Reading through some more threads about the fall of league and DQ and I realized,

Embertine··44 votes·2,563 views

I realized that with all the people whom are calling the boards members vocal minorities, that they are in fact just vocal minorities of the vocal minority group.

I mean with something like 30 or 36 million players, yeah the few thousand of us on the boards are but a minority. But there are so many more of this minority speaking out against Dynamic Queue, than there are of the extremely fewer minority of people whom are defending it.

This tells me two things.

One, that with millions of players not speaking out in either case, that the actual majority of players don't really care about Dynamic at all, and just like to play the game, go to cons, and root for LCS teams.

Two, that there are in fact a much greater amount of people that want Dynamic gone, than there are of people whom want it to stay.

The vocal minority has a vocal minority basically.

Am I defending Dynamic Queue? No, because it is painfully obvious that it has caused problems, and that it isn't performing as it was intended to.

Am I against Dynamic Queue? When it comes to going up against premades, yes.

While I am a solo player, and I more than fully realize that the mistakes I make are what keep me from climbing up, It is frustrating to know that Riot has purposely set it up so that premades are matched up against solos on purpose, and that the more premades on a team, the more the game searches out higher skilled solos to match them against.

It makes no sense for me to get my mmr up by doing well and winning 5 matches in a row, get promoted, and then the game searches my slightly higher mmr out to match me against premade teams, of which have much better communication and coordination then my team, and then for the next three to five matches I lose against premades and get demoted back down. All just because I was doing well on my own.

To me this is the system punishing the player for succeeding and isn't right.

Yes I know that my teams also get premades in them, but most often they will have less premades than the opposing team, because I'm a solo player picked solely to fill in the gaps and offer a little more challenge for the enemy premades.

And before anyone goes on about my rank, premades are effecting every elo, not just the higher ups.

Everything I've said here is based on personal experience and what Riot has stated.

Solo Queue had no problems at all, and there was no reason for Dynamic Queue other then to allow three and four man premades to play ranked together, as we already had duo tied into solo, and five man teams was a queue all it's own.

And before someone says anything about trolls, lane picks, afks, and the like, that has nothing to do with actual queue, and is just a player to player thing.

Really the only good thing Riot did when they released Dynamic Queue was releasing the new champion selection with it.

Am I going to stop playing ranked? No. Ranked is my primary play mode simply because for me there's more meaning to winning.

Am I an idiot for complaining about DQ and still playing ranked anyway? Sure why not?

Riot will change it in the future. Maybe they will keep it, maybe they wont. I don't know.

Anyway that's my piece. I've said enough.

td;dr The people speaking against the "vocal minority" are just a vocal minority of that vocal minority. You shouldn't get punished for succeeding. and new champ select was good, DQ wasn't.

My problem with all the people saying how bad dynamic queue is, is how they represent the problem. They pick and choose specific games where their team ignored them and use that as evidence, while ignoring all the good games they might've had.

Now personally, I have had a problem yet playing with a premade on my team. They communicate and ping, and chat me their strategies and offer to let me in the call. The only "bad" premade I played with simply didn't communicate, but they didn't shit talk me either. I did my thing, they did theirs, and they pinged me when they needed me

Oh, I had good games (for my LP) with premades.

For example like 2-3 days ago I got matched up with a 4-man premade. One of them was obviously smurfing, playing at a level of a high diamond (and was actually in Plat 2), they pretty much haven't talked, except with me, because I was poking at them (to get them to talk at all). And they all had Mastery 7 with their champs.

But you know what? Despite that we won, with a decent attitude and good KDAs... it wasn't ranked. It didn't look like it.

It was a complete, one-sided stomp, which we could end in 15 minutes, but decided not to, to get more kills.

Again, was it a good game for me? Yes, it was. I will never say "No" to complete freelo, but there was nothing "competitive" about that game.

