Can’t Relate to The Hate

Ifneth··15 votes·2,782 views

I’m having a good time playing League. Laning phase is exciting, but not game-deciding. The mid-game is a fast-paced contest of rotations and decisions. Late-game is a tense and careful struggle.

Yet all I see are these hate threads. Too much damage, toplane irrelevant, tanks OP, better ADC wins. I know that people come to the boards to vent, but I’ve never related less. This got me thinking: I play Taliyah in Silver III. Could it just be that I’m insulated from all this?

Give me a hand here, if you can explain it to me.

Boards is almost always hate threads, since the people who are having a good/ok time are busy playing the game and don't see any great need to make a thread about their ok time.

Riot did release some stats awhile back indicating that top lane is only a real issue at high elo. Tanks tend to work best with at least slightly coordinated teams so they're shining in pro play. Better adc wins is more a matter of how the game in general is pretty snowbally, and if bot lane wins, that generally means two players (adc and support) are snowballing, compared to other lanes which only result in one person snowballing.

I do find it odd how people argue "Game is too snowbally, worst player decides the game" and "Better botlane wins" at the same time though, since the former implies even a solo laner getting super fed (off the worst player) can solo carry independent of the state of bot lane.

So... why am I reading the boards, again? I don’t think that getting a daily dose of this stuff could be good for me if it’s just nonsense. :(

On pro, I remember that you need to ban GP and Gnar and maybe Camille if you want to pick a tank, so it’s a better champ but eats a lot of draft resources. This creates a problem for solo-queue balance because tanks can more easily leak through balance phase.

don't misunderstand though, once in a blue you can find a coherent thread sparking legitimate conversation

The short answer is that it seems like you're relatively new. If you haven't played League since the earlier seasons (4, maybe 5 and before), you won't know what the hell people are on about.

The game used to be a lot slower and a lot more balanced. Possibly more snowbally, but with more opportunities to turn it around than this meta offers. Turnarounds are exceedingly rare.

Ive played through all the seasons. This one is the best by far.

I wouldn't say it's the best, but it certainly isn't any near as bad as people make it out to be.

This kind of gloom and doom happens literally every season, hell, half the things being bitched about and hated now were all but begged back in the day that this community decides to ignore.

"Games are drawn out too long and are boring."

"I hate that tanks don't do any damage."

"Why do bruisers get to run the meta."

Funny, but yeah, just ignore it and have fun.

Rewt2 votes

Thing about the bruiser argument is that it actually has some legs in the fact that bruisers/divers are quite hard to balance.

They need to be resiliant, and they need to do damage, but where is the balancing point?

I have had the discussion before and ive never managed to find the point. So i dont blame riot for Bruisers and divers being OP or UP because its really fucking hard to balance them.

Oh, that isn't really my argument, just find it funny that just about everything that is complained about now was bitched about back in the day and damn near begged for. I can't be the only one who remembers the QQ threads about games being far too long and how boring and dull they were, I can't be the only one who remembers people saying how useless tanks were and how ANYONE who said that they don't want tanks doing damage was VERY quickly downvoted.

Rewt3 votes

yea I was one of the guys who didnt want tanks to do damage and was against the 60min average game length.

so i got downvoted into oblivion for trying to bring up the point that tanks are facilitators, not carries.

Oh me too, and I was downvoted for and saying not knowing what I was talking about, so hey, we got what people asked for, woooooooooh, you mean champions with obscene amounts of cc doing damage while you can't do anything back isn't enjoyable to play against, WOW who would have thought.

Reap what you sow.

Yeah, their items, too. Black Cleaver gives AD, HP, Armor Shred, 20% CDR, and mobility. If that ball of stats is strong, then so will its users be.

There is a lot of people on the forums and everyone shares different opinions. Like me personally, I love when games are drawn out and I don't care if it might feel boring. I like when the game averages 45 mins long that can go to 60 mins, as then it usually is decided on 1 intense team fight and shows real skill with positioning and team fighting, instead of this find 1 strong person on your team and camp them and let them carry you to victory with 20 min Barons + Banner.

