Is Malzahar strong? I'd like some counters as well?

I havent really played that much since the update though he's frequently banned so I'm led to believe he's either garbage, really strong, or people just don't feel like dealing with his rework. In the event that I actually lane against him or jungle, who goes good against him?

He has a crazy amount of control in lane or in the jungle right now, they are hoping to tone him down so he wont be so overwhelming, the champion pool who can fight him should increase a tad based on his mana costs increase and neutral monster damage reduction. id suggestion anybody who has rapid abilities and aoe damage, clear his first voidling before it spawns more(in the jungle use your smite if its not at an objective), thats a huge part of his power right now, use a less valuable ability to proc his new passive which is very powerful if you try to all in him while its up. avoid his visions best you can and if you have it on you try not to get hit by his other abilities, they reset the timer and it can last easily 10 seconds on someone. He is vicious right now but thats why i love him, and why he must die xD

He's just barely above the mid ranged mage category, but there are still Mages out there that can just straight up fire at him from outside of his range. As Malzahar lacks the ability to clear distances quickly, and because these types of mages also come equipped with the poke to keep his passive at bay, I'd imagine that these long ranged tactical mages give him trouble.

Malzahar is at his absolute strongest facing those with less effective range than him. Trick is to stay out, methinks.

90+% ban rate. His passive is beyond broken. Either ban, first pick, or dodge if enemy gets it until nerfs.
