Okay, so mastery means nothing.

That's what I always hear. "Mastery doesn't mean skill, it just means someone plays a champ a lot."

If that's the case, doesn't it seem kind of pointless? It'd be better to just list hours played, rather than giving people the false impression that someone is good with a champion. I'm Master 6 with Support Nasus but that apparently means nothing. That teammate top who's playing Mastery 7 with Darius, he might actually be a horrible Darius, but we're expecting him to carry us and some of our team is feeling lazy because of it. The Rengar on the other team who keeps flashing his mastery emote, he's probably garbage. Just bluffing us. But it still intimidates some of us. Worse yet, our Lee Sin is doing it and all it's doing is wasting time that could be used not getting caught by skillshots.

Granted, most of that paragraph is sarcasm, but honestly. If mastery is nothing more than time played, why not just record time played? It seems to me it'd be a lot less prone to create division than this misleading mastery system.

Mastery means even less now since you can get it from playing urf, aram or dominion.

Mastery gives a little peace of mind that atleast your mates know its not first time pick. There is almost no badge that you can make, that can only achieved by skill. No matter what you do people will lie, cheat and steal to get it

It never had a meaning, if anything.

The only thing you get out of it is a pretty sticker that people don't really give a shit about.

Except that it is for rito to make you spend rp or ip for it

Cosmetics have often required for people to spend on it for the longest time, this isn't anything new or even out of the ordinary.

The idea of "pay to look prettier", you see?

Mastery 5 doesn't mean much in terms of skill, just that they played it a lot (It potentially meant slightly more on the first few days, where the only way to quickly get level 5 involved actually getting good grades). Mastery 6 and 7 mean slightly more than mastery 5 since it means you had to play well with the champion 2/5 times, but it doesn't necessarily mean that you're good at the champion, since you may have earned your mastery tokens in particularly stompy games while queuing with low mmr friends in normals or something along those lines (or even just have good games 1/100 times, but on average perform poorly).

Since although your mastery grade takes into account role, your mastery level is not role specific so no one knows if you got mastery 6 on top nasus or support nasus. Theres plenty of mains who occasionally pick their main in off-meta roles (e.g. sup nasus), and while sometimes it goes ok simply by virtue of them being so familiar at the champ, it does not mean that it's a good choice in the big picture.

actually I'm surprised on how hard it is to actually GET lvl seven for many champs. i have have 4 champs lvl 6 but only one token for my lvl 7. part of this issue is many of my "S" games i got before i hit lvl 5 when you get no tokens, and a few of my lvl 6 tokens was also from an "S"

abut even when i do get at lvl 6 i keep getting S- "S" or "S+" is harder to get than you think and when you consider that ALL three "S" or higher tokens have to be obtained AFTER you reach lvl 6. it will take a while. by that time the person really HAS learned that champ
