I just got camped super hard as mid and here's what I learned.

First of all, I'm a Karma OTP with over 500 games on her in ranked (plat elo) and I have never went versus a Nautilus mid. I poked him down super early, trying to be aggressive because he is melee. Then I realized, I was being overly aggressive, and I got ganked by Elise...not once...not twice....not three times...but a total of 5 times back...to back....to back. All of them were elaborate flashy plays which I was very impressed by. However I found myself, for the first time ever, tilting and putting myself down. I kept thinking, "Karma OTP loses to guy who barely plays Nautilus". Then I stopped after the last gank. I covered up my score with my finger. I realized that, what happened in the past doesn't matter, if I don't plan out the future. So here's what I prioritized:

  • Vision - Bought a 2 pink wards whenever I could. Placed my Farsight Alteration in spots that wouldn't get checked frequently.

  • Items - I got inexpensive items like Void Staff and items that would help my team rather than me like Athene's Unholy Grail.

  • Roaming - I roamed bot a lot to protect the ADC and I helped push towers.

  • Positioning - It's hard to not get caught out when they have a Jhin, Zyra, GP, Elise, and Nautilus. Once I got combo'd by their CC, resulting in a sixth death, I realized that if I can hit the enemy with a Q, then I'm too close to them. Rather than trying to offensively poke as if I were ahead, I defensively peeled and played back as I was ahead, sure to shield my carries every chance I got, which ultimately brought us to victory.

Here's what I didn't prioritize:

  • Chat - The ADC was being a bit aggressive in chat making passive aggressive remarks, but you could see the intent in his words; he wanted to win. I used pings mainly. If they were offensive, I'd have muted chat.

  • Farm - While farming may one cornerstone to winning games, if you're buying inexpensive items, it's better to let the hard-carries have the farm.

  • Blame - Similar to chat, but I didn't blame my jungler. She tried her best and I put myself in her shoes, she was a Diana, not necessarily strong early. She farmed and helped other lanes. It was pretty mutually agreed that I fucked up but was trying my best to win.

  • Carrying - You do not have to carry every game. Getting carried, isn't bad. It doesn't mean you're bad either, that was one of the first games where I could say that I single-handedly almost lost it for my team, but because of my decisions, I ensured that I didn't make anymore mistakes that would lose us the game.

Went from 0-6, to 4-6-16. If I can do it, so can you. I understand that because of my champion choice it can be easier to contribute from being behind, but you can do it with any champion. All you need to do is slow down, and think. Do not tilt. BLOCK IT OUT. Chose to win.

We need more of you in the League community. Well done!

I agree with you but at the same time you were playing a champ that works as a utility play style (try doing this with a kat). You have high mechanical skill/game knowledge so you are making less crucial mistakes than say a silver level player who misses skillshots or dosnt shield the right person at the right time. This is all GREAT advice dont get me wrong. However its not a success story that every player is capable of replicating just by being more of a team player and not flaming.

Too many people on the boards think that not getting mad has magical powers to make you win. In my opinion its a prerequisite to playing lol but most people don't understand that.

Tip for mid players, ALWAYS buy pinks. You simply can't have vision on both your sides without it. I usually place mine in the mini brush near rift Harold. You'd be surprised how often people miss checking that.

Huh, never even occurred to me that I could even have two pinks in inventory.

I have brought shame to my fellow ward slaves supports.

I can somewhat relate...for some reason it always tilts me when I destroy someone in lane, two other lanes fail spectacularly and the enemy gets carried hard.

Just had such a game, Vel'Koz vs a Zed. Dude didn't manage to kill me once in the lanephase, got one measly kill roaming cause i pinged to high hell and wrote in ALL CAPS where he was headed to, lane was lit up with a Christmas tree. Jungler Lee is good helps when he can, top is 50/50, botlane Jinx/Pantheon (?) feeds like they want to put the Red Cross the shame. They did always admit failing so I didn't flame or anything but Pantheon rushed in yoloign with ulti agai nand again and again. Come lategame Zed gets two quadras with magical lasthitting skills (Zed is my 5th most played, that lasthit is magic KS in teamfights and I know it). Teammates have around 10 deaths, I- only 2. Game once again gives me S- and denies me mastery 7 despite having the most farm on both teams and lots of kills and assists.

