People, please, use the pick intent feature!

It's actually a great option to try and build a functioning team. I've become way too paranoid about picking Mordekaiser due to my last pick Jungler picking something like YI or Nidalee when I could have actually picked something with engage and hard CC top lane instead.

There's a reason this option's in the current champ select. I know we all want to play our soloQ hero one man army damage dealers but it won't mean a lot if we're going to lose in the long run due to a weak team comp.

When people stop banning champions because they don't agree with you playing it, then people will actually use the intent feature.

'I don't like that champion, so you're not playing it.' /bans

IKR I stopped using pick intent when my champ got banned for the 3rd time...last time I was first pick Ahri.

ehhh yeah no I completely agree with the ability to ban idiots from playing off meta champions especially in ranked. It is going to be mind blowing but you picking a terrible champion and ruining the game for 4 other people because you wanted to try out a new terrible champion should matter.

Personally I wouldnt ban a Shaco jungle, but that is just me. If you want to play Malazahar jungle go to a bot game. I completely love the fact that teams now have a slight ability to just remove the idiot factor from games. Greatly increase the likelihood of your team winning.

I don't agree. I wanted to play mundo top in a ranked game. He is one of the few champs I know how to play consistently when I top lane. First ban on my team takes mundo away when I was first pick, and when I asked why, he said "mundo got nerfed". This was after the minor ult change... I fail to see why people should get stripped of a comfort pick when they are forced into a role that they don't normally play. Even if it's off meta. I played ranked games that we won with shen supp. This was before LCS and the rework, and at the time it seemed really weird, but it worked.

TLDR: DON'T BAN A CHAMP IN RANKED BECAUSE IT's NOT STRONG. I can understand wanting to target troll picks, but banning away a champ from someone who needs a comfort pick isn't cool.

what? You got to choose between the 2 rolls you get. You do not get to say it the off role. You must main 2 roles now.

WIOP64571 votes

I understand that, and top is my second best role, but I main jungle and primarily play jungle. My top lane is going to be weaker, and I prefer to play tanks in that role. Therefore when someone bans out the champ I had intended because it was "weak" (this is mundo btw) that just doesn't sit well.

Angry Monster1 votes

then man up and practice the top role. You can play something besides ranked to have a pool.

You people got it dumbed down to 2 roles now you are flying i am weak at the off role. What a joke.

I swear, sometimes someone picks a champion who's very weak statistically but then you watch them play and you'd swear it's the next OP.

That should be bannable. Seriously, if you can't work with people in champ select, why the hell should I play a game with you?

Jus Clownin3 votes

So much truth. All pick intent does is cause you to risk getting your champ banned

What? Shaco support? Shaco top? BAN.

Im good. Imma play "nasus support". Oh wait.. sorry guys i misclicked shaco.

Dessem2 votes

This is the reason I stopped using pick intent. It's a great idea by Riot, but I've had my pick intent champion banned enough times because someone on my team decided it wasn't a viable pick. (Of course, that same person picks a fragile jungler when we needed a tank but w/e.)

Shaco is pretty weak. It's not as bad as the Thresh jungle I saw though. Flash hook is not a valid reason to jungle Thresh.

I love everyone specifically pointing out their opinions of Shaco when I just picked a champion at random.

It could be ANY champion. Doesn't have to be Shaco. 'I don't like that champion, so you're not playing it.' /bans

Or worse.

"Guys, you can't all pick squishies."

"DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO"

bans your pick intent

Zeke Maelstorm1 votes

Agreed all I need is Kayle banned. I mean sure I can play other mid laners but it's just not the same.

Athenes Lulu1 votes

I remember asking Lyte about people purposely banning pick intents, and that this can be preventable if such champs can't be banned by their teammates by placing a "lock".

His stance was that if someome pick intent an "S-tier" champ, then not being able to ban that champ would be problematic in games. I mean, imagine if people pick intent Fiora every damn game and not being able to ban her, so she is in every game...

I mean, people automatically ban certain champs because they have a champion name in their IGN, or just op.gg'd and ban their mains anyways. Or you say you wanna play x, people ban x because you said you wanna play x. It's nothing new, but still stupidly frustrating.

I understand why Riot can't prevent people from banning certain champions.

I'm blaming the community, not Riot.

Athenes Lulu1 votes

That's just a suggestion I tried proposing to prevent some trolling, but yes, it's more on the community.

Though clarity on whose turn it is and revealing pick intents is another topic...

RIPxMidnight13 votes

I never use pick intent.

For one, I don't want the enemy team to see my intended champion. Until Riot addresses this, pick intent is broken in my view. This mechanic discourages trades, because it broadcasts intended lane and gives opponents an opportunity to counter pick. Ambiguous role champions like Kayle/Echo lose the surprise if I'm showing Anivia before I switch.

Secondly, too often will my own team troll me. Not because my pick is weak (I don't play off-meta garbage because I want to win) but because my pick is strong. Second pick intended Xin? Nah I'm going to ban him instead of give you the chance to try and pick him. Nothing tilts me harder than having my own team ban out my intended pick.

