Seriously, they used to go head to head or kahz for early to mid game and rengar being the mid game to late game or who ever saw who first. Now it's just rengar, Khaz was supposed to be this fierce alien to be a challenge for rengar but there is no contest, rengar takes the trophy. ;)

The problem is not that Kha is squishy, is that he doens't scale as well as he should and his burst is too conditional.
However Kha'Zix has so much potential to be changed into a late game assassin just like 
is a late game tank, 
is a late game mage, 
is a late game fighter, 
is a late game ADC... We have Kassasin as a late game assassin, but currently it is too hard to get into late game with him, and Kha'Zix could have some differences from Kassadin, the differences being invisibility, resets, and being AD instead of AP.

the two even have a special event where one or the other can become very powerful should they kill the other enough times
rengar gains a special trinket that looks like a shrunken khazix head and khazix...I don't remember what his does

Why do you keep complaining about the E like it's actually an issue? Do you know how quickly 6 stacks go by when there is another champion next to you? Or 2? Or 4 if you went to botlane?

Kass doesn't need to be a better champion than Nid, he just needs to be stronger in certain areas. Given he has a channel interrupt, a powerful slow, more mobility after a certain point and reliable initiation (doesn't need to land a skillshot to go in), there's more than enough to differentiate the two.

Kassadin has no powerspikes until about 35 minutes into the game, so until lategame, and I wouldn't really call a "powerspike" the ability to do his god damn job, he's utter trash without full items because of his low base damage

NoMonku1 votesYou have it wrong. Kha is supposed to be the better late game carry where as rengar is the early game monster that snowballs out of control. Kha's buffs before his nerfs just made him an early game monster that made it almost impossible for rengar to compete. They were also very OP, which is why he got nerfed. Kha still works the way he was supposed to be intended to, he just isn't as strong as he once was.

To be fair if khaz gets just slightly ahead he can snowball pretty well even vs Rengar, but right now its the trade off of late game bug vs early game cat. Early game pressure tends to be the best way to win league games imo so rengar usually ends up being the better pick

More like Rengar is too strong in general. He has all the same problems old Eve had. He forces passive play because of his ability to instantly 100-0 people with no warning -- lets not pretend the exclamation point actually does anything when his jump range from stealth is basically that long. He is an incredibly problematic champion and it's kind of baffling that RIot has allowed him to exist like this for so long.
