Shyvana is a strong champion, but her passive still seems pretty underwhelming.

Compared to other passives in the game this one just feels terrible. 5 + 5 resistances per dragon? So let's look at this from a gold perspective. 40 armor is 800 gold. 40 MR is 720 gold. So 1 armor = 20 gold, 1 MR = 18 gold. Which means Shyvana gains (18 * 5 ) + (20 * 5) = 190 gold of bonus per dragon. What? So if your team coordinates PERFECTLY, and gets four dragons, the best you get is 190 * 5 = 950 gold. If you're in Dragon form 20% of the game (a large overestimate in my opinion), you get a bonus (950 / 5) gold. So technically it's 950 + 190 = 1140 gold. This is at MAXIMUM, assuming your team got FOUR dragons, which is unlikely.

I'm going to say the average gold gain is around **700 **if you get two dragons.

700 gold is not much. Compare it to someone like Jax's passive, also a mobile dueler, who gains up to 96% attack speed, which is 2400 gold, not to mention it's much easier to stack 8 attacks than 4 dragons.

Also the bonus resistance seems somewhat useless while fighting. You don't notice anything special when you gain 20-40 armor and MR and you already have 100 of each; that's only like a 6-7% damage reduction AT MOST (again assuming you have 4 dragons.)

So even if you have to nerf Shyvana's numbers a little bit, can we please see a better passive for a duelist? It can still have to do with dragons, like Shyvana burns enemies with the mark of the dragon. Every third autoattack or tick of Burnout will deal a bonus (50% AD) true damage per second for 3 seconds. This damage is increased by (10/15/20% AD) for every dragon slain. Elder dragon will double the effect.

That's just an example; don't judge the post based on that just take into account how Shyvana's passive feels worthless in play and doesn't offer much.

I'm going to piggyback on your post, if you don't mind.

In addition to those, being primarily a Twisted Treeline player, Vilemaw does not equate to Dragons. Some games its not taken at all, some its taken at most, 2 times. Which can vary based on which team gets it. I don't see that as a passive that is at all useful for Shyvana in TT. Unless...maybe a rework is in line for TT? XD

So be the team that actually takes it. She is fine on that map.

Oh stellar remark. I'm not saying she's bad on any map, what I'm remarking on is the lackluster change to her passive. Target that more, and I'll agree with you. 2-3 people disappearing on TT is a warrant for any Vilemaw check. Anyways, give some actual feedback and we'll talk more.

You can actually get 5 elemental drakes if you get them quick enough. Elder dragons also count towards her passive count, so theoretically there's no cap to how many you can get. I'd say two or three is probably a reasonable average, and while I agree it's not really very fun and kinda underwhelming on it's own, if they gave her a stronger passive too she'd be absolutely busted.

I don't really see what the big deal is.

remember last week though when every shyv player was complaining she'd been nerfed?

Anags1 votes

That was just the players who have no idea what they were talking about. They frequent this place.

I'm also not sure why you want a champ to have a strong passive. Be happy she doesn't need her passive to do her job and it's just icing on the cake.

They made her dragon form awesome. How can you possibly complain about anything now.

EROTIC RAID BOSS1 votes

yeah that was the subtext of my post. I don't really respect many posters on here, this place is full of crybabies who don't know a thing about game balance

I think she is strong, despite the passive - not sure she really needs compensation from a buff to her passive atm.

I quite sure farmheavy champions have their passives toned down for balance issues.

The passive is supposed to be kinda weak. Riot works with a system they call "power budget", each skill (and the passive) of a champion's kit has a specific ammount of power attached to it. Every champion is allowed to have x power. Since they shifted alot of power to her ultimate (making it unstoppable), they had to remove power from her kit. The passive has to be weak, because the rest of her kit is consuming the biggest part of her power budget.

If you want her passive to be stronger, Shyvana has to be nerfed when it comes to her skills. Additional to the upcoming nerfs for her, of course, because Shyvana already is way too strong at the moment.

A strong champion can have a weak passive and that's perfectly okay. You know how KogMaw had arguably the worst passive in the game while still being the strongest ADC during last season? It's okay, I'd rather they balance champions kits as a whole instead of one ability at a time.

Think Chogath his Q might be one of the strongest abilities in league, yet his W is the longest silence left in the game on an AoE, extremely strong, and his R might well be THE best objective securing ability while also giving him scaling. Yet he is very much an underwhelming champion in the current meta, it's all about kit cohesion.

you underestimate that +10% to dragons

Emerald Fang1 votes

But face it, how useful is that and is it ever going to make a noticeable difference besides maybe being able to solo it slightly earlier than usual?

you have a chance to take the drake faster than the other team can react

Emerald Fang1 votes

Seems unlikely but I guess I can see it. It still barely adds maybe 100-200, MAYBE 300 gold if your team actually cares about drakes.

what

drakes give permanent boosts to stuff, to damage, to damage to towers, to regen, to out of combat ms

Emerald Fang1 votes

Yeah but if you multiply that by the percentage of times where the 10% is the difference between getting the dragon or not? Very few.

not really... imo fast dragons before the enemy team can react are not uncommon

At least u have a passive revelant for jungle job... Look my MonkeyKing [zombie-brand-mindblown]

And I hate how it's a win-more passive. You got 3 dragons in a row? You are going to steamroll through your enemy, with or without those 15 bonus resistance. You got zero? Now you have no passive.

Yes, Shyv is strong. But this passive is extremely bland and "win-more".

Which is HILARIOUS because when I pointed out how gimmicky and stupid her new Passive was going to be, people blasted me because her old Passive was bland and boring.

Ulquiorra9951 votes

Yes, it was bland and boring. But at the very least it was consistent. New passive is bland AND barely makes a difference in vast majority of cases.

One of the more solid Passives in the game, really. Boring and uninspired, mayhaps, but solid.

I'd take it over this gimmicky dragon garbage any day of the week.

WoonStruck1 votes

Faulty math, and if Shyv had a stronger passive, it, or another part of her kit, would be promptly gutted.

Emerald Fang1 votes

How is it faulty?

Profirix1 votes

Do neutral monsters count as 'monsters' for the sake of the nerf coming down the pipeline? If so, Riot basically just gave Shyvana 10% extra damage to dragons only to take 20% away from her bread-and-butter damage ability.

Emerald Fang1 votes

What nerf is coming? Haven't heard this.

Profirix1 votes

The removal of the +20% damage to monsters on her Burnout.

Emerald Fang1 votes

WHY DO THEY NERF THIS PERSON! Now it's going to make clearing krugs so much more difficult at level 2.
