Why does Irelia's Bladesurge go on cooldown?

Raynor1111··47 votes·3,295 views

I'm an Irelia main top, and I find it infinitely frustrating when I Bladesurge(Q) to a minion that dies before I get to it, and my ability goes on cooldown. The Wikia entry says that if the minion dies within a short time (less than a second) of using the ability, the mana will be refunded and the cooldown will be refreshed. Why is this not actually happening?

You know what I find infinitely frustrating? Laning against an Irelia.

"You'll get no sympathy from me!"

Just because the champion is strong doesn't mean her kit should be bugged or inconsistent.

It's a joke.

Irelia "What? You're beating me? Lawl, you're stunned BYE." Irelia "I'm kicking your ass, huh? Too bad you're slowed and can't get away."

Is this trying to buff Irelia !

it's a conspiracy !

Is Wikia just out-of-date/inaccurate? The description for the ability on League's web site says this activates if Bladesurge kills the target, which is consistent with what I've experienced in game.

From what I've noticed when I play if the minion dies shortly after I damage it, my mana and cd are refunded. But if I don't damage it before it dies I finish my dash but nothing gets refunded. That's my personal experience though, don't know if my frame rate or ping effect what I see, it happens fast.

It has to do with how abilities "hit" stuff in the coding. First the game says "this ability hits the minion" then after that it says "this minion takes this much damage" and if the minion dies the same frame as the first step or its death is initiated before the second step begins then you get the refund.

because you can't even cs with a skill made to help csing. gg bad

As someone who does GP, I understand your frustration at using q to last hit minions... that die before the skill lands, but the CD and mana cost still applies.

Ya those buggers sometimes die too quick before eating led, feelings like minions troll you. nothing oranges can't fix though am i right ;)

Eh, I've had times where it resets even if I don't kill a minion. It's not the cleanest ability. So it's just spaghetti code, I suppose.

Aeolian Melodies1 votes

Yeah definitely. I've had times where I get the gold but not the refresh and refund too lol.

I hate Irelia so I hope she has every bug possible 8)

an irelia I faced a while ago told me that all of her abilities proc trinity force? is that true?

if so, why is a champ with massive passive tenacity, true damage, a large heal, and pretty good tankiness allowed to have everything proc trinity force? I mean, you see these irelia's build nothing but triforce and botrk for offensive yet they still nuke the crap out of your carries, and even bruisers.

Terchio1 votes

All activation abilities on all champions will activate the effect, but only her autoattacks and her Q (Bladesurge) will proc it.

I Main Swain1 votes

well then there must have been a massive misunderstanding between us, bc the way she worded it made it sound like everything proc'd rageblade. either way though, I think that passive is too strong

Terchio1 votes

Rageblade is a different item. I assume you meant Trinity Force. If not, Rageblade does add a stack on every activatable skill, so all 4 on Irelia.

I Main Swain1 votes

oh sry I meant spellblade, but you know what I mean

Aeolian Melodies1 votes

Only her Q (which applies on hits) and her auto attacks spend the procs. Using Q, activating W, using E, and using R (every charge) will empower you, but you need to Q/AA to spend the proc. The reason why triforce has always been Irelia's favorite item is that she can get many procs in a rotation (6 total, Q, W, E, R, R, R) therefore triforce is a huge boost to her damage potential.

Terchio1 votes

I think it's moreso the low-cooldown Bladesurge tied to a dash that makes that viable. Her Tenacity helps there, too. Without Q, though, I don't think she'd hit many of those procs on footspeed alone.

CoolKnightST2 votes

Well if they nerf her, it would be a nice buff to compensate.

Because it's fukken buggeeeeh and I hate it.

That bug is super frustrating and you have to play it cool, because if the enemy realizes you messed up your Q's CD, they will go town on you.

Zombiemaster1 votes

I think this means if the target dies within a short time of your Q damaging it, that's when you get the CD and mana refresh.

The wiki says "within a very short time of performing Bladesurge." If the minion dies while you are still dashing to it, you haven't actually finished "performing" Bladesurge, so you won't get the refresh. This is the way I look at it anyway. Besides, I've noticed that it tends to be quite a buggy skill.

ElJanitorFrank1 votes

Because it's talking about AFTER you have damaged it with bladesurge. Not while in-flight towards the minion.

SoMNia1 votes

Unfortunately, the cooldown only resets if the target dies AFTER it's hit by Q. If it dies before you reach it, that effect is never triggered. I don't like it, either.

Aeolian Melodies1 votes

I assume the Wikia means that if the minion dies within that short window, starting AFTER you have damaged it with Bladesurge. Therefore if you don't reach the creep before it dies, it won't refresh.

Eh, it's a low cd low cost Irelia dash. It's frustrating when as Diana, you land a Q, go for the ham, and something happens while you're mid-air that doesn't let you hit your target. (Azirs wall, Jannas wind, Zhonyas, Trollpole, etc), now you have landed 0 R's on your enemy, and the thing is on cooldown for forever because the cd reset doesn't happen when you target a moonstung enemy, but when you actually hit it. I'm 100% sure it's the same thing with Irelia, if the guy died while you're midair, no reset for you.

Kairya1 votes

A dangerous discussion. You could also fix this problem, by removing reset and refund...

Didn't they give that to some champion where if there ability didnt hit them soon enough then it wouldnt go on CD?