Treat every game you are in like you are facing a premade, and tell your other team members to be careful. Map awareness is your #1 friend even if dealing with a premade. If you have MIAs, you can bet your money they are all skype-coordinating a zerg in bot or related. Be prepared for it and learn to counter it. I went from the absolute bottom of B5 (tanking from B3 placement thinking the same thing you thought) to changing the way I play in solo-Q and have zipped all the way up to S5 over the course of 2 weeks. So, I've definitely been in your boat and I've overcome. What can YOU do differently to outplay the situations you face in solo-Q? That's the real question.

Jyoeru2 votes

PS: My solo games tend to go way better than my premade duo+ games. Bear that in mind.

First of all, I'd like to congratulate you. Your attitude is very mature and we don't see "maturity" in this game a lot. Amazing job!

I main support, and I go versus a lot of skype-coordinated shit and it tilts me from time to time, but if everyone does their job correctly, you can overcome the premade.

Everyone on boards is crying about how they can't ranked b/c of DQ and I'm sitting here like, "No, its not because of DQ. It is because you're making excuses for the reasons you lose rather than trying to find solutions."

#Everyone, you lose because of your teammates, yourselves. Your loss was not because you played Dynamic Queue and went versus a premade. As unfair as that is, you lost because you didn't out-communicate the enemy team. You say, "how can I communicate more than them if they're in skype?" Pings and Chat do the same thing that Skype does. Instead of listening to music or chatting with a friend through /msg or talking to your viewers (I'm watching you streamers), PAY ATTENTION TO THE GAME AND COMMUNICATE

"Pings and Chat do the same thing that Skype does"

Jyoeru9 votes

Yes, they do. Actually, players who actively ping are probably map aware anyway. It doesn't take long to see a red ! and know something is up in that area. To vocalize it can be more cumbersome, and most people in chat are too distracted by their socializing I've noticed. I had a kid I play with want to hop on skype yesterday, and as we were playing, I was like, "Dude, shut up! Just ping. You talk too much." True stories.

Anags1 votes

People that are on voice chat ping as well and often more. I have played almost exclusively solo q with some duo and half of that was a duo partner that invited me after a game they randomly played with me. We won 3 in a row and weren't on voice chat of any kind.

I'm higher rank now than in any season before. I have been in games where my team has a duo and 3 solos which is no different than last season and the opposing team accuses us of being a 4 or 5 man on Skype lol.

Why because we had some people who used pings and understood what to do and when. People get beat and instantly think..."God damn dynamic queue premade!!"

And it honestly doesn't happen that often. The random times I've played with premades as a solo player I have not had a problem. A couple of times I have a carried a premade.

In my opinion the people complaining about dq would be complaining about trolls, feeders, afks, toxic people if we had soloq. Because they are going to complain about something on the boards when they go on a losing streak or lose a promos again.

And it may have issues in high elo but that is because of the limited player pool. This game isn't perfect but I find games more enjoyable overall this season based on my gameplay experience.

There's no such thing as talk/typing too much, It's more communication.

And yes, I would like to use the ping system but.....

Thank you. Great points. It really does come down to you. Not always. You can't carry every game every time, but if you're playing your character really well, punishing mistakes, and avoiding making them, you'll will at least 50% of the time. True stories.

Ping and chats do not do the same thing that skype does. Skype is faster, allows more specific communication(There's no ping for "warded" for example; You'd have to type it out, as well as relay the location to any gankers, which means you have to type it out). Going premade gets rid of the clashing that people do in solo Q. If a jgler is in a premade, you won't get the AFK farming jgl unless the premade wants him too. The jgler will give you buffs when you want, etc.

You want a cheese comp? Premades can do it, without any conflict. You do it in solo Q? "get out fking troll"

A lot of people don't want to communicate, no matter how much you reach out to them. Premading gets rid of this, and gives them an innate boost which cannot be matched no matter what.

I type extremely fast (a skill you need for this game, imo) so quick communication isn't a problem for me.

Once again, it's not the premade's advantage. It's your team's willingness to coordinate. Riot gives us opportunity during that long champion select. You can type your little manifesto out in queue while you're waiting and then paste it in champion select chat every game if you want a specific set-up. Then it is up to them to trust you, and if they don't want to then that is their right.

