Is Riven an Assassion or a Fighter?

Riven

Riven is noted as a fighter primary, assassin secondary. But is she really a fighter, or just a melee assassin?

What makes a fighter different from an assassin?

I play a lot of Riven on my main, and I'd say Riven is both... Fighters usually have more sustained damage than assassins, who have burst damage. Riven can deal very high amounts of burst damage AND sustained damage. She can easily dive into their team and delete the enemy ADC or other squishies before they can react, while still dealing large amounts of AOE damage in teamfights (if not focused and locked down) She may also be considered an assassin due to her good roaming potential and high mobility from Q and E. Most assassins go mid and most fighters go top, but Riven can go in either lane if played correctly. Again, these are just some of my views on Riven.

I'd say she is an assassin more than a fighter.. when I think of fighter I think tanky. But maybe that's wrong..

I been thinking the same,

She build damage primary, yet she isn't a pure AA like Tryndamere MasterYi Fiora . She has similar play style to Zed .

Due to her E, she gets "tankier" the more damage she builds. EDIT: Plus, as Riven, you usually do not want to go all damage. You need sustain from something like Mallet, Warmogs, or GA so you don't get blown up instantly in teamfights.

light fighter. Her CDR is really low and jumps in and out of combat. assassins tend to burst and walk away or die.

I think she is not mobile enough to be considered a real Assassin. The fighter role fits her better since she has some utility and small AoE dmg whilst offering good amount of sustain and burst dmg.

She still has the execution power of a Assassin though.

Simply put, a full ad fighter is closer to an assassin than a bruiser. With full build and 4-5 offensive items, they will destroy carries as fast as an assassin.

imo, it's one of the problems with the fighter class.

The difference between fighter and assasis is that assasins usually have more upfront burst and mobillity/are more slippery but have less dps and tankiness than fighters. fighters then could get differt in light-fighters, wich are more close to assasins(riven would fit here) and bruiser, wich go more into the direction of off-tanks. Ligh fighters usually have less burst but more dps than assasins, less range on the gapcloser but overall higher infight-mobillity and slightly more tankiness.

  • Riven only got short range on each jump/dash, but 3Qs and low cd on E so she can use that mobillity frequently.
  • Talon got high range on his E, and it's instant, but on high cd, so it's easier to suprisingly reach a target, but harder to retreat or chase it down.

Bruisers have a bit less damage and less mobillity than light-fighters, but are more tanky and usually have some cc.

  • Jax and irelia are good examples, both have a skill on fairly low cd that gets em into the fight, but no skill that get's them out so they have to be tanky enough to facetank some dmg, both are more dps focused but with damage-spikes, both have a stun.
