According to leagueoflegends.wikia.com, Supports make plays by enabling their allies through buffs and heals, or by disrupting enemy lines through crowd control. From laning to late game teamfights, supports create advantages and opportunities for their teammates to capitalize on. A skilled support gives their team the edge it needs to claim victory, and can turn the tide of battle with just one well-timed play

Sona is one support that has a harder time reaching the goal of a support. Here are some proposed changes to her base stats:

Sona - The Maven of Strings

Statistics Edit Health: 482 – 1791 Attack Damage: 50 – 101 Mana: 341 – 1106 Armor: 20.5 – 76.6 Mana Regeneration: 9.0 – 15.8 Magic Resist: 30.0 Ranged: 550 Movement Speed: 325

Health I was told to keep this short and concise. There is no reason that Sona should have the FIFTH lowest level 1 base health. The champions with the lowest hp are Anivia Heimerdinger and Lux. They all have either Long range, Protection, or a revive. What does Sona have? None of those.

Armor Low HP, Low Movespeed, Moderate Spell range, AND to top it off: Low armor. So instead of building stats that she so desperately needs cough (AP) cough she has to build Armor and HP. I would be okay with this if AP wasn't what made her spells so potent.

Mana Is there a reason that using your 30 (+ 20% Ability Power) heal 4 times empties your mana? Cough Cough Meanwhile Nami can heal double of that.

Changes to her Spells Power Chord: Tagging four enemies with any aura grants a stack of Power Chord and Crescendo Adds a stack as well.

Hymn of Valor: Cooldown Changed from 8 at all ranks to 10/9/8/7/6. Magic Damage changed from 40/80/120/160/200 (+ 50% AP) to 50/75/125/150/200 (+ 55% Ability Power). Bonus Magic Damage (Auto attack enhancer) changed from 20/30/40/50/60 (+20% AP) to 15/30/45/50/65 (+20% AP)[Sona's autoattack] and 15/30/45/50/65 (+30% AP)[Ally's autoattack]

[NEW]: Tagging an ally enhances their auto attack or single target spell for 3 seconds.

Context: It makes no sense for Sona's auras to give her an equal or more effect than the person she is buffing.

Aria of Perseverance: Cooldown Changed from 10 at all ranks to 10/9/8/7/6. Mana Cost Changed from 80/85/90/95/100 to 65/70/80/95/115. Minimum Heal changed from 30/50/70/90/110 (+ 20% AP) to 30/50/70/90/110 (+ 20% AP) [For herself] 50/70/90/110/130 (+ 35% AP) [For her Ally]

I will Add more on Song of Celerity but honesty, just give her allies stronger movespeed and not half of what she gets and make it not scale 1%

Aoe heal, move spead, damage reduction, ad boosts, aoe cc. Trying to see where she doesn't already fit the support role

She does, but isn't it harder for her to do that due to the flaws the poster pointed out?

Thank you, some people dont read. Im not saying Sona is complete garbage. I still do good with her, but she isnt up to par with other supports.

All of those values you just listed are laughably low And you clearly have no idea what you are on about with "AoE heal" and "AD boosts"

TNHA Baritone1 votes

"AD Boost" is magic damage. "AOE CC" is 1 spell while other supports have more potent cc. "AOE Heal" is the weakest ally heal in the game. "dmg reduction" scales directly with something she is punnished for building, "move spead" spead? speed is what you mean. oh and that increases 1% per lvl and also scales with ap, which she is punnished for building due to her squeamishness.

Sona has low base stats because her abilities are meant to make up for that, it's the same reason Ashe had her attack speed per level reduced when her new Q was introduced. The reason that Sona's heal costs so much mana is because she isn't a primary healer, she is primarily a poke/harass mage, she can poke an enemy mercilessly in lane to the point they want to just afk, she is weak against hard engage, but not so much if she is full health, if her heal were cheap enough to spam like her Q, she could keep herself and her ADC at full health all the time, making it incredibly hard to deal with her even as a direct counter.

I used to main Sona before I switched to solo lanes, I picked her up before hitting level 30 in season 3, and played her in the majority of my games up until a few months ago, during that time I rarely built health or resistances aside from the ones that were included as secondary stats on items, and managed to maintain a 5.59:1 KDA over 120 games this season. Having low health at level 1 isn't really a problem, she is the best lane bully of any support, so buffing her laning phase doesn't really make sense. Late game she scales with allies and has a great team fight presence when played well, if they were going to buff Sona then having her power increase a bit more than it does now with each rank in her ult would be a good place to start, or maybe just adding % magic pen as a passive stat to her ult.

If you're wondering why I no longer play her it's because what she does well is give your ADC a free lane, and if that ADC has no clue how to actually carry once they have a lead, then you might as well not even bother. If I'm duo with an ADC and I think they can actually carry, then I might still pick Sona.

