Why is Taliyah a strong mid right now?

I don't usually look at these lists tbh. I mean I won my lane and did pretty well after not playing her for more than a year (it was against a mid Ashe of all the random things i could see today) and her burst seems really good. However her waveclear feels pretty crappy if I don't use WE/Q which is quite a bit of mana for each wave.

I also found myself struggling to actually damage the target i wanted to focus with her Q (no splash on her Q anymore.) So say i land WE on like 1-3 people, I usually end up losing a rock or two to a minion or body block since the splash is gone. I get that they nerfed her because of pro play but I'm just having a hard time understanding why Tier lists say she's good. I really liked her before so I was hoping that she would feel good to play mid now instead of just the jungle. (personally i hate it when they do that I've been playing for almost 6 years and I still am not interested enough to be okay with that.)

She definitely feels rewarding to play when you're ahead like I was my last game. Though I'm not too comfortable blowing my anti-gank defenses every time i need to shove a wave. :(

It’s the same reason A Sol is really good. Look at her passive and ult.

I've exclusively been playing her support lately and it's been pretty comfortable. Agreed that she feels weak mid and jung, especially early.

Taliyah excels at roaming. Her waveclear was nerfed because her sheer speed through the jungle and the ganks she can pull off with ult allow her to roam faster than most other champions. If she could instantly clear the wave without spending a lot of mana for it, she'd be busted.