But yea you are right that threads like this do appear in every season lol.

Plays wave clear mage that all he does is wave clear roam bot wave clear roam bot and is the most meta sht enforced by riot. Says the game is fine. Well usually if someone is part of the problem he doesn't see the problem. I don't know what game you play where games are fast paced and exciting and laning phase has any meaning but it's not lol.

Kinda jealous of people who understand Taliyah's kit (Along with a few other champions whose kits I don't fully understand). With her abilities and utility she looks like a fun champion to play but I moved past it into the ADC Role. I could be wrong here but I think most value winning the game over actual gameplay. idk really

Ifneth3 votes

Aw, that’s sweet. :)

Here’s how you use her.

Laning Phase Push the wave with her Threaded Volley and then look for chances to punish opponents for standing outside the cover of their minions. At level 2, take Unraveled Earth to punish them for standing too close and push the wave more. If you’ve done enough damage, look for an all-in after Level 3, when you should have Seismic Shove. Use Unraveled Earth to slow your opponent before going for the combo.

Roaming All-in the minion wave. All-in the minion wave. All-in the minion wave. Few champs can clear as fast as you do. Once the wave hits the tower, roam to place wards, eat honey fruit, take Scuttle Crab, help your jungler with invading or Dragon or Herald, or the legendary Taliyah roams. Walk near walls to use your rock-board for the bonus movement speed.

Skirmishes Your combo cooldown is massive. You must wait until an opponent has no escapes or is already crowd-controlled before using it. Watch their positioning and try to predict where they will run. Align yourself with that direction and use your Threaded Volley to deal inescapable damage.

Teamfighting Taliyah’s worked ground mechanic, long combo cooldown, and lack of combat ultimate mean that scaling mages will just do more damage later, especially in confined spaces. You want to stand away from your team and look to split the enemy with your Weaver’s Wall or find a juicy pick.

Negative feedback is more common than positive. It ends up leading to a vocal minority situation.

Think about it this way; How likely are you to go out of your way to open up a web page and make a post saying things are good? Now, how likely are you to do the same if you think things are bad?

Its all it is. Most people are happy and content.

Ifneth2 votes

HEY! I MAKE SUCH PAGES SOMETIMES!

[sg-shisa]

...but I see your point.

3TWarrior2 votes

is there a public poll for all of the players (hmm, like a big popup that might ask how satisfied you are with the game and to check mark anything that is wrong with it?)

no, then there is no confirmation that everyone is happy. The BOARDS are RIOT's OFFICIAL source of feedback and game concerns, but they go to REDDIT more often than their own forums or client.

then there's another problem. If there is an official poll, how do the players verify its integrity and that it is free of bugs and/or bias?

Pika Fox1 votes

Public pole where? On a random website like the LoL boards where maybe 4% of the LoL population visits? (and thats being very very generous)

They go to reddit more often because have you seen the league boards? Its a cesspool. It needs much more heavy vetting and moderation to remove the constant useless threads of nothing but QQ.

By showing all the information as well as showing there to be a control and what that has shown them. Theres a proper scientific method to surveys and the like.

3TWarrior1 votes

they have hosted polls within the game itself before...

and reasonably, the only method you could use to make sure a poll is not biased is to ask random people from all origins if enough concerns are being addressed with the poll

a pre-poll poll and even that is not fool-proof.

I bring this up because the last time riot hosted a public survey, the questions were biased and misleading without room for input

Everything you described is very rare. In my ranked games lane phase ends quickly, usually because I as the jungler dive the enemy bot lane. We get two free kills and take tower. Then we take dragon. Then we back, spend the 2500g lead we just got, and use that advantage to take mid or top.

By the time we take mid or top, the enemy bot lane has reached our bot tower. They either take it, or they die. Either way, we take one or two of their turrets, their jungle, and we ward their jungle completely. They slowly starve while we box them in and take more free turrets.

Then we juse that massive lead to bait them into face-checking baron, or fighting us over it. We are stronger so we win the fight. Then we take baron. Then we take the inhibitor. Then we win.

