Does Varus Need More?

I just got Varus so I'm no expert, but I feel he needs some love. For being an immobile ADC, he needs either more CC or more damage. For example, I don't see a reason to pick him over Jinx. Her E is a mini Varus ult. on a lower CD, her W has a great slow as well as high damage, her AoE is much stronger with some items and maxed Fishbones, she can be effective from higher range, her global ult. does a lot more damage than his, her passive is far more useful in TFs etc. Ashe falls into a similar category, offering higher range than him, a better ult. imo. (stun, long-range), and better CC/utility (E, endless slows). He has decent poke but not on the level of Corki or Ezreal. His burst also isn't quite Corki, Lucian or Graves level and his AoE isn't as strong as MF's either. His scaling is average at best too. A late game Twitch, Tristana, Vayne, Kog etc. all offer far more.

Basically, what niche is he supposed to fill to ever make him a superior choice to other ADCs? I understand you don't want the same ADC in every team comp. but I can't think of any comps. where I'd want Varus over others. Most ADCs tend to have some sort of identity that makes them best in certain scenarios. Kog is best as an artillery cannon with protection. Twitch is best for stealth assassination and clumped team fights. Ezreal is the most slippery and offer a ton of poke. Sivir is the one who can offer great engages/disengages while countering key abilities with spell shield. Cork offers great burst, poke and synergy with AD mids due to armor shred. I don't see what Varus's niche is supposed to be. He's not terrible but he doesn't seem to excel at anything in particular.

I'm a big fan of AP Kog, although I think he is struggling a little) in this assassin mid meta. I was just thinking that AP Varus sounds almost viable. If his Q and E also had some modest AP ratio like .3-.5, it could actually work and that's basically adding a new champ to LoL. It would be a lot of fun to have 2 styles just like for Kog. Anyone else excited by this idea?

this^ I would love to roll an AP varus, it works with a nashor's and wits end, but I would like a less item dependant AP varus.

AP varus is great, tried him awhile back, just have to get 3 stacks of blight then you'll see your abilities doing some hefty damage. Max W first, take your Q or your E to proc your blight stacks. At level 5 W it does about 50% of the enemies health as magic damage (before resistances).

http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/OI376sU6-el-seaor-varus Here's my thought on Varus.

And what can tell is that, you've noticed just like I did his ULT can be easily compared to others. and his skills have strange matchups. As of now I run this build onto him. item 3035 item 3087 item 3252 item 3153 item 3072 and the last item if : too tanky item 3071 if they have strong ap mage or engage item 3102

Why wouldn't you get IE? Your late game without it would seem very lackluster.

IE is only 250%. As a varus player, it feels very unnecessary since your damage comes off your abilities. AND you don't deal true damage like any other adc. Bork gives him the necessary atk speed along with mobility. Stacking lifesteal for longer fights than having to use IE, because most of the time you'll spend your time using your abilities than using your auto attacks. And even then, removing BT for IE can be an optional choice. I Rather stack lifesteal for something someone will tank anyways and you can also get a Vayne effect with Bork & BT(Healing 4 days).

lol I just went 2-17 AP Varus bot. I don't think it works yet haha.

If Q & E got some modest AP ratios, it would also give AD Varus more flexibility. TF could become the item of choice to try and win mid game.

'just' 600? You know That Ashe has the second highest default aa range, right? Likewise, Varus has the 3rd highest base aa range with 575. I don't think that's really his issue.

Maybe they make his R and W stacks shred MR a bit, so he could be an adc you bring if you the rest of your team is a little too ap. Just a random thought. Edit: Would also help AP Varus a bit, pew pew?

My personal favorite idea. His ult is okay, but is spreads so slow for the fast paced teamfights we have, sometimes it seems only good for one target. I can't say for sure, but at the moment it seems like 2.5 or 3 seconds for it to spread to another person, but maybe I get confused by LoL time. If it were to spread like 1 sec after hitting the first, so someone else is affected pretty much right as the first ends, or around .5 sec after, I think that alone would be enough to make him viable, maybe even competitively.

He's a lane bully. You take him to put the enemy carry too far behind to be very useful, and then you close the game before they can farm back up. At least, that's how I see him.

varus is just not in the meta so people don't see him as good he is amazing

lol varus is completly fine. y the the hell to people think that every adc without mobility is bad. If Varus is bad then ashe, jinx, vayne, and sivir suk too

Varus is pretty strong he just needs something done with his passive to either make it easier to translate 1 kill into multiple or just a total revamp. If they added some lifesteal to his passive it would be pretty sick to see him get the attack speed and life steal steroids and watch him to serious work in a teamfight.

His passive is dragging him down. He is designed really well for a sort of skirmishing utility ADC who then all-ins with AOE CC and considerable burst. His passive is weak even when the stronger steroid is active, and additionally only activates once he has already killed something, meaning it is totally useless for him until he is already winning a fight.

His current blight passive should be reallocated to his normal passive, something along the lines of this: Passive, Blighted quiver: damaging opponents with a basic attack applies a stack of blighted quiver to the target for 6 seconds (max three stacks). If Varus damages the marked enemy with an ability he pops the stacks to deal bonus magic damage equal to 2/2.75/3.5/4.25/5%+(2% per 100 AP) of the target's max health per stack (same as live value for W).

Then give him a new W to compensate for moving the stacks to his passive. I would imagine something that rewards him for using his passive well would be the best. W, Living vengeance: passive: killing an enemy minion or procing passive stacks on enemy champions grants a 15/20/25/30/35% AS buff for 6 seconds; also grants on hit magic damage equal to 10/14/18/22/26+(25% AP) (not connected to triggering the passive). Active: for the next 6 seconds Procing the passive stacks or killing a minion gives double the AS buff (30/40/50/60/70) and increases the damage blight stacks deal by 50% (3/4.125/5.25/6.375/7.5%+(3% per 100 AP) of the target's max health per stack).

That would be all he needs in my opinion, since it increases the reward for utilizing Blight stacks while also giving him a useful AS buff that he can access before having killed somebody.

I think Varus was meant to be a lane bully and mid game carry but Corki/Graves have overtaken him even in those areas.
