Any Advice against dealing with Riven?

Now I can deal with alot of champions when I am in any position (except for jungle, I can never fully get a handle on it, but that's for another story). But for some reason I have trouble dealing with Riven, scratch that, I don't have trouble, I practically lose my lane if I am against Riven or if she is jungling. I could be the burstiest mage or the tankiest fighter but my arse is still served on a silver plater by the hopping combo killer. And listening to the "Counter Strategies" on the LoL wiki is well... Not helpful really.

So... Any advice (preferably ones that doesn't contain that much sarcasm)?

Play Garen or Renekton. Honestly, that's how I beat Riven every time.

Riven excells against squishy champions, but typically struggles against early game bruisers (think champions that are both tanky and hit hard, like Renekton/Garen)

Um, don't even go near her before you are lvl 6. She is so strong early because she has no resource, so she has no need to have management of spells. After 6, try to engage on her. Some strong counters are Irelia, Renekton, Nasus. They are all tank with the ability to do damage. She is also quite mobile, with a small dash, a jump, and 2 smaller dashes forward. Try to only go in when you are POSITIVE of a kill. Trust me, I used to think Riven was the most OP champ in the game. But all you need to to is wait for her to Q(knock up) some minions, and then go in. You basically win the trade.

Well, it really depends heavily on the matchup...

depending on the Champ you paly you should just respect her strenght (especially the lvl 2 all in and the lvl 6 spike), play defensive and try to outclash her mid/late, which is farily doable if she´s not fed.

Champs that really work wonders against her:

Quinn: no chance in hell for Riven, just e her 3rd q and watch her suffer, as she won´t ever reach you once if you´re used to the matchup. (AP-)Alistar: just harass her away (preferable while she tries to lasthit) with w and if she tries (desperate) to all in q her and walk away while your minions win the trade for you. Darius: just don´t overplay your hand early, but once you have a little dmg and some defense to not get bursted you´re golden Garen: a silenced Riven is just a dead Riven pretty fast (just beware, if she runs ignite she can kill you lvl 2). Lulu: don´t try to kill her, just make her suffer (and cry for her jungler)

Gangplank can cheese riven early if you max oranges first and get exhaust summoner spell. Most rivens will be over-confident and think they can get an easy kill against GP. GP is deceptively dangerous in the early levels.

Warden's mail or any other armour and cc counters Riven. Recently played Thresh top lane and destroyed her. All you have to do is flay when she begins her broken wings. In short anyone with range can punish her try using Gnar or Ryze and hopefully you can have an easier time against her.