So no, don't even use pick intent. It's a broken mechanic and a noob trap. INSTEAD, USE YOUR WORDS.

WIOP64574 votes

They did fix that... In the latest patch. They can no longer see which champ you are hovering the moment you start picking.

But I always use pick intent.

I really don't understand why everyone is so intent on putting everything on their shoulders. I guess it must be adrenaline.

But yeah, the feature is suppose to encourage teamwork. If people aren't willing to be a bit less selfish in this mode, then the game is not going to go well.

Malicious Metal12 votes

I like being a high threat as much as the next guy but you know what I like more? Winning.

But yes, this soloQ mentality of being this hero to the team is often counterproductive. Hell, that's why I main Nautilus in the Jungle; I don't care about fancy scores as long as I provide something to my team.

Ralanr1 votes

Same reason I enjoy tank junlers. Everyone else can go nuts for kills, I'll just try and set them up.

WIOP64571 votes

Big fan of tanky top laners here. I hate playing fiora or poppy. Give me malph, mundo, old shen (RIP), and I will do all in my power to win the fights. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

Ralanr3 votes

Poppy is a tank. But otherwise I agree with you my friend!

Unstoppable Monk2 votes

Then you get the games where tall of the laners who don't understand that you are trying to let them get a kill and wonder why you are fighting them while they are farming minions. =(

Carpe Victoria2 votes

Because people have been saying the only way to climb ranked is to 'carry yourself' forever. So you get 5 soloQ heros trying to carry.

Ralanr1 votes

And I fucking hate that.

Unstoppable Monk1 votes

Literally picking carries.

Ralanr1 votes

No, just everyone on the team trying to carry by themselves.

Unstoppable Monk1 votes

You've never seen a yasuo mid, vayne bot, trynd top, yi jungle comp before?

Consider yourself lucky.

Where's the support?

Unstoppable Monk2 votes

No support, just River Shen. Shen summoner 14 summoner 3

sorry cant use it! I am a support player and i need to adjust my champion picks on my and the enemy team.

Intent is not final. Your argument is invalid.

B1naryB0t3 votes

The only issue is that pick intent means nothing because no one actually is hard set on what they will play (at least, they shouldn't be, that's bad if they are) because things like counterpicks and team composition are to be held in mind.

It's not uncommon in my games as jokes everyone just does pick intent Taric.

Yeah, that's why I don't care to use it. If I'm bottom pick and we need a tank, I will go tank if need be. If I'm top pick, then it really don't matter if I go squishy champ or tank. If I go squishy champ and my team complains about no tank, then that's they're problem for not being one if they wanted one so badly. Also, squishy teams aren't bad either. I've won matches with 4-5 squishy champs so meh.

That's exactly why I troll intent pick with Soraka Jungle. Probably the most useless champ to jungle with. Even Sona could probably do it a little better. Then when I pick, I go Trundle/Volibear/Jarvan whoever I feel like going. I still haven't figured out who the most useless solo laner is though. Otherwise I'd troll intent pick that, too.

B1naryB0t1 votes

My friend once played devourer+rageblade soraka jungle and it was really funny. It actually worked, but the match was in a way that literally anything would've worked.

I like to pick intent Taric for solo lanes and Swain for support.

lol. I think Kat might be better for troll intent pick for adc/support. Cause Swain support would be better than Katarina support. At least Swain has CC for it and stuff.

B1naryB0t1 votes

Yes but swain is already garbage with a laner's income, let alone a support income.

Yep I stopped using the pick intent after one too many douchebag team mate banned my intended pick because they didn't like it.

Sassmast3r3 votes

There's a reason why I just choose a random champion in pick intent/don't choose anyone at all. If someone on my team has the power to ban AND the audacity to ban whomever I actually want to play just for the sake of pissing me off, I'm not going to make the mistake of utilizing the pick intent feature. If you want me to use it, fix the community. Until then, it remains a completely pointless waste of 20 seconds in the pre-game phase. Just my two cents though.

Hot Deli3 votes

I like to play off meta champions, even in ranked, because it has worked for me.

Whether or not you appreciate that, I risk griefing from other players who will literally flame, and then ban my pick intent...

Zenithir3 votes

I saw an AD soraka top totally rock a poppy. She was 3-1-4 by 15 minutes. People on my team were bellyaching in champion select, but it was absolutely hilarious to see in-game.

Bârd3 votes

While it is a GREAT tool to communicate your intent to your team, it does the same for the enemy.

Say you are first pick and say you intend to pick Mordekaiser mid (for example).

Your last pick then says "Hey, can you grab me Riven, my main? I can pick you Morde"

Because it automatically selects your pick intent, the enemy team KNOWS that you want to play Mordekaiser.

Lo and behold, if any one of them is both paying attention and knows how to play your desired champion, they can snipe him away from you before your trade partner can pick him.

Then you are left with whatever champions that "Riven only diamond smurf" has on his account, and you have no way of guaranteeing that they have any champions you play.

Me and my friend snipe the enemy one trick ponys when we can, and it pisses off Vayne/Riven/Yasuo mains to no end.

Due to champ select strats, I do one of two things; either don't select anything, or hover Nunu.
