Why is suddenly everyone talking about Karthus? (From a Karthus main)

Recently read a great post titled "I'm a Karthus main since yesterday and the new item is gonna kill him" or something along those lines.

Great post, good sarcasm, but he's right. Why is suddenly everyone talking about Karthus?

I mean it sort of bothers me in a way because I'm a Karthus main. A REAL Karthus main. I have like 3-5 times more champ points on Karthus than my next highest champ.

It's a bit irritating that suddenly everyone is talking about my champion.

Honestly I'm terrified that Riot is gonna rework Karthus. Because honestly he's fine as he is. Numbers tweaking? Sure. But if they mess around with his kit, I would probably quit League on the spot.

But anyways, why is he suddenly now a topic of conversation?

Well because there is a new AD/MR item on the pbe that gives you a spellshield for 10 seconds after channeling for 1.5 seconds (you can move while channeling). On a 30 second cooldown..

I wouldn't call myself a Karthus main anymore but I do play him often enough that, yeah, this new item coming out is a pretty big indirect nerf to him.

I don't imagine Riot will ever rework Karthus, like you said his kit is perfectly fine; however though, it wouldn't be too surprising if they changed his ult eventually.

A spellshield item was made that has a 30-40ish second cooldown. People are worried Karthus ult will just be useless

Karthus is already not that good in competitive play which is a shame because he has a great niche (global presence). His global presence isn't that interesting anymore, because of the cooldown (200/180/160 and cdr being trash on karthus Q and E) and because of the amount of people hard countering karthus.

what made people talking about karthus to answer your question, is edge of the knight.

it's a new item that riot designed, giving after 1.5 seconds channeling a shield that protects you against spells for 10 seconds, and 30 seconds cd. it also has great stats and promises to be built on every adc/assassins/maybe bruisers. and then people are tired that karthus ulti is countered by 100% by many tools. that's why.

Because of the addition of a spell shield item that would directly counter his ult.
