Wait whoa, a year? A...Wait, lemme catch myself here.

I've been on the Internet 21 years, starting from the time I was 6 on a 266 Mhz computer with Win 3.1, using dial-up and AOL. Whoa. It's seriously easy to forget that there are still people joining the 'net.

I mean, I know what 1337 means, which is an exceptionally old joke about leet-speak, or 1337-speak. Like, if you type numbers that look like the letters instead of the numbers. People still do it all the time, of course, and don't know what they're doing is leet-speak. It was mostly a stylistic thing, though I think it has its origins in old-school C++ or Visual Basic coders communicating with each other.

I'm seriously wondering what it must be like to just be joining the Internet. It's so much...bigger now, and everyone's using it, so it's not quite like the extremely-heavily-moderated-and-exclusive club it used to be (AOL, and many old forums, would ban you from their chatrooms for saying anything even hinting at flaming). That's not trolling, it's just sort of overwhelming how much it's changed in the decades I've been on it.
