Now, I like Swain, I think that his skills set is neat to play with, but one thing that always bugged me is his ultimate, you know... Where he transforms into a giant bird demon. But nothing, at least from what I can find, explains how he is able to pull this off, or where he got this ability from, unless he is pulling of a fusion dance with the raven on his shoulders in a millisecond, but that is just stretching it a bit in my opinion.
Swain's Lore is super vague, but describes him as going off on a mission as a scout, going MIA, and coming back later, sans one leg, but apparently in no pain, with a raven firmly attached to his shoulder.
There are a couple of theories on this. The most common you'll see in fanfics and such is that the raven is like a demon or something he made a deal with to save his life (You know, losing an entire leg isn't usually something you just casually walk (heh) off). Beatrice doesn't really look...normal, either.
There's also this really old theory from the Ye Olde days of the Lore Discussion board, where some people think that Swain isn't Swain at all, that he did die when he lost his leg, and that the bird is controlling the body like a puppet.
So, really, we don't know. But there are some interesting angles it could take.

Well they might just change the lore when they think of something "better" for him, and then explain it. Like Ez, Siv, and the rest of them that got changed.
Well, since Riot no longer correlates game play and story apparently, maybe he actually doesn't have that power.

Swain never lost his leg....he broke his leg...He has a leg still it just never fully healed because he told the doctor "whatever bro I aint even mad, just slap a piece of wood on this bitch and i'll GTFO"....not in those words....but if you are referring to his Pirate Skin where he has a peg leg then yes he is partially missing a leg but otherwise he has both legs...He limps because he has a cane to help him walk. Think about it this way if you broke your leg, didn't have proper medical treatment on it to help it heal, its gonna heal bad, and you aren't going to walk correctly.
What if the bird took over Swains body and turned Swain into a bird? So many twists that could be taken.
