5.14 Runeglaive and Another Small Rant

Why would I just not buy a Lichbane and completely forgo a jungle item?

This is what I thought upon reading the Runeglaive update. I understand that Riot wants the jungle items to be used primarily in the jungle, and by changing Runeglaive's aoe damage to only affect jungle camps they have made it so this jungle item stays in the jungle. However, the problem is that outside of the jungle it is completely useless compared to Lichbane.

The large majority of Ap junglers have very fast clear times after a few levels. So they really don't need Runeglaive for clear speed. This means that other than the mana regen that Runeglaive gives (depending on your item build you might now even need that) Ap jungler's are just getting a worse version of Lichbane. So what's the point of even getting Runeglaive?

From the Patch Notes: "On the topic of the changes themselves: while this certainly reduces Runeglaive's PvP combat power..." You mean completely removed it?

I've been against Runeglaive from day one. It hurts Fiddle and removes my Katarina jungle completely.

Yeah, the changed to runeglaive is extremly bad because they made runeglaive an ap farming item now, since it doesnt proc on champs, just monsters.

they should have just given magus this ap farming mechanism or something like it. autos and ap spells burn for % ap perhaps to monsters.

It has similar mechanics now to cinderhulk, which is in a really good spot. Both deal double damage to jungle creeps. Cinderhulk still deals aoe damage outside the jungle, while RG doesn't anymore, but clearing minion waves wasn't the main purpose of RG.

A lot of AP junglers still had to AA the small minions a few times because their AOE didn't quite kill them. This problem gets solved with the AOE. The higher damage to the big creep will certainly improve clear speed.

Yes, RG effect is weaker than lich bane's, but the item is also cheaper and has a lot of other utility, similar to how cinderhulk is weaker than sunfire cape in PvP combat. Why even buy sunfire cape/lich bane if the cheaper jungle item with lots of more utility dealt more dmg?

Note that you now clear faster, so you have more gold/exp and/or more time to gank or force objectives.
