So what would be the new ''Burst mage'' build?

I have stopped playing league for a while and now I am gradualy coming back but I'm pretty confused about the new mage items... I left around the release of new .

I was already pretty dissapointed with the mage update item reworks because of the global removal of mana regen for mages, and now I'm trying to find my way around building maximum AP for a burst mage since I play a lot of Syndra and Lux so I want lots of damage output.

Obviously they now want to be the new so I always get that first. is a must if you want lots of AP. has kind of an awkward active that can be situational, but it gives 120 AP so I go for that. And after that I feel like all the items are similar but have different side effects.

So I get and I feel like if I wanted to go full damage would be the choice since it gives magic penetration? The health it gives is super misplaced in my opinion and since it's obviously an offensive item I would trade that anytimes for more AP... might even be a better choice since it's passives are supperior unless you are playing against heavy heal teams. gives a little more ap but feels kinda out of place on a burst mage. At some extent I feel like might be the best item for a max AP build since with only luden's and itself it gives over 100AP not counting base mana, runes and everything. Hell, getting would be better than luden's come to think about it... I feel like bruiser mage builds give more AP than burst mage builds...

Anyways, what are your thoughts? How do you build your burst mages?

general ap burst is ludens -> Oblivion orb/Sorc boots -> Deathcap/void/Utility item/finish morellos in whatever order you need them according to the game

If you're looking to burst squishies, double pen is always super efficient item 3020 item 3916 / item 3165 .

Ludens isn't bad, especially if you struggle with Mana sustain, and the flat AP and bonus base damage/scaling gives you something to scale with pen, but if you just trying to do the most damage possible the soonest possible Morello is stronger.

Rabadons is a luxury buy if you back while sitting on a lot of gold. Void staff is insane if you can justify it, and really cheap.

My build for Leblanc is as follows: item 3802 -> item 3020 -> item 3285 -> item 3916 -> item 3089 -> item 3135 -> whatever

You forgot some of the best burst items: item 3100 item 3146 Lets asume item 3285 item 3089 item 3135 and ~20ap from runes in adition, thats 480x1.4 = 672AP On lichbane, that's ~411 damage per proc, on Hextech it's ~454 damage, and you have some strong sustain for splitpushing, extra towerdamage from lichbane, and with ludesn+lichbane it's 30% cdr. With something like gathering strom you can get even higher values. On assasins that like to splitpush like Ekko or LB it's pretty strong. The main issue is that you don't have a real defensive item like zhonyas or banshies that way.

item 3907 can be good, but only on spamy champs that actually get it stacked, which tend to not be burst mages(though eve probably works if every Q counts as cast and not just the initial skillshot) item 3152 is used alot aswell, as it's very cost efficient for early burst, it may only give 60ap, but the actives damage is even higher than that off gunblade if used point blank, and it's cheap. item 3030 For raw burst, it's actuall stronger than Ludens, it has 10less AP, but the active does twice as much damage as the ludens proc - you'd need over 1000% ratio on your combo for the 10ap to make that up. If you aim for raw lategame burst, depending on the champ, item 3040 probably is strong aswell given the huge amount of ap it can give, atleast on champs with high ratios.

Though realistically, you usually go Ludends for good trades and sloid burst, get oblivion orb and sorc boots for some nice and cheap early pen, depnding on champ you add protobelt, lichbane or Rabadons, and then you most likely need a zhonyas or Banshie's cause a dead champs doesn't burst at all, and the round it all up with a voidstaff. Depending on how much mr you're oponents built, voidstaff would have a higher priority, and sometimes you'd want a defensive item more early.
