Is it just me or is new urgot really, really weak? Especially compared to the old one?

I know, i know, "herp derp you dont have 9 mil mastery on urgot" but holy cow, new Urgot just doesnt do anything at all. Urgot was my first favourite champion back in Season 2 and i played him now and then on/off over the years. Old Urgot was definitely not good, but i feel like where old Urgot was like a hybrid artillery marksman, new Urgot is just... Nothing. Its like he's trying to be a marksman, initiator and tank all at the same time - and the result is that he doesnt really do anything well. He doesnt deal damage, he doesnt apply cc, he doesnt initiate well and he doesnt tank for his team.

The concept is so good, too - he looks really cool, but he just feels so unsatisfying to play. The old one would reward you for playing a certain way - land your E and do reliable damage with Q, slowing enemies and keeping yourself at a safe distance - or hop in with your R and temporarily function as a disruptive, cc-nuke offtank.

I cant figure out how to make the new Urgot work. Building damage doesnt actually cause a lot of damage - his scaling is bad, his spells have massive cooldowns, his base damage is low and his spells are very hard to hit properly - while building tanky simply reinforces the aforementioned issues.

Sure, if you make an enemy towerdive you or fling them into your tower, and then land your ENTIRE COMBO of leg shotguns, you can easily kill most laners - early game. But that's the thing - you need to hit your ENTIRE combo to actually deal any damage. Urgot is supposed to be a ranged juggernaut, but he functions best at melee range - and even then, doesnt really achieve anything due to being outdamaged by almost every champion in the game.

Is he a marksman? Because i can see him being useful after he gets items. Its just that as a solo player, i cant ever seem to get that far. The game is over by the time i finish my second item.

He's not a marksman anymore. He's a bruiser/fighter. You should be building 1-2 dmg items and tank the rest as he now scales off HP and he has % HP dmg.

I would recommend trying out: item 3071 item 3025 item 3742 item 3053 item 3111 ( item 3065 or item 3194 )

he never was a ADC though, he has always been a bruiser/juggernaut

He was a bit of both. He'd risk taking some damage to get a lock-on, but for the most part had to play back. New urgot is wayyy more tanky because he needs to utilize most of his shotguns which means he needs to be in the middle of the fight for a long time.

Theres a problem wiht the way you play him if the game is over before you get a second item. Maybe he isnt the champ for you

Frontline Fury1 votes

That's the worst part, really. He used to be one of my strongest champions, but new Urgot is simply so weak he seems to get outdamaged in top lane by every single other champion because he has to get dangerously close to farm, thus he either sacrifices half his mana pool for one minion wave or half his health bar.

Leaf on Bush1 votes

Not a single champion can outdamage you.... wtf are you talking about.

Don't know about Darius but he is banned in all my games so I had no chance to try that match up.

All you need to do is get behind them to proc dmg on your back. You can do that on level 1. I won most of my lanes on level 1 justby waiting in a bush behind them...lol. You underestimate his damage, you need to play extremely aggro early.

Also max W first and you outtrade everyone while tanking minions.

Puddings1 votes

I don't think you know how to play Urgot , Every single time i used him i always out damage their top laner and you don't need to use your W you can just walk up to a minion and time it perfect ( which is very easy to do ) and use your passive you can get 2 - 3 Minions. the only champion i found that i had a hard time with was Gangplank and Tryndamere because when you use your ulti they can counter it by last second heal. I would get :item 3071 for first back then i will get item 3022 the rest is all situational item 3075 item 3156 item 3047 or item 3009 the other items u decided

No. He's a Juggernaut.

I believe the problem is that Riot made him specifically for top lane as a tank when they decided to rework him. Adjusting his kit with a shield based on health, changing his ult to deal true damage when an enemies health is low enough, but there's delays now with his abilities unlike before. You could play Urgot anywhere before his rework. Here are two reddit pages that tell you his negatives:

https://www.reddit.com/r/UrgotMains/comments/6pq94k/new_urgot_is_pathetically_underpowered_and_needs/ _https://www.reddit.com/r/UrgotMains/comments/6s5y09/what_changes_do_you_think_urgot_needs_right_now/

I don't favor his new kit, I prefer the old kit because I could deal high damage within seconds and kill people easily and poke hard. His old passive, ult, and W ability made him tanky enough to survive to kill anyone 1v1. He was my one trick to get to gold in S6.