Its no different than getting bad players on your team. You just have to hope for ppl who want to communicate.

I'm not saying Dynamic Queue isn't heavily flawed because it is. But if you're going to make excuses (and I know you were just simply replying to what I wrote so I'm not talking directly to you, but the community as whole) how are you going to climb?** Until Riot gets numerical evidence that DQ isn't satisfying the rest of the community, that is when they might (most likely) will revert to Solo Queue.** Knowing this community, that wont be soon. We're slow and sluggish and not proactive on something this wide-scale (Its too wide of a scale to be honest). DQ is going to be here for a while, so until it changes, take control and become a master of communication.

It is a premade advantage. In a premade they will automatically be able to coordinate, and you have a lot more influence over them. You have little to no influence or power over the trolling Disco Nunu(which doesn't exist anymore, but you get the idea). You have limited time during champ select. You have infinite time with premades, and can plan before champ select happens. Premades don't have to type a manifesto, so we have to. What's the guarantee that they'll listen and cooperate like premades do?

There's also a limit to the amount of characters you can put in at a time; You'll have to type the manifesto on another document, and keep copy+pasting it in intervals.

It's up to them to cooperate. So when you get a team with 4 other soloers, it's a gamble. No influence, they can do whatever they want.

You go premade with 4 other people, the gamble becomes guaranteed cooperation, and even more teamwork and communication than if you had a solo team that did try to cooperate.

Its no different than getting bad players on your team. You just have to hope for ppl who want to communicate.

Another thing. In solo Q, you have the random chance to have bad players. If you premade(I assume you premade to win), you are guaranteed to not have a bad player.

If you get matched with 4 other solo que players , 4 of them could be bad. The opposing side has a 3 man premade; 3 of them aren't going to be "bad" because they group together to win. This doesn't account for the elo boosting that happens a lot. Riot actually supports this. At least, they have no issues with watching a Platinum Rengar main smurf boosting his viewers on twitch.

But if you're going to make excuses

There's a difference between flaws in the system and excuses. These are flaws in the system; Being in a premade gives you a significant advantage over nonpremades. It's a fact.

Until Riot gets numerical evidence that DQ isn't satisfying the rest of the community, that is when they might (most likely) will revert to Solo Queue.

They won't do that. They had one biased survey, that's it. No update. When was the last time they counter their playerbase? It's been a while since that too. There have been a large sum of surveys which point towards SoloQ being more popular. The recent roundtable discussion by Riot is another example of DynaQ being less popular; It's the only recent official Riot video that has had that kind of dislike: like ratio. They can pull the numbers out of their hats, and people will suck it up. On the other hand, the surveys used by the playerbase have their methodology more laid out, so it's less manipulative.

Dude. Anti DynaQ has roused the greatest amount of animosity and players, despite their lack of power have tried everything they can; Petitions, numerical data, arguing, debates, pro players debating on Riot, trying to get everyone to quit playing ranked(the increased queue times are noticeable, especially at higher elos). Pro players have just abandoned Riot's servers to play on their own.

Once again, trying to communicate. Not everyone wants to communicate.

TNHA Baritone1 votes

So do I. But when I type, no matter how fast I type: "stop typing and play."

Just another reason why the unwillingness to communicate is the real reason people are losing games despite the disadvantages of dynamic queue. A premade team can only do so much. If one of them has a rough lane or if more than 2 of them are feeding, the game should end quick.

I know that premades do get an advantage but if you look at it that way, you wont get anything done as a solo player. It is still possible to climb and many solo players have given up over this. Trust me, I know premades have advantages. They get to practice team comps and cheese strategies but that still doesn't mean they cannot feed or that you cannot out-communicate them.

I honestly cannot respond to that. You got me there :(

I just wanted to make it clear that I do not like Dyanmic Queue but if I sit around and mope about how it is the reason that I've been demoted more than 15 times in Platinum then I wont get anything done.

Finally I will say this, "Not everyone wants to communicate" wont cut it in a team game.

Premades have access to voice chat to deal with the slowness of typing. The last part applies to all teams, of any kind, no matter whether or not they are premade.

