What If Doran’s Shield Granted a Shield?

Doran’s Shield has a passive that procs after being damaged by an enemy champion. It restores flat health over a short period, in addition to the flat health regeneration built into the item. This effect is balanced, but regeneration is hidden power that cannot be played around, and this kind is good early but falls off late.

What if, instead of this additional regeneration, Doran’s Shield granted a small but scaling shield after your champion had not taken damage for a moderate time? This new passive would become visible to the opponent, improving clarity, and also offer the counterplay of constant poke. It would also let the item scale by protecting against later poke or all-in’s. Here are some numbers.

New Passive: Raised Shield After not taking damage from enemy champions for twelve seconds, gain a shield for 5% Maximum Health.

Doran's Shield doesn't actually have a cooldown; the timer you see ticking down is the reactive regen that you gain from taking damage. It gives you a bit of flat health regen, plus additional regen whenever you take damage that scales with missing health.

It'd be interesting if with your idea, they made it an orange shield, which we currently only see in Camille's passive. It would block physical damage only, making it good for fighting against another marksman or an AD burst assassin, but wouldn't be as effective against everybody.

Ahhh, let me correct that, then. We need it to counter magic damage, or else Teemo would become top tier.

Pretty much. However, you get the shield only by avoiding damage, which counters the shield if applied constantly. Remember also that Doran’s Shield’s current passive offers this gameplay:

  1. Trade Damage
  2. Wait for Regen
  3. Trade Damage
  4. Wait for Regen
  5. Profit?

Doran’s Shield’s numbers can’t be good because of how reliable and safe it can make laning when viable.

(and this kind is good early but falls off late)

dorans items are meant to fall off late its just gold effective that you sell once you dont have space

Doran’s Blade scales pretty well for basic attackers, and Doran’s Ring is still decent mid-game. Doran’s Shield, however, just falls off a cliff.

item 1055 only have a little life steal that barely scale and so is item 1056

ya they scale a little better then shield but they all fall in the late game

shield advantage over the other 2 is being much safer sustain in the early game so i really dont think it need a change imo as its fair atm
