Refining the Damage Taken Stat

So I really like the damage taken stat for tanks but it doesn't tell the whole story. if you took 10,000 damage but died ten times or took 10,000 damage but didn't die at all, which player played better? So what if there was a damage per life stat?

In this instance, it would obviously be the person who didn't die. But someone who took 20,000 damage but died 3 times, and someone who 16,000 but died once, who did better? It would also depend on whether the person was a squishy, or a tank. A squishy who took 20,000 damage but died 3 times, and a tank who took 16,000 but died once, the tank did better, as they would of mitigated more damage due to their defenses, while the squishy(MasterYi being a squishy who would run in repeatedly) may have ran in repeatedly and was saved by a Soraka or something a few times.