I still climb, though ranked hasn't been as fun as of late(until Illaoi buffs), not only DynaQ(which does still bring a lot of toxicity), but also because of the drastic changes that have been occurign this season. It's possible to outcommunicate them, but it happens very rarely

So nobody even bothers to defend it?

The boards just seem like an endless circle jerk session over how bad DQ is. If ANYONE at least cared a little about DQ, wouldn't they at least make a post justifying the DQ existence?

I means let's be honest, even the Rioters at the round table discussion weren't able to provide much evidence to support DQ other than a perceived "decrease in toxicity." They were simply discussing all the mistakes of DQ almost the entire session, which does not look very healthy for a ranked system that needs to be both consistent and competitive.

ViashinoWizard4 votes

Because it IS a circle jerk. Players generally only post in Gameplay & Balance if they have a problem with something. There's no real reason to come and defend Duo Queue because most of the threads complaining about it aren't interested in actual discussion. More importantly, if most players are satisfied with DQ, it's not their responsibility to justify it to the ones who don't.

Of course it does... It shows we care enough about the state of the game to contribute to its development and to the community that participates in playing it. It shows we care MORE than an average person about this game. That we are the "hardcore" players. And this is the EXACT type of player that Riot specifically says the game is for in posts like the one by Rioter Tryndamere.

Mr Fidori6 votes

But what if I care about the game, and simply don't have any issues? Why would your opinion still matter more, simply because you're complaining about something and I'm not?

jaymc11305 votes

You misunderstand entirely. The players who come to the boards to talk about, and try to improve the game, suggest ideas, and generally make the game experience better all around are FAR more important than the players who do not care enough to try to influence the direction of the game in a positive manner. It has nothing to do with complaining. It has nothing to do with supporting. It has everything to do with WE are the ones who care enough to make our voices heard and improve the game. In whatever fashion our opinions and ideas may be presented in, whatever form they may take. WE care enough to want the game to be better, always, and are constantly discussing how to do so. The players who DONT care enough to come here and talk about things are the players who BENEFIT from the things we talk about. Yet they do not contribute to the community to help improve the quality of the gaming experience for all players. That is why we, the forum goers, are FAR more important than the players who do not care. Likely, they wouldn't care either way no matter what we decided here, accomplish here, or don't accomplish here. But they will benefit from our dedication all the same.

What ever your personal opinion might be, it too, is more important than the players who do not venture here. You care enough to show up and participate in the ways you believe will make the game better. Regardless of your opinion on the topic at hand, your opinion is more important than that of a player who does not visit the boards.

I've been here for almost 6 years now. The boards are a great resource. Yes, not everyone knows about them and that's part of why we don't represent a larger portion of the playerbase. But no matter what is being discussed it shouldn't be something that drives people away from the boards. We have several subsections. You should take some time to stop by all of them, see what different discussions are being had, and give your input on topics that interest you. I post mostly in G&B, GD, and PB&M. Most of my posts are in regards to helping newer players learn the nuances of the game, critical issues that affect all players in a negative fashion, strategy in high level play, or friendly banter in GD about any random subject.

GD is still my fav subsection. The old forums pre season 5 basically only had traffic on that one subsection and nothing happening on the others. It made the boards a cluttered mess, imagine if ALL the subsections now were combined into just ONE section. It was tough to keep track of a conversation or topic because the pages moved so fast and new threads were created non stop. The new boards, after originally being very poor, have become quite an improvement now over what we had in season 1-4. As much as I use the other board subsections I still hang out mostly in GD as its the "chill spot" for the boards, the place where daily forum goers come to hang out and chat with one another about life, world events, the game, other games, share interesting stories, make/play with friends etc. All the oldest and most veteran posters can be found there and while we occasionally venture to other subsections we all hang out there more than anywhere else.