This is about 85% of matches for me. There are no close games. We do this to them, or they do this to us.

Wow, that sounds like not much fun. A plat friend told me the same. It’s stomp or be stomped up there.

Yup, me neither. I am quite happy with League's balance state this past couple of patches

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't really have a problem with the game in general. I see a lot of complaints and I can't help but wonder where it's coming from. lol Yeah I lose a lot, but that's because I'm actually pretty bad at this game, so I kind of expect it. But I don't really think the game is in such a horrible state, and I think a lot of things are a lot more viable than some people think.

Fack you Brad3 votes

I do agree that some parts of the game aren't as satisfactory as other people have hoped, but I still have fun playing since season 1. A major part of the outcry is due to response bias. People who feel more strongly about the state of the game will be more likely to voice their opinions than those who don't.

BLACK REALM GOD2 votes

you're playing meta. possibly with friends. in new account bracket.

taliyah mid means 2 things.

1 you're the only person in your lane therefore you dont have to deal with teamwork like bottom or jungle.

2 you dont get punished as much if you die because your lane is shorter.

because of these two things yes you're technically insulated from the gameplay that generates hate.

if you want to experience the hate then try to take taliyah top and see how your team reacts. or better yet say you want to support as taliyah.

orrrrr die two times in a row before 10 minutes. see what happens.

bet it wont be all sunshine and daisies.

edit

i didnt finish my post. whoops.

the game mechanics are a bit unbalanced when playing against certain match ups. I think a lot of this stems from the binary effects of keystones and the lack of certain item niches

2Charmnot2Charm2 votes
  1. you're playing a meta mid

  2. Anything can happen in your elo because the players don't know how to abuse mistakes or use their leads to end the game faster.

If the enemy team made a mistake like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cApVG_NN68&feature=youtu.be in your game it wouldn't matter to you because in your elo the jinx/lulu would have done something stupid to bring blue team back into the game.

Sadly for the enemy team my jax listened to my call to camp our lane after that screw up by them so me and jinx can farm safely after taking first tower super early and it got to the point where me and jinx can 2v4 the enemy team https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoSzEk4c1o8&feature=youtu.be , I'm sure that both of the top and mid laners enjoyed the fact that the game has already been decided before they got to do anything to impact the game. Only 6 out of the 10 players in the game determined the outcome of this match :) what a fun game we play.

Now if only i get adc's like that jinx in my flex games more often so my overall Lulu winrate would stop tanking.

ModWulf Helhammer1 votes

so a majority of one team outplayed the majority of the other team, making the teams unbalanced as one side had 3 players go up in power, while the other team had 3 go down. If we say that each player is worth 1 point, being behind is 0, and ahead is 2, and at game start the teams are at 5 pts to 5 pts, what this situation has resulted in 2 pts to 8 pts.

This is a problem why. Why shouldn't the team that outperformed as a team do better than the team that did not?

2Charmnot2Charm4 votes

It would be fine if it didn't decided the game 5 minutes in, which tends to happen a lot.

Heck the only reason jungle get's to decide anything is because they have the freedom to gank lanes since they get their gold and XP from the jungle not a lane. They can feed your lane opponent or feed you, doesn't matter which because they still impacted the game.

Meanwhile solo laners don't have that luxury and must stay in lane to get early gold and xp. They are at the mercy of these junglers and whatever happens in the bot lane because unless they are AurelionSol it's unlikely they will be in any other lane for the first 5 minutes for reasons.

I don't mind the team working together better winning, but i doubt the solo laners feel like a "team" at all when they didn't have to do anything that wins them the game or lose it, all that matters is better jungle/adc/support.

I think everyone needs some kind of ventilation. Some go to the gym, some scream a song and some simply just put their frustration on the internet.

At first when I visited the board it was filled with fun time and strategy discussing. Then after some time that section moved to General Discussion and this Gameplay is left with waah waah waah.

And majority of these whines are circle-jerks. Newcomers who might not be satisfied at the state of the game may not post those rude posts but because of the environment here some of them may just join in when something negative happened to their experience.