There is seriously no reason for her to have the lowest movement speed in the game, not much reason anymore for her to have laughably low base stats in general, she is no longer a walking bundle of stats

If the idea that she has low movement speed because she has a MS skill, well there needs to be around 30+ champs getting their legs crippled because of that

Vesarixx1 votes

I can agree with you on the move speed, she has a slow and speed boost, but it isn't as much of a persistent effect as other champions that are balanced around that, like Ashe or Anivia. However, a base stat increase will not solve Sona's problems, she needs to scale better, not start out stronger.

Agreed, but the MS nerf she received was a real kick in the teeth, specially when you consider that it was right after her rework that most people did not like at all

Yeah, I posted so much at the time trying to get them to reconsider the changes and suggesting alternative changes, but never got a singe response. really not a fan of Riot fearless. I'm not saying Sona doesn't need buffs, I'm just saying the ones OP suggested are buffs in the wrong place, her laning is fine, but late game she isn't really what she used to be. Tempo has a lot less uptime now, so the pseudo perma slow she used to be able to have at max cdr is gone. Increasing the duration of tempo would be a start, or alternatively I've suggested having her spells work on a charge effect, similar to Varus' Q, but without the self slow, longer charge would mean a greater effect but longer cool down, W for example would heal for more if fully charged, with the shield unaffected, W would be a higher speed boost or at max charge, a dash. This would allow Sona's kit more flexibility, you could still kite quite well with constant applications of tempo, by using the partial charges of your spells, or charge them up fully for a greater effect, depending on what you needed. Also, since you could see it coming if Sona wanted to get a fully charged ability off, her fully charged abilities could be quite a bit stronger, as telegraphing abilities frees up a lot in terms of a champions power budget. A buff to the effects of diminuendo would be pretty nice as well, a duration buff would probably be best.

Season 3 is different from Season 5.

"she is the best lane bully of any support"

Ever heard of Annie? Blitzcrank? Lulu? Uhh? Lol She is NOT the best lane bully of any support.

"she can poke an enemy mercilessly in lane to the point they want to just afk, she is weak against hard engage, but not so much if she is full health, if her heal were cheap enough to spam like her Q, she could keep herself and her ADC at full health all the time, making it incredibly hard to deal with her even as a direct counter."

Ever heard of Nami? Soraka?

"during that time I rarely built health or resistances aside from the ones that were included as secondary stats on items, and managed to maintain a 5.59:1 KDA over 120 games this season."

Then your enemies didn't do anything to stop you, they weren't good. Nowadays, junglers see Sona as free gold. Nami can do everything Sona can do earlier and better. There should not be a champion who is completely out classed by another especially in the same role.

I didn't say this was season 3, I said I've been playing her since then, major difference.

With the amount of Blitzcranks I've bullied out of lane and even caused to rage quit I'd say Sona wins over him, the same applies to lulu and annie, they have decent poke but no sustain, and annie relies on all in since a poke war vs Sona will always go in Sona's favor, same with Lulu.

Nami and Soraka ARE primarily healers, neither of them have even close to the poke that Sona has, the issue isn't with having a heal, it's with having both massive poke, and a heal.

Over 120 games you're convinced none of the enemies I faced were any good? People tried to kill me all the time, I only built defense if I thought they had a chance at actually succeeding, usually Zhonias, as well as good positioning was enough to keep from dying needlessly. People see Sona as free gold because they are used to the ones that don't know what they are doing, if you're good at the champion then you should be correcting that outlook.

The reason I don't prioritize defense is that even if you do gen engaged on, you have low mobility and a very short stun, you're not going to be able to just walk it off like an Alistar with 2-3 tank items, chances are, if you get engaged on, you're dead, so why not build items that are a lot more useful and just avoid the opportunities for the enemy to all in you in the first place. If you're dying a lot it's not because of a lack of tank items, it's usually due to bad positioning. From the look of your match history, you don't seem to be building much for defense either, which is strange considering how important you seem to think it is

I try I TRY I really try to talk to people without looking them up because that does not prove anything but you claim that you face good enemies in a portion of 120 games but you're Silver? Uh...1) Riot balences on pro play because they know what they're doing and they play what will make them win (which is why they dont play Sona). 2) You're Silver...the chances of you meeting someone who is actually good is...microscopic. 3) Even in Gold...(Just so you know I was not bashing you because of your rank). I dont build her tanky, neither do 2/3 of the other Sona mains. Not even the best Sona does. We all know how important AP is. AP>Every Other stat on Sona. Im complaining because that should no the case given her base stats being so low. If you build her tanky of course you're not gonna have a high death avg. but you also rarely have a real impact when using non ult abilities. As you can see, my match history has me building Meja's Soulstealer on Sona in almost every game and I do well with it, so its not positioning. It is the fact that Sona has incredibly low base stats on basically every part of her and under fed inexperienced assassins who have dashes and blinks can easily walk up to her with her 1 cc and dodge it, then instagib. Then again...Tank Sona's only real use is her ult.

usually Zhonias

You mean the 3000 Gold item? Oh...lol on a support budget...Thats laughable. The only other item that I could see giving that amount of AP being worth on Sona is Ludens for the movespeed that she so desperately lacks and selling an inferior item late game for Rabadons.