Personally my forum account has been used for 3 things:

  1. Meme'd before the new boards about the type of people you run/ran into in ranked.
  2. Argued against Lyte/Wookie when tribunal came out (and didn't give you a reason for a ban, just told you the ban was by the tribunal). I explained that in a free/just world the protection of being told what crime you're being/have been tried for is essential to protect innocent people from being guilty. Eventually they came around and you got punishment-reports. (Also argued against it existing at all after punishment-reports turned out to show very little leniency in perma-bans, a few of which were reverted publicly by riot. Another thing that went away.)
  3. This normal-queue-ranked-garbage system.

While I get that people with accounts with like no posts are suspicious; at the same time you can't blame people for making a new forum account to come discuss this. It's pretty awful. I can't think of anything since I started playing that's upset as many people as this, every day half of the new trending topics are about it. And it's been like that for 6 months. And I started before ranked even existed on this game. I wouldn't doubt that many people who have never posted would make new accounts to post.

The vocal players opinions are going to be regarded with importance because they bother to voice an opinion, but it doesn't actually make the opinions they voice more important than the opinions held by player that don't voice an opinion.

Of course, if you are vocal on the boards, you naturally will say that your opinion is important and matters. You might say that your opinion matters even more than other players who are vocal on the boards.

But you have it the wrong way around. By voicing an opinion, you now have a responsibility for what you say, not an importance. Everyone who posts thinks that what they have to say is important. But it's only actually important if it is responsible.

There will always be more complaints than compliments due to human nature. (Bias towards negativity)

So now you have a minority group full of emotionally charged people coming here to complain. The boards are literally the equivalent to a complaint department. Want to know what you dont get in a complaint department? Someone coming there to praise how good service was.

"It makes no sense for me to get my mmr up by doing well and winning 5 matches in a row, get promoted, and then the game searches my slightly higher mmr out to match me against premade teams, of which have much better communication and coordination then my team, and then for the next three to five matches I lose against premades and get demoted back down. All just because I was doing well on my own."

I never thought about it like that.... interesting....

"And before anyone goes on about my rank, premades are affecting every elo, not just the higher ups." Bro, in plat they're just as bad if not worse.

You can't assume that Boards is the only place where people express their opinions, nor can you assume the people who aren't vocal take a neutral stance regarding DynaQ.

so what you're saying is all we needed was the new champion select for the ranked system instead of dynamic queue

First off there could be more defending DQ then people speaking out on it on boards. Thing is most people do not post their like/love of something like this. So that will lead to showing more people against it then in favor of it on boards. Another thing is given the number of dislike post on a subject, people that are in of favor it again feel like they're beating a dead horse. It feels silly trying to shed light onto others who are going to hate everything you say since you did not agree with them across so many posts. So for people like myself I post here and there to really silly posts about DQ, but I am in favor of it.

That is real majority of players. The case for DQ the real number of players DQ is targeted at favor or simply do not care. Lets face it they're there to play with friends and have fun, Riot is trying to get them another sense of enjoyment through rank play.

The amount of premades you say you face after winning 5 games is stupid high. Or it was the same number of people as in old soloq. I see the same people often, and yet to see the same premade 3+ in a game. Speaking of my own odds, it still feels the same as soloq. Getting the same duo in the game on one team or another. Out of the 2 games I have played solo vs 4+ the games were much easier. Even if they could talk, they were still easy to kill as support blitz. As I stated above already, this is so old typing this out. People have to remember League is a team based game, it should be a skill you improve at even when soloq. You should have some skills how to act like a team mate to randoms. Team work is a skill on its own, watching minimap alerting others of what is going on. Assist team members with roams/teleports. Just because you can talk to someone does not mean you gain the team work skill set.

For premades on your side or on other team, most people remember losses more then wins in ranked matches. Unless some funny or crazy thing happen on a win, I know I mainly forget about that game. Though I can count the number of games I lost in a day due to someone afk,dc, someone losing lane bad, crazy bad call, etc. etc.. Those are the games you want to remember though, you simply do not say GG bad game and go on to next. Something bad happened here which cased the loss. If you can find a way to fix it, odds are you win more. Simply put learn from mistakes.

