Discussion: Sona Top

Weird idea that popped into my head.

So, I used to do a lot of Sona on Twisted Treeline, and she was fairly good.

Which caused a random thought to enter my head earlier: Sona Toplane.

Looking at it from a pro/con perspective...

Pros: Safe poke Buffs and heals to help with ganks Fairly nice AA animation for easy farming Transitions into awesome utility/damage lategame Heal and Ult punish all-ins and allow you to escape consistently.

Cons: Could very easily sacrifice your teams tank by existing Still very squishy, making her susceptible to ganks Reliant on potions early-game, meaning she'll need to B often against an aggressive opponent Lacks waveclear

Seems to me she could work if played right.

Well, unless you went against someone who's very and constantly agressive, it's very, very easy for Sona to poke someone into oblivion while safely farming. Playing safe until your opponent is too low to go in is how sona is played, i can see it work.

bad her base stats and sustained damage are too weak to fight back against all-ins, and her escape ability is too weak to avoid them

I say wait for the Runeblade Enchant to come out, and take Smite with Sona top (or mid).

Sounds crazy? Kinda is, but hear me out.

Smite means better waveclear, if you get Ranger's Trailblazer, you can farm ten times more efficiently, you can also use it to dismiss a minion wave before going all-in and reducing minion damage. If you get Skirmisher's Sabre, you can cut to shreds most of anyone's all-in with it's Smite effect combined with your W and W Powerchord.

And then Runeblade. Not only is it built out of Sheen which is Sona's early game best friend, but it's the one thing that'll allow Sona to farm efficiently on her own. The AoE damage on Spellblade means easier harass, but hear this; after you get Runeblade, you can then build Lich's Bane, because the stronger single target damage of Lich's Spellblade will take priority on Runeblade's, while still letting Runeblade's own AoE damage proc. Best of both worlds.

And then, you have the CDR, mana, which are always great on Sona, and the mana regen effect on Runeblade's Spellblade. Low on mana? You can always take a moment to let your opponent get out of turret and go hit a monster in the jungle for the 6% mana back. It's ONLY drawback is it's 40AP, which is low (and i think it'll be buffed before it's released, but we'll see). I usually build Rod of Ages as my primary 'sustain' item, and it just happens to buff that 6%'s value by a whole bunch, but that's up to yeh.
