A huge part of why "Elo Hell" is considered a thing.

Now, this is simply a PART I am not saying this is the whole reason nor am I providing a solution, I am simply addressing an issue. (TL;DR at bottom)

When you start league, from day one you're vsing people better than you, who do things better than you, you get better, whether it be slow or fast, you get better.

When you get ranked however, this slows down.

It's hard to learn from people that are worse or the same as you, sure you can look at guides or what not, but it's never the same as experiencing things first hand, when people are ranked and get stuck, quite often it's because they stop learning, they wouldn't stay there if they didn't stop learning.

There are multiple reasons why people stop learning, let's look at the main ones:

First we have the most talked about learning gate.

Attitude, having a negative attitude towards the game inhibits learning and causes negativity on a large spectrum.

This is very true, and very huge, however there's a lot more than that.

Second. Lack of things to learn from/ Vsing the same.

Now, when people are stuck in a division, let's say... Bronze 5, they would more often than not be vsing other people stuck in bronze 5, what is there to learn from other people? Sure people say, look at your mistakes and learn off of them but a huge problem here is PEOPLE AREN'T GOOD ENOUGH TO KNOW THEY'VE MADE A MISTAKE OR HOW TO IDENTIFY IT. Why is this? They're used to it, to them it might even be normal. In short, you won't learn off of someone who is worse / the same as you, not as much as you would someone better than you.

Sure there can be smurfs, but people stuck in this ELO have a very common mindset of 0 SKILL, they don't say, this person is better than me what can I learn, they say this person is just using an OP champion, why do they say this? Because they're not used to vsing it, they next to never see this in their ELO, they don't see it often enough to think that this is a superior way of doing things. This also comes under mindset but it is a combination of both.

Now, there are definitely ways to learn such as: Advice from people who are better, Watching people who are better and guides... But there's a huge one I've left out for one main reason, it is hard to come across.

When you are going from level 1 - 30 You are constantly vsing people better than you, you're bad but you're still vsing them, you're actively getting to vs people better, there's heaps of room to improve, but when you hit level 30, you're ranked, if you play bad, you don't get to vs people better to improve but you vs people the same skill level as you, learning becomes much more scarce, the ability to notice your mistakes isn't as good either.

Now I know I said I wouldn't be proving a solution but I will still mention some solutions that could work.

  • League provides a mentor system and rewards for positive mentors.

-League creates a completely different ranking system that encourages improvement more..

-League makes a professional guide system.

Now while you may have debates or not agree with what I just said but I'm happy to debate those concerns with you, if you have misunderstood something or find something to be wrong, comment about it, I'll happily discuss it.

TL;DR: It's harder to improve vsing the same skill level.

EDIT:

Just to make myself clear, the point of this thread is to address that it is harder than it should be to learn new things in league, in this thread I have referenced some of the reasons why its harder but definitely not all of them, there's a lot of things that the average player doesn't know because the lack of information put in front of players, the tutorials don't cover near as much as they should.

You say that there's nothing to learn from people at your own skill level- high elo players say that it's easier to see your mistakes vs them. High elo players will just stomp you into the ground. It's really hard to learn anything when they're better at everything. If your opponents are just as skilled as you are, you're easily able to pinpoint why they killed you, and hypothetically you should be able to avoid that next time.

I didn't say nothing "learning becomes much more scarce"

I like the idea of a mentor system. It'd be cool to make finding a teacher/student easy to do in-client, with maybe a kind of profile with a checklist of things you'd like to learn/teach.

as far as im aware of: Elo hell is a mindset of endless tilting and illogical rationale.

Fact of the matter is the enemy is the same elo as you. Someone has to win. Elo hell cant be true for everyone. Therefore it cant be real. simple as that. Absolute statements like Elo hell being real cannot be subjective.

I don't believe in Elo Hell, that's why I said "Elo hell" I am simply addressing the idea of elo hell.

Elo hell is the elo where your personal skill cant make up for the rather big luck/ random factor anymore. Feel free to quote me on that Kappa

it's not just versing the same skill level, it's the fact your skill level is appraised based on how well your team does match to match. A great player can always be matched against great players, but unless he's with great players the game tells them they aren't great.