How did soloq have no problems... It had problems that Riot is trying to address with DQ. I had friends that refused to play league because of how bad soloq was. They only did rank 3/5 because they felt soloq was just stupid thing to be in place. Then there is another problem you pointed out. What if you have 4 people? Are you forever stuck playing nonranked games? How often was rank 3/5 really played? I know I never touched them for years on end. Even when I had 5+ friends playing with me. Making a rank 5s team just seemed like a waste of time.

I feel bad because really don't want to come off sounding like attacking you. It is really just myself trying to bring other points into what is being said. So that people can understand what they're saying better.

You're not attacking me at all. You are simply expressing your own thoughts on the matter and that is part of what the forums are for.

As I said in the post, I was having a really bad day and was just simply venting.

Is my post accurate? I don't know.

But what I do know is that with Dynamic Queue, I've been learning how to play against premades, which has led me to win more matches than lose, unlike back before DQ.

But like I said, I'm still going to play ranked. I'm going to play it no matter what Riot does as with every change they make, it's something more I must overcome, allowing me to become more skilled over time.

Will I ever rise out of the lower ranks? I doubt it, but I'm not going to stop playing ranked for as long as I play League.

Your problem lies in assuming that people that aren't talking don't care about Dynamic Queue. This is not necessarily true; people that aren't talking just don't care to voice their opinion. They might be pro dynamic queue, anti dynamic queue, or neutral on it, but they don't care enough in any case to voice their opinion.

Plus, people tend to go on forums and complain more than they go on forums and talk about how cool the game is.

People tend to be more vocal about changes they dislike than the ones they do like. I'm not saying it's more favoured or less, but it's very difficult to draw conclusions without actual data

When we talk about total player population we need to always take in account that not all league players play ranked. I remember it is only a small percentage of the total playerbase. Whenwe talk about dynamic queue, the opinion of those who have only played normals certainly shouldn't matter or at least be weighted much less.

At this point I think the negativity is hurting LoL more than Dynamic Queue, but that IS also a valid concern for not liking Dynamic Queue imo. Adding something to the game that will make people bitch non stop till it's dead has happened to games many times. People bitched about sprint and other stuff in Halo till it died, people have bitched about CoD's new movement, and preorders are lower than ever altho Black Ops 3 got a buff just cuz it's Treyarch, it happens to alot of games.

I think there's a solution that needs to be found and activated asap cuz this is just getting annoying. For reference, i'm a solo extremist that much prefers that system but understands why Riot wants Dynamic since alot of other games have that for their competitive playlist. I still say have one playlist, if ur solo match solos, if ur in a party match other parties of any size. If you have 4, lose one or get another, simple as that. Groups of 4 are what's killing League of Legends lol.

Oh and it really sucks that pro players aren't playing on ladder as much anymore. Better in terms of making the region better overall, and more fun for them i'm sure, but i'm sure it'll hurt the pro scene in the long run after people who are playing now start retiring. I wish there was a way to make the ping better for them while not screwing over the rest of the country:(

I didn't realize that the forums were empty before Dynamic Queue was released.

We represented a sample size of the LoL population before DQ came out. The majority of that sample size seems not to like it.

DeathBurst1 votes

Two, that there are in fact a much greater amount of people that want Dynamic gone, than there are of people whom want it to stay.

You have no proof of that, and you just assume that all those who don't talk also don't care. Maybe there are plenty of people who want DQ, are happy with the current situation, and just don't have any reason to come on the boards and are not even aware of the controversy. I don't know... But Riot can know, they have access to more data than us, and I choose to believe them.

Solo Queue had no problems at all

Lol... If you actually believe that, for sure, DQ has more issues than "zero". But it's just wrong to say that SoloQ had no problems...

PhDs Nuts1 votes

The Boards already had a population before Dynamic Queue was released. You're acting like Dynamic Queue came out, and now suddenly there are people here complaining about it who must only represent a small piece of the community.

That's not how it works. The Boards community was already a control before Dynamic Queue was released. After its release, it seems like most of the Boards community doesn't like it. That's a sample size of the community that the majority of which doesn't like DQ.

You can also find the same representation on the Youtube video of the latest "Roundtable" discussion with Scarra.