Health and lethality seem like a good mix for his rework, but idk what build is perfect.

Try: item 3047 item 3156 item 3071 item 3033 item 3814 and maybe a item 3026 for the last item.

New Urgot became harder to pull off due to delay and Shorter ranges. He is not really meant to be a marksman. He is a ranged juggernaut. If played correctly you can dish out stupid loads of damage, but it requires a lot of positioning and game Knowledge. I won't tell you stories now, he is definetly not the strongest juggernaut, but he can very well hard harrass early with his passive procs. Despite their cooldowns you can poke extremely hard if you land the 3 legs in the specific direction. Just try maxing your Q first. as i said, positioning is really big on him, so you Need to be able to outslow the enemy due to you having a self slow of a flat 125 movement speed when you fire.

If i had to give you a proper suggestion of items it would look a Little something like this:

Set 1: item 3071 item 3009 item 3022 item 3742 item 3156 item 3075

Set 2: item 3812 item 3022 item 3025 item 3111 (or item 3047 ) item 3053 item 3065

Set 3: item 3071 item 3142 item 3009 item 3053 item 3153 item 3742

Each Build is situational, but each can do the necessary work if you can successfully master it. I am not gonna lie here, none of the builds are the best on him nor are they the most recommendable, but they are all worth a try. They all fulfill the necessary functions to make urgot work, which would be:

-Reliable Slows that outwork his self slow -Somewhat durability and tankyness aswell as slight damage -Supportive for initiation and to Pick out someone

Urgot has, as far as i have experienced it, a very difficult mixture of engage and initiation. He can either start a fight by ulting someone and fear the front line, or he can dive bomb and spread chaos with his passive. Utilizing his kit as a whole has been a vast difficulty if you ask me, because his passive wears off very fast if you divebomb due to you not focusing your damage on a single target but rather chaotically poke everyone at the same time. Initiating with his Ult is situational because it only executes if the target falls below a certain health threshold (which riot should fix a bit because it often is very misleading graphically, try judging their hp by the bar above their heads, you will almost never get your ult off) Not to Forget that purge makes him slow himself if he fires, meaning he can not chase very well, and is easily shaken off if you fight him inside your own creep wave.

The reason why urgot feels underwhelming in his main Task is mainly because he has weaknesses which are too easy to exploit. never have i seen a champion thats easier to kite and chase as the new urgot, but man does he hit like a truck once he starts doing his job.

Leaf on Bush1 votes

Way too much dmg. You can build just cleaver into full tank.

Eternal Torment1 votes

I did specify it is situational.

Edit: Without any damage he won't do jack against squishies. his passive deals reduced damage on consecutive triggers. Urgot Needs to be able to dish out something. Relying solely on his percent health damage passive is a grave mistake, other than his passive and his ult he has no percentage health scalings at all, meaning you do Need at least 2 semi-ad or full ad items to do something.

Leaf on Bush1 votes

His offensive scaling isn't that great. You just waste gold and become vulnerable. Also his shield has pretty damn high health scaling.

On hit items are garbage, because your on-hit attack speed is locked at 1.0 most of the time.

Overall the "sets" you posted seem like you randomly picked some items... like stackingitem 3022 and item 3025 (FM is better anyway)... that's just bad. You also seem to ignore magic resist, also bad, you are a slowly walking free kill for any mage. You get cc'ed and bursted down.

Specific

Oh

specific

whats

#Specific

This?

and you Forget that Urgot is not a tank. he is a juggernaut. he is meant to deal at least some damage. he has no defs other than a shield, a rather meh dash that cant go over walls and a slow you can't reliably use to escape.

That's why people cant make him work. the difference between juggernaut and tank is that one is meant to do damage while being beefy, and the other one is ONLY meant to be beefy.

And just a note, most mages cannot successfully shake away an urgot that walks into their face. His strength lies in the fact that he is a Monster if he gets in range and from the experience i have made, mages cannot Keep up with the threat he can pose up close. Sure, they may get to hurt him or even kill him, but that will take a considerable amount of work, and possibly even kiting, which mages are known to be bad at (unless youre ryze or syndra with rylais and always hit your Q skills)

And while on-hit items are garbage on urgot in General, he still can make use of some of them. Black cleaver shred ignores his 1/3 effectificy proc on his Purge and so do DD and Frozen mallet. He has half the set he can proc at full effectivity despite being crippled for everything else

Last but not least, how is Maw and Spirit visage and Ninja tabi ignoring Magic resist? I can tell from that Response alone that your whole comment was only addressing the 3rd set of my suggestions.

