So is Thornmail a component item now?

4/11 PBE Update

; Thornmail Armor lowered from 100 to 30 Unique passive magic damage reflect lowered from 25% to 15% >Randuin's Omen * Armor lowered from 60 to 50 [New] Now gives -15% damage taken from critical strikes Unique Passive renamed to Thorns Unique Passive - Thorns: When basic attacked, deal magic damage to the attacker equal to 15% bonus Armor, doubled for critical strikes

Cause if so, I don't actually mind this at all.

Yea and nay, it goes off of bonus health now instead of total. Basically the tankier you are, the bigger the shield instead of getting a massive shield while building mainly damage.

it got swapped to bonus HP

it works out to be about slightly less on Illaoi's current meta build actually, factoring in the HP nerfs to randy/DMP and SV. It completely neuters the item for anyone who isn't building similar though, so it at least swipes the item away from ranged ADs without needing to bar them from it completely.

the AD buff is more significant, IMO

max max health to bonus health.

it doesnt include base health values anymore. since health is also nerfed across the board, the 75% shield will be much smaller than it would be now on live.

it is bonus health instead of the current max health

So not really

The increased base AD will be nice for all trinity users though.

let's pretend thornmail is still a tank item and put it on tank items. this will solve it's design flaws.

I hope there's more to this than what is shown currently, more than likely I still won't buy it. The reflect damage is still so small. Maybe Thornmail will build into another new item? I mean other than Randuins

thornmail builds into Randiun Omen

Other than Randiuns

Still not willing to buy it with the highest armor item being 90 and stacking armor can only bring me to a maximum of like 50 magic damage returned for every auto

The crit reduction is nice though.

In the scenario that the thornmail is dealing 50 damage, it will deal 100 damage back to the attacker for every crit they land. It will definitely have it's place.

TTK Dreadnought1 votes

its also about 330 bonus armor for 50 damage going by pbe armor values

sunfire does 29DPS on pbe right now, so you need 190 bonus armor to compete with sunfire which would be pretty much 3 armor items. however, it'll end up being 58 against crits. So while tanks overall have damage nerfs through the items, making "thornmail" more easily accessible and usable is actually very nice.

However, Riot said they wanted crit damage to counter tankiness in the long run. So i'm still speculating.

You may have replied to the wrong person since I was only speaking within the confinement StiffPickle's scenario. If this was meant for me, then you are just preaching to the choir.

That said, if you are an immobile tank like Sion, you can be kited. In this scenario, Thornmail is your only damage output since they are too far away for Sunfire Cape to do anything. Since Sunfire Cape deals no returning damage to the attacker, it shouldn't even be apart of this discussion. That should be a topic reserved for general tank itemization or Sunfire Cape itself.

P.S. It isn't 29 DPS unless they only auto you once for one full second :D :D :D

that is a garbage tier item right there

So, as they are on the PBE right now, Thornmail's passive still isn't named anything, meaning it stacks with the Thorns passive on Randuin's.

Meaning you buy them both and laugh as any AD auto-attacker who hits you instantly explodes.

Even if they do fix this and name Thornmail's passive to Thorns as well, it's still bizarre that the reflection damage changes from "15% of the incoming damage" to "30% of your own bonus Armor versus critical strikes".

nah, it´s still way to easily counter by getting a tiny bit of mr and lifesteal (which is all getting buffed anyway)...still probably not even worth it vs full ad.
