobilty (reduce the chance on getting chased down)

But that's not really a factor in the design when the support always has the sightstone. When you have a squishy support you are placed into a hugh disadvantage and it would require a teammates (useally the jungler or toplaner) to follow into your quest of placing that vision. The fact that the sightstone gives you health is only proof of that. Basicly a lot of resources have to be used because of this static resource that we call vision.

The item 3504 meta was really what opened my eyes reguarding this issue. Ganks happens less frequently because the lack of vision controle, roams happend less frequestly because lack of vision controle, invades happend less frequently because lack of vision controle. The ardent meta would never been that problematic if vision controle was available. The jungle could gank, mid could roam and top could follow-up with tp. Basicly in higher brackets they would be able to fight back against a fed botlane. That was how much impact their was in higher brackets with the delay of that Sightstone.

I think your idea is rough but it's heading in an interesting direction. It kind of solves the "someone has to buy sightstone" problem. Also more unique and skillful warding items that aren't simply "3-4 ward charges" would be very welcome.

I think with this system we already hit a limit as far how complex we can go to resolve an issue. It's nice to have some mechanics and marcro play arround vision but if it start to take away the combat experience we start to have an problem. So a rough approach would probally be the only suitable solution to maintain the ballance between vision & combat. Introducing vision items that allows to mechanically to controle vision and a vision buff trinket to controle vision on a marcro level.

Letting the object spawn in base looks like a strange idea. And I understand the "rough" term. However riot did it before (like with Corki passive). Originally I wanted to place the object in the jungle or botlane. But than I realised the base is the only suitable location to prevent snowballing from this element since vision is needed to contest areas but how can you contest this when the tool that it needed to take them back is under enemies controle.

As far the vision items themself (so the mechanical side) can be expanded by a great margin. I never went into much detail regarding this one. The form of the idea hasn't fully shaped yet. In one version of the idea for example:

  • All 3 support items will provide 10% cdr in their line:
    • item 3301 (5%) item 3096 (10%) - like how it is now
    • item 3303 (0%) item 3098 (10%) - like how it is now
    • item 3302 (0%) item 3097 (0%) - [tier 3's] (10%) - basicly the item will gain 10% cdr upon reaching it's tier 3 form

With a foundation of 10% cdr every support item can build into any vision item. So:

  • Frost Queen: " item 3096 + item 1026 " or " item 3098 + item 1026 " or " item 3097 + item 1026 "
  • Eternal Torch: " item 3096 + item 3751 " or " item 3098 + item 3751 " or " item 3097 + item 3751 "
  • Divine Harp: " item 3096 + item 3105 " or " item 3098 + item 3105 " or " item 3097 + item 3105 "

This allows the support to decide twee things:

  • Their lane playstyle
  • Their vision playstyle

More vision items can possible be introduced later on the line but this will be it's core.