Leaf on Bush1 votes

Darius is a Juggernaut ... does he need more than a cleaver?

Mordekaiser is a Juggernaut.... he can deal tons of damage with just Trinity Force and Rylais.

Think again.

Also try actually building tanky before you say "muhhh it does no dmg". I tried both and tanky is just better.

You can build 2 off tank items. For example item 3071 item 3022.

For 1 off-tank item+ 1 full damage item you should snowball and win early. For 3 off-tank items you should snowball and win early. With even more damage you must snowball extremely hard. Fail and you lose the game because your build is useless.

All the "sets" you posted are exremely reliant on snowballing and early win.

Eternal Torment1 votes

I swear i am gonna post a link for you that shows you to the wiki site of the word "specific" I WROTE DOWN FFS IT IS NOT A RECOMMENDABLE BUILD!!! my fucking god, if you wanna argue at least give me some reason to believe you actually read what i said because you clearly havent. i told him, and i repeadedly told you, the builds are #SPECIFIC and

#NOT THE BEST ONES EXISTING but they are worth a try.

Leaf on Bush1 votes

He is actually extremely strong in early game, can easily snowball mid game, but falls off in late game because ADC's outscale him, in late game he is mostly a tank... because its really hard to proc his dmg in team fights.

And he is juggernaut, not a marksman, you build very little damage mostly tank but still do tons of dmg.

Eternal7911 votes

Urgot really isn't super weak but does need a couple buffs imo. He also takes some getting used to and can deal quite a bit of damage if his E, W and shotgun knees are used correctly; while his ult makes for some nice executes when a low health enemy is getting away or if you just need to kill them fast in order to survive.

As for his build, this is what I usually do: item 3071 item 3022 item 3110 for damage, health, cdr, mana and armor, and then usually build whatever tank stats I think i need from there. Some times I'll build a item 3053 later on. The Frozen Mallet also helps to keep enemies in your W range longer with its slows. I can also imagine tanking summoner 3 to help with that quite a bit.

While Urgot can be fairly tanky, its best that he's not the first person to initiate in team fights; but when you do, definitely go for the squishy damage dealers first (as with any champ really). And watch out for hard CC cause it can really ruin Urgot's day being he has to walk in a circle to deal maximum damage.

its just dumb a trynd can counter-ult urgot.

Fear the Kayn1 votes

Yea IMO they should just give Urgot's ultimate true death (nothing can save you). I think that would put him in a pretty good spot.

Teriyaki Bukkake1 votes

I tend to have more success when I max w for much more melee fighting capability (just incase that might be a thing you aren't doing) Basically use q for the slow, or use it 3-4 times for the harass early, and then catch up to your opponent with that and W, or, Q to slow and then E onto them then W. If you lock onto them you usually should win trades/fights unless there is some other factor effecting the situation. Do they have alot of pots? Either burn their pots overtime or try to harass alot, force them out of lane or get a free kill that way. If you know that you can kill them, or think you can, use r while your W is up and running and then just execute them when they hit the sweet 25%. You might even get a flash out of them if they dont realise youve hit R, or if they're bad.

You aren't looking to be the hecarim charging into battle, you're more of a compliment to your team as a whole in team fights rather than being the sole champion that will alter the fight. With his tankyness from his good shield scaling on W, and decent damage thanks to his passive and lock on, + his R, he can be the DPS or the hitpoints you need to succeed in situations. Not to mention the fear you get from pulling off a successful R is quite large and can offer a window of opportunity to turn fights or secure a win.

Also understand that you have to chose ONE TARGET to go after, Urgot is not designed to engage multiple people: he strives by relentlessly going after one person with his rotation, and forcing them to either target him, or face death. Not to mention, if you do this correctly you should draw at least one other person to aid your target from their team, or that person will 80% of the time die in the 1v1, unless they out sustain you, as every time you fight someone with your R up, you effectively already have 25% of their hp gone ( as long as you use your ultimate correctly ). If you're unsure of who you should target and take out of the fight, ask your team, as your carry or your team will have an idea of which opponent will most likely disrupt or hurt your team the most.