Tell me, how to NOT get tilted when I see people I destroy and is plain to see are worse and don't deserve the victory get it handed to them on a silver platter by my teammates.

And that's one of the reasons why many players prefer OW and CS and their general type of games. There you can have a failing teammate, but not a feeding one. There are no items or levels or gold. Here you can barely do anything if they feed the enemy's adc cause he 2-shots you with AAs you can't dodge, save for a few abiltiies on a few champs.

TL;DR It's not losing that tilts me. Losing a match unfairly when I am clearly better than the other guy tilts me.

Wait yiu can only have 1 pink at the map at once why buy 2?

If only people in bronze/silver took these lessons to heart. People at low elo think if they're behind they have go even more ham and try to force a flashy play to get back ahead. They're obsessed with the number of kills their team has vs. the kills the enemy team has instead of focusing on pressuring objectives and making smart safe plays.

I still miss the old time when you could buy green wards as midlaner :(

I think another major thing people don't realize is you don't have to fight. You can land a Q on an enemy and attack them? Think about it-- do you have vision on everybody? Can you kill them? Will you risk dying? Unless you're confident you'll win, don't bother. Just let them walk away. You can win a game without fighting; to win you need towers, not kills. Fighting should only happen at contested objectives or when somebody is out of position/made a mistake and you can get gold out of it.

I had a game with Vayne top v Mundo. They had an AFK so i told everybody 'just farm and we'll win.' Because that's what the laning phase is; getting gold, getting prepared for the mid game. You do it with CS. She was eventually 0/8 and we lost because she kept running up to the Mundo and dying or getting ganked. But why? Vayne is a late game champion. It means you just need to not die for enough time and you win. Kills give you gold faster but minions give you gold safer. We lost a 4v5 because the Vayne wouldn't stop fighting and feeding.

Another game i had our team chased kills and fought 1v3s and stuff at every turn. Between me(support) and the ADC, we made up 85% of our teams kills. And we still couldn't close it out-- had they just not fought every opportunity we would have won easily. Instead, we had a gruesome siege involving a banner of command and Zz'rot portal that nearly lost us the game.

It sorta goes hand in hand with the 'let yourself be carried' thing, but I also think it warrants its own bullet point. Decision making is the most important aspect of the game.

"one of the first games where I could say that I single-handedly almost lost it for my team, " But you said you are plat elo, meaning by the time plat elo rolls around, this can't conceivably be "one of your first games" of any kind. That just doesn't make any sense at all. That's actually reiterating the phrase "I very, very seldom have bad games." Not even Dyrus could say that in his prime.

not prioritzing farm, and leaving it to the carries is an interesting concept.

Learnt something new as I play support mids.

You mean Athene's Holy Grail helped your team but Void Staff didn't, right? Not the other way around?

Troll for Trump7/7/2016, 2:23:19 AM1 votes

Wards- cut down by Riot, less vision. As the game progresses, you don't have enough wards to cover the whole map.

Pink wards will be destroyed by the laner or jgler if they are camping. They will camp more gank more, make more flashy plays if they are premade and doing the lane camp thing. You can't keep recalling.

If you are the one being pushed, you have even less chances to ward.

People can't just "not tilt".

Not as easy as chanting "don't tilt" and blam-o you don't get tilted, especially not with the amount of things people do to try and tick you off.

Bro, I am 10,000x more rage fueled than you. My idea of a good time is sitting around thinking of ways to kill people. I cannot block it out. You are wrong if you think I cant. That said, good job not feeding anymore.
