Poppys Passive feels kinda bad imo (not weak per say, but just a little unsatisfied)

I just did a bot game with her (bot games aren't the best way to judge i know). when ever i picked up my buckler i expected it to be ready to throw again(no big deal, offers counterplay). But i really feel like if Poppy kills a target with her passive, since it bounces back to her, that maybe it should reset the cooldown on her passive.

I always thought that it's cool down should be reduced by, say, 25% if you picked it up and halved if it kills a unit. Or make it reduced by CDR (down to a 10.8/8.4/6 second cool down).

or something like that yeah.

I played her top against an Olaf and it was... special. We were like a pair of 5 year olds having tantrums- each of us would throw our toy at the other's head, then run right past each other to pick it up

I would have paid to see that.

I charged it up mostly, and idk about the body because i forgot to remove my team fire icon lol

I personally think if you pick it up it is halved and if you kill it is reset, BOOM fixed

Sire Hippington1 votes

not really fixed, as a 15% maxhealth shield with reset would be pretty bonkers. But together with an adjusted shieldvalue, it probably would feel better.

personally it should be more on lines of 7-15% scaling with level

I feel like poppy should have had something that was closer to a Skarner passive or Nautilus that offered a small cc every now and then.

Still gotta love new poppy ult.

i was using ult to execute the bots XD. i mean, i really dont have a need to use it for much else against them

So do you instant tap it or charge it up? Does it send the corpse flying or do they die on the spot. Still at work so I haven't seen this yet.

How can they change her passive from the best to the worst? Or did i not get the gamebreaking idea behind that passive? Why do you get ap? also the cd is too long, and if you chase enemies you cant pick it up. So useless

I don't know, a 15% shield on a tank if you pick the buckler up sounds pretty good to me, thinking even that in lane phase you can instantly have it without picking up simply by using it to lasthit a minion, where do you see the uselessness?

Drakesob1 votes

Most of the time you are completely out of position if you pick up your buckler and perhaps also get harassed in laningphase. While teamfighting it's not easy to pick it up if you are supposed to shield and peel for your teammates (even finding it xD). -Passive is useless if you dont play tank -Passive is not easy to use if you play tank And why the ap buff? I really try to find the good things in that passive and i really love poppy. I mained her in the earlier seasons and ranked up to gold with only using her but i find that new passive quiet disturbing..

Well ok, that's just for laningphase Passive is okeeeeey in the jungle

DeathBurst1 votes

But what AP buff are you talking about?

And in laning phase, the right thing to do is: last hit a minion with the passive, then use the 4-second shield to trade OR sling the passive at your opponent to poke him down, but don't try to pick-up the buckler. Because otherwise, you said it yourself, you are out of position.

I feel the same, but they would probably make it weaker (less damage, less %hp shield, smaller range) if they added that kind of cooldown refund.

sreggad1 votes

honestly there are more champions that do more damage with the passive wiith better secondary effects than what poppy has now with a much lower cooldown. I'm glad they made it weaker and can buff it up instead of making it broken and having to nerf it. The shield and damage isn't crazy and it requires her to go pick it up or kill something with it. so a cooldown on pick up to allow it more frequent would help the early levels and not change too much at the higher levels due to the need to pick it up.

well she feels unsatisfying in general tbh her dmg is nothing compared to before and her mana problems are almost as bad as before the q dmg sucks and the ult isnt as gamebreaking as i thought it would be also her w should be more like jayce's in hammer form meh they could do more with the passive (like decreasing the cd when you kill something) and also increase the base dmg from her q a bit (not the max health dmg just the base)

KarKzz1 votes

she feel unrewarding. She is basicaly an AD gragas that needs a wall to get his stun. She is a "W bot", but graggy can stop dash with his E to ! If there is no wall, you have no damage, and no cc. She went from a carry-diver, to a 2nd support. She LOOKS like a fighter, but in reality, she will be picked only as a full tank to disengage, and stop dashes.

Old poppy had a toxic kit, and i'm glad it's gone. But it was fun to play (well only for the poppy's player, that why it was toxic)

sreggad1 votes

really just halving the cooldown when she picks it up is all that's needed.

It helps with jgl a bit...

Honestly it is the unreliability of the passive that really ruins it for me. That thing pings off in the most random ways and more often then not whether I get to use the shield part of my passive is entirely reliant on whether the passive lands anywhere near me.

Personally if there was a way to make it work similar to Draven axes or something would be better.

ironwok1 votes

The shield is super ADD to your objective. Its a total distraction. and as for the ult, cool, but not exactly good.

Strawberrycocoa1 votes

I dunno, the resourceless shield can be a life saver, plus having some ranged harass is helpful. If she could reset the coodown by picking it up, wouldn't she basically just be a ranged champion at that point? Throw, pick up, shield against damage, repeat infinitely because the cooldown resets.

she feels weaker than she was before in all manners imho. this coming from someone that absolutely loved playing poppy but i'd almost never take her top lane because of her horrendous mana problems and incredibly terrible laning phase. that being said, riot didn't fix anything that was really bad about her and took away all of her good things. dear rito, no one who actually played poppy ever wanted her to be a full tank. the worst thing about her was the mechanics on her E. not her fucking Q damage or her ultimate. her ultimate had counterplay unless you're in bronze 5 elo. i just don't understand why you would take a champion that had hypercarry potential and turn her into a full tank and make her less useful than all the other tanks on the game. compare poppy to shen when it comes to CC, utility and lane presence. not even a comparison. this rework is bad, imho.

Kitten of Evil1 votes

Yeah it's kind of disappointing in current form. It does less damage, procs fewer times, has less CC, and refreshes less often than Bard's meeps. How sad is that?

1374341 votes

Well Bard also only has one ability that actually hurts you + 2 that actually CC's you (Q sometimes, R), where as all of Poppy's abilities provide a source of damage in addition to the passive and 3ish have CC (E sometimes, R, kinda on W). So in other words you can't really compare champion's passives and then complain about the power of one versus the other.

Kitten of Evil1 votes

Yes, the two are different, but if you want other comparisons: J4 does 10% of current HP on first hit (10/8/6 cooldown on-target) MF does 60%-100% AD bonus on first hit (no cooldown) Naut does 8-110 bonus damage but roots enemy (9/8/7/6 cooldown on-target) Bard does 30+ scaling damage, slows (with at least 5 chimes), and can hold 1+ scaling number of meeps (8/7/6/5/4 refresh timer)

Poppy's passive cooldown is by far the longest, but it isn't so much stronger than the others to justify that. The best comparisons are probably to Naut and J4, but both of those can be triggered on multiple enemies, aren't consumed by attacking minions (they are ALWAYS up when first hitting a champion) and have basically half of Poppy's cooldown.

Spoofghoul1 votes

Passive is just meh and not all that thought out.

They could have given poppy a shield after x seconds but upon throwing her buckler she loses shield have it reduce cooldown when she picks up buckler

Also if your shield breaks you cant throw the damn thing.

Also only have it thrown if target is out of melee range.

This way you can use the shield after you engage with heroic charge or use a ranged auto if you just want to harass.

Harrada1 votes

In my opinion her Passive is crap. Would be better if you didnt have to play a stupid ass minigame to pick it up. So my positioning mid-teamfight is dictated by the RNG of wherever my shield lands? That or I just dont make use of half my passive.

In my opinion they should either remove the part where she has to pick the shield up or give her the old passive back. Poppy's old passive was really unique and they ended up reworking her into a sub-par tank anyway, so why take away the best part about poppy in terms of survivability? (aside from her ult, that is.)
